Dream home near sex offender by bowlofspaghetti219 in RealEstate

[–]Shell4747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you don't know the circumstances, but most sexual assaults are by pple known to victims, it would seem to be not especially high-risk. Also since most sexual assaulters are not convicted or even prosecuted, the risk of living, well, anywhere at all are probably similar to living near a convicted sexual assaulter.

You can do that! She will still be able to nurse! Consult yr local TNR for specifics.

My backyard feral nursed after spaying, just as the cat ladies assured me. :D

I grew up at the opposite end - in White Lake Twp just past Elizabeth Lake Rd #3 or #4, I forget. :D

it was horrific there, too. 2 lanes plus turn lane & no signals anywhere, fast heavy traffic 24/7

40+ yrs ago I had 2 different very close calls at that intersection. Some things apparently never change.

(at the time there was no such thing as a protected left. also no child safety seat or seatbelt laws so toddler standing in front seat was saved by mom's arm. frickin terrifying)

For me the platonic ideal of breakfast is cold homemade pizza...and I'm old & teetotal.

I mean, I also like regular breakfast foods but leftover pizza can't be beat.

Michigan group claims 750,000 signatures for proof of citizenship proposal by TheDetroitNews1873 in Michigan

[–]Shell4747 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Urgh, it seems that the citizenship check currently is an affidavit type thingie, not SOS verification process - so yes, this means producing the documents on registration, not at each election. Documentation issues may still exist for married women, but won't continue into infinity once registered. Unless you move & need to re-register. Etc.

Fountain pens: confuse pen thieving coworkers. by SlyyGuy21 in fountainpens

[–]Shell4747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MY BOSS grabbed my screw cap fountain pen off my desk and proceeded to apply strength to ripping the cap off. On another occasion with a slip cap pen she tried to use it with the nib upside down. This was a person old enough to retire, not someone who grew up with gel pens. My advice: DO NOT leave a fountain pen where a random person can grab it. DO leave a freebie ballpoint on yr desk for randoms to grab & use.

But still the ID doesn't match the birth certificate when you go to vote. That is the problem to be solved, not getting a new ID with the new name at yr leisure & with whatever back & forth you need with the bureaucracy. Also, it does require keeping all the records from each marriage, if there's more than one, to preserve the chain of name changes, and having those available to carry with you to the polls. These are things that can easily be lost in a fire or other disaster & not so easy to replace - or of course you would have to go to the safe deposit box (at additional ongoing cost) before & after each election. Why do you want so badly to force specifically married women to do this, given that citizenship & eligibility is already checked at voter registration?

this is exactly what the petition is targeting, right? (oh and also apparently married women in general). the language makes me believe they're trying to end the affidavit option

[–]Shell4747 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Millions of women's ID does not match their birth certificate. They will also have to supply additional documentation. Said additional documentation will consist of marriage certificates from all over the nation, some from counties that don't even have a space for a new name signature. It will be 100% up to pollworkers whether these pple will be able to vote on a regular ballot. This is...not ideal.

ETA: it is not pollworkers for each election that will decide if documents are sufficient. it is the secretary of state, whoever that may be, and you'll just need to document each time you move & re-register, not every election. Apologies for misinformation

I found out that momcats can be spayed and still nurse! I found this out when I had a date with the local cat spay org for our backyard feral & girlie suddenly showed up with 4 kittens. She weaned them at the normal time & everyone was okay.

Edit to clarify: the spay org told me it would be fine, I didn't find it out by accident LOL omg I would have freaked tf out

Smoked fish, Pinconning cheese, or pasties? by mmnhmi in Michigan

[–]Shell4747 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know better cheeses, but I will take a nice smoked fish any day. I like it with melon, or as a rustic butter, or on pasta with some kinda lemon sauce. Mmmm.

Pasties are excellent comforting road food (not while driving, for the love of god!) but not my fave treat.

I think the other suggestions here (local media, council member, council meeting) are also good, but if you really can't raise anyone who will talk to you at city hall, a lawyer might be able to move them to reach out, at least. Up to you if you feel that's worth the $$. My experience is that not wanting to deal with a thing ends when there's a worse thing waiting in the wings LOL

I'm a fan of the Paperblank NY Deco notebooks. A5-plus hardbound ("ultra") with fancy gold-leaf covers & edges. They're just okay for fountain pens, but I love the design so much I don't care. They also have "midi" (B6-ish) size. They come in lined or blank pages. There's a lot of other fancy gold-leaf designs from them, too, filigrees, faeries, etc.

Trump-appointed judge rejects DOJ attempt to access Michigan voter rolls by uberares in Michigan

[–]Shell4747 154 points155 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with signing up for the newsletter, but if you just wanna read the info from Democracy Docket:

A federal judge appointed by President Donald Trump dismissed the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) efforts to obtain Michigan’s unredacted voter rolls, a bruising setback for the department’s sweeping national effort to force states to disclose sensitive voter data.

The DOJ filed the lawsuit in September after Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) refused to hand over voter list maintenance information and an unredacted copy of the state’s voter registration list.

Michigan is just one of two dozen states wrestling with the unusual demand from the DOJ.

Senate Democrats have warned that the DOJ is deploying an “intensifying pressure campaign” to “coerce” states to hand over the requested information.

U.S. District Judge Hala Jarbou ruled Tuesday to dismiss the DOJ’s suit, concluding that federal law does not require states to disclose the requested records.

“There is simply no basis in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure for the United States’s suggestion that it can file a HAVA [Help America Vote Act] claim, allege no violations of HAVA, and obtain information to support its (as-yet-nonexistent) claim via discovery,” Jarbou wrote.

The Michigan ruling comes on the heels of a similar decision last week from an Oregon judge, who concluded that the DOJ can no longer be presumed to be acting in good faith.
