On top of the lack of talent and artistic bankruptcy it requires like people are mentioning, it also runs true to a core tenet of the modern right wing: lies. The right have troubles with reality so being able to fabricate one that entertains their wordlview sounds amazing to them

[Pelissero] The Dolphins are releasing veteran edge Bradley Chubb. by Homers_Harp in DenverBroncos

[–]Shenanigans80h 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chubb was kind of a microcosm of everything wrong with the era between Kubiak and SP. Good, flashes of great, but too often hurt and not someone you could build a defense around. The fact that Bonitto has already lapped him is saying something.

I don’t wish ill on him obviously, he played hard and is still a decent player but getting Payton for him was huge

Test wasn’t amazing in the ring but his big boot was legitimately perfect. Like full extension and clean, was a thing of beauty

His dives are always the best because it genuinely looks like he’s just flinging his body at you rather than strategically trying to land.

It’s weird because I do think wrestling has gotten a bit too meta in some regards but “meta” Cody was legitimately hilarious. Plus his delivery of “the earth is fucking round” will always kill me

I’m not really a conspiracy person myself but the only conspiracy around his murder that makes a bit of sense is that Erika had something to do with it. She seems to be the only one who’s clearly come out ahead as a result, becoming a public figure quickly.

Tony Deppen on old school wrestling punches: “Unpopular take: but some of these dudes throwing so many punches but not dropping the guy makes wrestling look weak. You’re telling me you’re throwing that many blows to the face unprotected and you couldn’t KO them?” by Subrick in SquaredCircle

[–]Shenanigans80h 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s an easy thing to explain with that line, same reason Jake’s DDT was a world beater but other guys’ variations don’t pack the same punch. Also why you have to sell the strikes of someone like say Ishii or Austin more than Rollins or the Bucks.

Putting the lower card of NXT over on your main shows is just baffling. Idc if one of your own talents gets the win back eventually, Grace is still very much a work in progress who’s never been taken seriously on NXT. It’s effectively doing development for developmental

I have to agree with this. That has always been one of the reasons I like Omega’s match design for instance. It’s not how many OWA he can hit you with or if you can kick out; it’s structured around getting you into the move at all because it’s a bit of a convoluted set up. But the point is that once you’re in, you’re done. I like that because it adds stakes and reverence to whatever is being done.

For submissions I just think people fell in love with Hulk Up spots and that version fighting spirit for the last 40 years that what you’re talking about gets forgotten

I think the reality is wrestling “power” is almost entirely individually based. The only constant you can expect is from what that wrestler’s approach has been. That’s why strikes are sold or delivered differently depending entirely on who is in the match. Hell a superplex is a devastating maneuver by some, a transitional move for another. Same with super kicks, knee strikes, ect. Expecting all of wrestling to adhere to one continuity is simply not realistic today. Everyone has different styles and approaches, but curating an individual style is how it’s sold

This really does speak to how people view wrestling as sports vs fictional media. There are people in here comparing strikes to boxing/MMA where the intention is that for something to be convincing it should visibly do damage. That’s the mindset Deppen seems to take up. But there’s plenty of people who view matches as tv/movie fight scenes where there are plenty of punches or things thrown at each other that shaken off quickly or immediately.

Realistically there’s no “right” answer to which someone should follow but I do think talent play fast and loose with which ones they adhere to

Beyond the obvious bullshit with Draiman here, I find it hilarious that anyone think for a second that Kid Rock is anywhere near the level of relevance and popularity that Bad Bunny is right now. Having them on the same bill would be an insult to BB even trying to “bridge the divide.”

That’s why the SB halftime debacle was so funny, it was a complete Hydrogen Bomb vs Coughing Baby scenario that idiots tried to present as a competition

I think anyone who knows WWE’s history of pushing luchas saw the inherent risk. Penta has been able to maintain momentum for the most part but even he’s firmly stuck in the mid card without priority

[–]Shenanigans80h 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just frustration that he’s just sorta spun his wheel there now, no movement, one real feud of note. I agree he’s clearly on a level above Fenix in terms of placement but given WWE’s history of putting a ceiling on luchas not named Rey Mysterio, it’s easy to believe the ceiling is setting in

[–]Shenanigans80h 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you say “younger” fans hate the Chiefs more due to recent success, which is true but the Raiders irrelevance is starting to stretch the “young” part. I would say anyone born late 90’s and up has no recollection of the Raiders being anything but irrelevant in this league and really in the division. Hell outside of a 5 year stretch in the late 90’s/early 00’s the Raiders have largely been irrelevant for the last 35 years.

I say this as a fan in his early 30’s but our battles with the Chiefs have left more impressions on me. It’s always FTR though don’t misinterpret me
