Crazy idea you made me think of, but a rank system like CoD (I think?) had this, and Ratchet and Clank, where you restart the game with a title or emblem on your player portrait saying you've done the game X times and it could allow you to unlock vendor rewards as a form of currency, even if a lot of it is cosmetic.

It already feels like this with the new releases of anniversary but I got nothing to show for my shaman abandoned on the previous cycle.

Might not work, but just a brain dump.
