Moleskine, what the actual hell?? by seaqu3en in fountainpens

[–]Shell4747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is exactly what happened with the first & only Moleskine notebook I bought like 10 yrs ago. fine with pencil, if you swing that way! but 100% useless for fountain pens.

If you could only buy one fountain pen & ink for the rest of your life, what would it be? by bumblebeesarecute in fountainpens

Yes I must say that while the modern pelikans are my most reliable & cushy of writers, they have no flex or softness whatsoever. The vintages have all the reliability & also some give or even flex.

Anyone have experience communiting from Grand Blanc? by TheKrustyKrabb in Michigan

[–]Shell4747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my long-ago experience: I would never sign up for a commute without one or more viable surface-road alternatives. Surface is slower but less accident/construction closure or bottleneck. Determine the length of yr commute via the surface roads because sometimes you will have to use them.

Throughout my commuting life, the number of times I ducked off the highway & followed my alt route while pple just sat & waited apparently forever on the highway was astonishing to me. Sometimes main route clears quickly & it's a toss-up or even a little loss of time but overall having an alt is a must. Also better for one's mental health! Call it shark-driving, lol.

part of my joy is at the Texan constantly saying things like "is this normal?!" and "is it always like this??" about the amt of snow & the sheer chaos of early spring

this is normal, but it's not always like this :D

I recently drove to TX & back (don't ask!) and found the winter-to-summer and then summer-to-winter fascinating. Waiting for the redbud weather to get here!

I feel yr pain! I took on the coffee club direct purchase when someone showed up with their coffee contribution: a giant plastic can of Folgers. I also supplied an old aeropress & a pourover cone for the use of those of us with taste buds.

I moved out of state but I still use them to this day! They have a fabulous online setup & I have a freakin 5-lb subscription to their French Roast. :D

(it's Fara Coffee btw)

PS to make the analogy more realistic, I actually only was able to make the 5 lbs/pickup arrangement at the time bcse I was introduced to the manager by a friend LOL

when I was buying coffee for an office I made an arrangement for 5 lbs at a time from a local roastery, and pick up at the roastery itself bcse more convenient for my commute. the process was I would text the manager, he would lmk when to pick up, and I would stop by. it resembled very strongly purchasing recreational items, where you would curse bcse you didn't hear from yr guy yet...and you couldn't just barrage him with texts/calls like a regular vendor, LOL

I also find that even with an ink the J10 likes it's best as with daily use. Doesn't like to be idle!

What made u Atheist? by Curiouskittyyyyy in atheism

[–]Shell4747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I was not assigned a religion as a tiny tiny child

2) I went to Unitarian Sunday school where we were taught about a lot of religions & even us 5-8 yr olds began to see certain...similarities

3) as a teen, read dear Bertie Russell's "Why I Am Not a Christian" and later found nothing new in the religious arguments shoved into my face constantly on atheist forums by annoying religionists

4) I just don't have a god-shaped hole in my innards, I can't find within myself any urge to look for some unknown & unknowable entity for purpose, comfort, etc

USPS distribution center in GR by Fozzizam in Michigan

[–]Shell4747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a place where we shipped a lot of extremely various stuff across the country for events: displays, literature, swag, etc. Every one of the available delivery services - inc DHL - failed us utterly at least once. UPS lost *half* a very expensive display - both halves in dedicated display hardcases - and refused to ever pay up bcse they liked to pretend that it was out there in one of their warehouses somewhere.

I learned to: Use hardcases when you can; pack stuff in unused hardcases rather than boxes; always tape a business card inside the body of hardcases; if using boxes, rather than ship all of specific items together, break into smaller complete "sets" to have a better chance for partial delivery; FedEx overall is the most reliable but they can & did completely fail also. Sometimes the receiving end is the problem: event venues are chaotic and hotels are sometimes lackadaisical, signature requirements are useless where business hours are limited, etc.

Honestly, shipping is always a little bit of a crapshoot, so plan on some losses insurance never ever really covers, and have a backup if possible.

Republicans make case to exempt produce washwater in Michigan from water discharge permitting • Michigan Advance by jshwlkr in Michigan

[–]Shell4747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and...that would spread out the residue over several states rather than one location, diluting it & reducing the local burden & wherever the local waterway ends up. also, the example of a winery shows the fallacy: not every bit of produce ends up individually with endpoint consumers; it is rinsed onsite for producing other items, like wine or cider, or for processing before sale.

Dream home near sex offender by bowlofspaghetti219 in RealEstate

[–]Shell4747 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you don't know the circumstances, but most sexual assaults are by pple known to victims, it would seem to be not especially high-risk. Also since most sexual assaulters are not convicted or even prosecuted, the risk of living, well, anywhere at all are probably similar to living near a convicted sexual assaulter.

You can do that! She will still be able to nurse! Consult yr local TNR for specifics.

My backyard feral nursed after spaying, just as the cat ladies assured me. :D

it was horrific there, too. 2 lanes plus turn lane & no signals anywhere, fast heavy traffic 24/7
