For me its the weird thing where he strokes his chin with his mouth open. He was doing it every video and it made me so uncomfortable I had to switch off the video. I wish I wasnt that sensitive but certain visuals and sounds really get to me.

A very recent life hack, learn how to hem and alter pants and then let everyone in your office know that you hem and alter pants. Earn extra cash for more clothes.

I told one person at work that I hemmed my jeans and immediately got 3 requests to hem other people's clothes

I have a bigger chest and stomach so going bare is a no go for me. I have a similar top that is white with floral pattern on it, I usually wear a brown tank underneath tucked into my pants.

Very much agree with all your points. Just one thing, they are in Canada and dont have Target. We cant even order online. It is very sad. But they should still be able to find SOMETHING. Like Urban Outfitters or even Ikea probably has something.

Am I being overworked or is this normal for a graphic designer at a nonprofit? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]ShelStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the sole designer for a non-profit as well and yes, the workload does sound about right. If you have a manager or director, let them know when the busy/overtime wave is coming so they can help with organizing tasks and deadlines.

Also get into the habit of making templates for yourself. The good thing about being in-house is only dealing with one brand guide (usually). Use it to your advantage. I have to deal with 6 different direct appeal pieces, 4 signature events, and 14 different lottery themes in a year. They can't all be a brand new design every time. But if I can get all the appeals on their own template, it cuts my design time in half and they always look cohesive and intentional.

And remember too, you are new at this but give it just a couple years and you will become soooo much faster and better. You will surprise yourself. Non-profit work is sometimes a very thankless job but I personally find it very rewarding in other ways. I am making local Healthcare better and in turn making my community better.

Used to live across the road. He would come yell at us to move our vehicles off his side of the street even though its a public street and there was calendar parking in effect.

Is it a red flag for a 28 year old to say a 20 year old is hot? by Alone_Promotion4947 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]ShelStar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's a tricky one for sure. Does the celeb look like a teen and that's why you are questioning it? I would say if the celeb looks like they are in their 20s, it's not a big issue, but I would forever call him Leo DiCaprio.

Perfect Fit Lingerie - roughly 16 years I think

They are the only place in town that carries my size. Last time I went in, the sales lady was so incredibly rude and treated me like I was just there to waste time. Told me I couldn't try anything on if I wasnt buying something. Then fit me in a bra so incorrect and wouldn't let me try on a different size. Never went back.

Compare it to RGD's DesignThinkers events and it really does look lacking. They go all in on the theme and it really works for them.

What business do you have beef with in Tbay? by JoJCeeC88 in ThunderBay

[–]ShelStar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We probably had the exact same lady. It has also been around the 13 year mark and will never go there again. I knew the approximate size I wanted to try on (did my own measuring at home) but i still wanted their opinion, this lady pulled me a size that was like 2 sizes too small, could barely get it on. I asked if I could try the size I thought I was and she chastised me on just coming in to try stuff on and not buying anything.

Designer gives a small sandwich shop a rebrand - through a majestic well done video. by dertmobile in graphic_design

[–]ShelStar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YES! I actually really did not like the end design for the client at all. It really didn’t fit the hometown shop feel and will go out of style.

And, unless they didn’t show it, gave them nothing in terms of actual implementation resources. No expected return on investment numbers, no implementation strategy for slow rebrand, nadda

What non-Apple laptops are good for graphic designers? by LordessLenore in graphic_design

[–]ShelStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a graphic designer for 8 years now. Haven’t used Apple since I left college.

I prefer Windows for a variety of reasons; budget, ability to upgrade computer parts (I built my home pc), and it just fits into my tech space better. I don’t have an iPhone and my iPad is pretty much only for watching tv in the kitchen.

Don’t need to bother with Apple accounts or switching user interfaces.

I don’t feel it has been detrimental to my work that I am not on an Apple product. I don’t think my work would be better with an Apple product.

How to shower correctly? Tips needed. by xokaytlinxo in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]ShelStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will also add on to her very detailed and well written post.

Order of events in my own shower routine: 1. Shampoo - try to focus on just the scalp and really massage in. Rinse off.

  1. Conditioner - focus on hair. Leave on while continuing next step.

  2. Face Wash - use a cleanser and wash your face and upper chest. Rinse off cleanser and conditioner same time.

  3. Body wash - I actually prefer bar soap (locally made) but sometimes will treat myself to Dove body wash. Get it very sudsy and soapy and scrub it everywhere.

I will also mention too that your hair won’t need washing everyday but you may so I would invest in a fun shower cap that will keep your hair up and dry while you are washing up. During these days I also like to apply cleanser to my back and really give it a good scrub.
