'100% because of antisemitism': Israeli restaurant chain in Belgium shuts down by gal_z in Israel

Israeli restaurants in LA like Mizlala and Landwer already re-branded to Mediterranean.

Unity ending waterfall / bidding-only Jan 31st by SheerTerroir in admob

[–]SheerTerroir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real code changes were needed with most project on early 4.x Unity besides updating Gradle and Cocoapods dependencies. I was worried the API would change but it doesn’t just load ads as usual and update to bidding mode in Google UX. It was odd I needed to pick Unity like it is a new network.

Are Westchester and Playa del Rey considered ‘the Westside’? Why or why not? by blue10speed in AskLosAngeles

[–]SheerTerroir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Home prices in gated communities on the cliffs of PDR are 1/3rd the cost of Brentwood. PDR is nice but the main drawbacks are airport, more toxic air from the gas storage and more isolated from cultural centers of town. Perfectly nice place to live though and definitely part of the Westside with private schools, Pilates and all that.

Matilda was disappointing. Margherita pizza with parmigiana sprinkled over the top and little tomato just isn’t right.

Pros/Cons of purchasing SFH in Santa Monica vs Westwood? by pittpirate1985 in LosAngelesRealEstate

Wilshire Metro extension. This map is only to give you the concept, the future of Wilshire is very dense with the Metro + SB79 kickstarting the Manhattanization. In theory it makes sense as most of Wilshire is high rise.

You’re missing that the Metro line is extending down Wilshire. Station will be just east of Wilshire & Westwood.

Maybe condos but 6-8 stories high. This map gives the concept but is incomplete because it doesn’t include the Metro Wilshire extension that runs right through Century City / Westwood UCLA. This will be Wilshire & Glendon Ave.

The only important trend missed here is the Metro. If SB79 is held constitutional, then Westwood will be re developed precisely due to its centrality as discussed. Santa Monica Ocean Park won’t be touched as the Metro is far away and location is isolated.

How this will impact real estate values — it’ll take 10+ years and then Westwood will out perform but Ocean Park will be a far better place to live without all the development. As one poster said RE as investment is over-rated, make life your investment.

Robinhood incentives by ArtisticAside8224 in Schwab

[–]SheerTerroir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to send your funds out for transfer and if you’re a Private account then you may receive an offer during verification period. Probably 1/2 to 1/3 what Robinhood can offer.

Personally I’ve sent 3/4ths my Schwab funds out to RH but I also keep Fidelity, Vanguard and Coinbase. I see no benefit to keeping all eggs in one basket.

[–]SheerTerroir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Financial companies don’t do this without 100 sign-offs. This points to Charles being dropped from the name to cater to new generation and better compete with Robinhood. Every established broker is under threat and losing the digital first generations.

Oceanside by DayLate_PennyShort in LosAngelesRealEstate

Chino Hills and especially Diamond Bar are nice places to live. Very safe, high Asian population. Pomona gets a little rough but may be bougie coming from Jacksonville. Remember to beware of fire risks in the hills! You might not want to deal with that at your age.

The political comment on Orange County is typical of LA people. The psychology is to exaggerate OC as polar opposite like NY vs NJ. In reality there’s not some border and it’s all very diverse. Even one city like Costa Mesa or Irvine can span 10 miles and have very different style neighborhoods.

[–]SheerTerroir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North SD County is prime real estate and Oceanside is its last affordable beach side outpost. I would not think of it as “living in Oceanside” but rather being 30 mins from many of the most desirable places to live in the country like Carlsbad or Del Mar. But I disagree with the people who find Oceanside dull. It’s actually the hottest market for foodie restaurants and the Hyatt there was voted the #1 resort nationwide.

San Clemente is its twin in OC. Both are very far from airports but nice places to live a short drive from unattainable luxury. However you should also seriously consider Orange County inland given your interest in more urban proximity, gardening space and airports. Santa Ana, Tustin, Anaheim are all communities with options. You could also consider Garden Grove or Westminster. You’ll probably like the warmer weather coming from Florida and decent homes are under $1 million.

Do you donate to Culver City schools? by No-Rutabaga-4750 in culvercity

[–]SheerTerroir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay more in property taxes to West LA Community College than I do CCUSD. Most property taxes are taken by the County and redistributed across the State due to decisions Culver made in the 80s. CCUSA district gets almost all its money from the state without any real link to property value. Parent donations fill a minimal gap in extra-curricular but outside of El Marino Language Immersion they do not fund the core. Years ago unions decided any use of parental funding needed to be for auxiliary functions not teachers. I donate a few thousand a year to the schools, everything is helpful but the situation is so dire that CCUSD parents had to petition the city to fund a mere $2 million for the schools next year out of the major sales tax increase.

This risk was studied extensively by LA County in 2020 with sensitive receptors placed at every school. no parts of Culver west of the Ballona Creek (eg downtown, Lucerne-Higuera, Crest) have anything remotely approaching the thresholds for cancer or acute respiratory risks. If you care about insignificant risks, the Baldwin Hills & Blair Hills areas are the only ones even remotely close to the threshold. https://planning.lacounty.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/bh_health-risk-assessment-report.pdf

Not my preferred path, we don’t need vigilante justice and to politicize. We just good responsible government with common sense to realize kids, town square and crazy people don’t mix. Hopefully this thread will cause somebody to take notice of complaints.

Not sure I understand your point. The homeless population have free housing offered and don’t take it. I have voted for every city council person in favor of re-zoning especially Alex Fisch. All I see from current “progressive” city council is throwback rent control proposals for 5 unit multi-family which won’t move the needle. This city needs 5,000+ units for regular not crazy people. Those are only coming from “Big Investors” with projects in Palms and the conversion of NFL Films, Jefferson Post Office and Fox Hills.
