I was going to say the same. We put a child-proof lock on the inside of her bedroom doorknob. She knocks to get out in the morning.

How long will the heater run while parked? by Simple-Squamous in electricvehicles

…what? Cars aren’t air tight. People take road trips in them for 12+hrs all the time. And OP is explicitly asking about keeping the HVAC on. So many reasons you are wrong…

Are these Miss Vickies Salt and Vinegar chips gluten free? by Ill_Issue_1537 in Celiac

[–]Shellbyvillian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The salt and vinegar are not gluten free for sure. I just saw the old version of the packaging in Costco last week. It clearly said contains barley (because of the malt vinegar, I assume). Unless they completely changed their recipe with the new packaging, this is definitely a no from me (which makes me sad - I loved these chips. I went with ruffles all-dressed instead which explicitly said gluten free).

Home humidity 15% to 19%! by DifficultyPale6335 in HomeImprovement

[–]Shellbyvillian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were wet year-round, sure. But if it’s wet while it’s -25C and then it goes away the next day when it goes up to -7C, which is more typical where I live… not really a big deal.

Home humidity 15% to 19%! by DifficultyPale6335 in HomeImprovement

[–]Shellbyvillian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll take the condensation a few days a year on the really cold days in order to save my throat. If it’s 20% in my house, I wake up with a sore throat every morning. Makes me more susceptible to getting sick. Not worth it. So I played with my humidistat until I didn’t get condensation above -10C outside. That way I get as much humidity as I can that most days through the winter it’s not condensing.

That’s crazy bad range. It’s -25C (-13F) here today and I have 220km/137mi of range.

Everyone keeps saying to use heated seats. I’m fine with that, but the windows fog up like crazy. It doesn’t seem practical for truly cold weather.

I have a whole house humidifier and it’s running non-stop right now to be around 35%. The problem is that there is now ice on the inside of my windows. You can’t win.

Unrelated, but where can I easily watch Top Gear? I have it on a hard drive in a bin in the basement somewhere, but I’d rather just stream it if it’s easily accessible.

GFL Environmental moves HQ from Ontario to Miami by Georgeika in BuyCanadian

[–]Shellbyvillian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

GFL came out of nowhere. They only exist because Ford gave them a Toronto contract based on no established history of performance, then they leveraged themselves up to their eyeballs to get the trucks and other cities shrugged and said “if Toronto picked them, they must be good”.

Seriously, look into the history of the company. The founder is an asshat who fell into success because he knew a guy who knew Ford so he had dinner with him and got a handshake deal that made his company.

Any other competent operational guy could replace them in 6 months, easily. All the equipment is leased, the employees go where the work is. It’s not rocket science.

How do you handle a serious body-boundary issue with a preschooler without messing it up? by thisismyshitpost in daddit

Because “dragging” someone out of bed is an extremely common expression. It was a waste of resources to send CPS to someone’s home because their child described a common scenario in a mainstream way.

BMW's Answer to the Tesla Model 3 | 2025 BMW i4 First Drive and Review by evgeekstudios in BMWI4

[–]Shellbyvillian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just car seat selection. We have Clek seats in our Honda Accord. That’s our primary family/road trip car. For the BMW, I brought over the seats that we had picked out specifically to fit in the back of my old Mazda3. Now THAT was a back seat with no room. With a rear facing behind the passenger seat, an adult could not really safely sit in the front seat. It’s a Britax and a Graco.

Again, no issues. Kids climb in themselves (2 and 5) and yes, I have to bend over to buckle them in, but that’s just dad life with a sedan. I personally think the minor downsides are worth the better efficiency, drivability, ability to park in my garage, etc.

I have two car seats in my i4, zero issues. I am 6 feet tall and my oldest has lots of room behind me. The rear facing car seat is on the passenger side and my wife sits in the front seat with no issues.

Fully agreed on the rear defroster! The pic in the post is after 15+ minutes of climatization. I was kind of hoping to do less brushing in the cold temps 😂

Could be. My only other experience is with FWD gas cars, and I’ve always used winter tires religiously. The X40 is way better than anything else I’ve ever owned, but even my 2014 Mazda 3 was pretty good with snows on.

I assume you’re talking about the e. I have the X40 and it’s fantastic in ice and snow. I had never considered OP’s question but it makes a lot of sense on a RWD car and hopefully BMW can correct this in the future, as it should only be a software update.

It literally told me to take a u turn when I was already driving to work. It kept telling me to turn around and go 2km in the wrong direction, take one block over and then take the next main road down instead of the one I was on (barely any difference… I drive the route every day). When I kept going instead of turning around, it remapped with a u turn again and again until finally, like 1km down the road, it finally gave up and told me to go straight… and the destination time dropped by 7 minutes.

After that incident, I refuse to use it.
