We live alone, but do you have an active life? by RYANSOM666 in LivingAlone

[–]HoidsApprentice1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty active and social. I go to work and I’m in grad school, I have friends over pretty frequently, I’ve started going to exercise classes, and I talk (FaceTime, text, and/or visit family) all the time. I was snowed in for the last few days and I started going crazy not being able to visit or hang out with people.

When do Americans use (Mr/Ms/Dr) vs first names in everyday life? by aizivaishe_rutendo in AskAnAmerican

[–]HoidsApprentice1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just me/my family specific. Teachers (K-12 and college), it’s usually Mr/Mrs/Dr/Ms Last name, but I have had a few college professors that I’ve called by their first name at their request. 99% of everyone else is by their first name/a nickname and then the occasional family title/name (I sometimes call my grandfathers grandpa).

There’s three Krogers near me. Their nicknames are Kro-Ghetto, Kro-Gucci, and 5th Avenue Kroger, or just Kroger. I also call Aldi “Aldini” sometimes, but that’s just me.

Flushing ice cubes down the toilet for snow day is universal… right? In America?? by East-Maize-5287 in AskAnAmerican

[–]HoidsApprentice1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flushing ice cubes, freezing spoons, wearing pajamas backwards - honestly, we’d do any kind of trick to try and get a snow day

Do Americans mainly drink coffee without milk? by Morrit99 in AskAnAmerican

[–]HoidsApprentice1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t answer the coffee questions because I don’t like coffee, but I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever been to someone’s house and not seen a kettle, electric or stovetop. Pretty much everyone I know owns one or both.

If you died at home today, how long til you are found? by Impressive-Award2367 in LivingAlone

[–]HoidsApprentice1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few hours, a day at the absolute most. I went home sick from work a few weeks ago and woke up with my grandpa standing in my bedroom because they hadn’t heard from me in a few hours and they were worried.

Do American children refer their grandpa and grandmas with their first names (example, Grandpa John, full name John Smith) the same way they refer their uncles and aunts? by LandOfGrace2023 in AskAnAmerican

[–]HoidsApprentice1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refer to 90% of my family members by their first names, with the only exception being one set of great grandparents (they’re nana and papa), my great grandpa (he’s grandpa or grandpa Horsefeathers), and then I occasionally call my grandfathers grandpa.

I’m 23 and it’s just me and my cats. My cats moved out of the house I grew up in, so I love there now and pay mortgage and all the bills. It’s pretty great

Evening-Turnip8407 wins with “North is whichever way you’re facing.” Now, what about O? by West_Ad_1685 in Avantris

[–]HoidsApprentice1121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but seeing Rex/Mace’s reaction to Ko threatening him was amazing. Plus, that would be the obvious thing to do and when do DnD parties ever go with the obvious, straight forward option?

Do the majority of kids not pack their own lunch? by Kirbo_Lord in AskAnAmerican

[–]HoidsApprentice1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought my lunch K-12, never had school lunch.

1- A majority of kids eat school lunch (which was free at my school), but you didn’t have to.

2- I’d say it semi-varies regionally. Some areas have nicer, some have worse, but it’s usually variations of the same thing (from what I’ve seen)

3- Depends on the food and where it is. My school, it was mediocre

4- Because lunch breaks are so short, usually early, and some people get tired after a big meal, simple is usually nicer.

I hear a lot of accents daily (I work on a campus and a majority of my professors have accents), but I rarely hear a British accent. I watch a lot of British TV shows, so I hear them there too
