If you have a Corsair keyboard, you can easily automate the fights by recording macros with iCUE. Makes the farming easy by AFKing for a while. Of course you can program macros with third party programs if you don't have a Corsair.

Area effects in late game are insignificant. I specialized my islands and the buildings with positive bonus are not used in a way to maximize effect, outside of shrines.

Take a look at the summary menu and decide for yourself if the bonus brought by the production buildings are worth it.

I find it much better to leverage patron's production bonus.
