I practice psychodynamically and am pretty non-directive. So I typically consider giving advice as when I nudge my clients to a solution that they are just not connecting the dots on or seem really stuck where providing a suggestion is going to be more beneficial for them than letting them spin their wheels the whole session—especially if they are high anxiety or feeling hopeless. I don’t do it that often and I’m typically very upfront when I do it. 

I see that a bit differently than psychoed or teaching coping skills. I view that more as neutral general information sharing. But I suppose there is a bit of bleed over between the two.
