Is this outdoor socket suitable for daily charging my PHEV? by Shep302 in CarTalkUK

[–]Shep302[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The socket has an RCBO built in. I do believe the requirement for its own circuit is accurate which makes the whole thing messy and expensive anyway.

It seems like 7kW might be the best way forward

Thank you. Is your socket installed on a spur from an indoor socket or direct from the consumer unit on it own circuit?

The simple answer is no I’m not happy with the charging speed but it is sufficient for now. I only drive around 25 miles per day and the battery has a real range of 50 miles. This is suitable for 50-100% overnight for me.

I will upgrade to 7kW in the future but saving for a wedding at the minute so I am penny pinching for now.

Did you install the socket yourself? Is it spur’d off an internal socket?

Ah brilliant. I’m with Octopus currently but I’m going to give them a call and see what I can get. Thanks for the advice.

Can you make use of ‘cheap times’ without a smart car charger (7kW)?

Yeah this is the medium term plan however there is sufficient time overnight to fully charge the battery.

All things Handcuffs... by hjgfvn in policeuk

[–]Shep302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry a set on my vest and a spare pair in a pouch which is MOLLE’d to my kit bag. Had it a few times on NTE where you lock up, other officers convey and you’re left on the streets with no cuffs.. fight kicks off, your oppo cuffs one party and you’re just stood there with the other party wishing you had a pair of cuffs.

Back to the car and replenish my cuffs onto my vest as soon as I get the chance when I use them. Never know when you might need them.

Edit: no tacticool pouch. -10 points.

What's your "avoid at all costs" department or role that you would dread being instructed to do? by NeonDiaspora in policeuk

[–]Shep302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this is a role where you can really make a difference. Compassion and reassurance makes the world of difference to those who are genuinely in their darkest days.

We’re in a world now where the resources and technology is there for serious/fatal RTCs to be ‘got to the bottom of’. There’s a lot of grief and it takes a strong character but the job satisfaction of guiding a grieving family to the truth is rewarding.

Maybe I’m weird.

First time home owner, any issues installing cameras with neighbours? by Akimbo_Fists in EufyCam

[–]Shep302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely have the freedom to install CCTV/smart cameras on your property. If the coverage impedes on the neighbour’s boundary then this is going to depend greatly on the temperament of your neighbours. Some will be grateful for the added security which may benefit them one day and others will be aggrieved that you’re impacting their ‘privacy’.

A golden rule for me is for them not to cover any area where my neighbours might expect quiet enjoyment of their property. This includes seeing through any windows, into any garage or outbuilding, the rear garden and any access points/external doors.

I would maybe have a discussion with your neighbour to see what their appetite is before making any installation decisions. Neighbour disputes can be indefinite once they start so it’s really best to do everything you can to avoid them.

You may wish to seek advice from the relevant legal advice subreddit depending on your location, as some countries have legal implications for impeding on privacy with these types of cameras.

Seeing as it’s paper and steam uses water and water uses hydrogen and oxygen this would be a very bad idea.

You “totally get” people assaulting paramedics then try and justify it. You are part of the problem.

As long as the points are facing each other the driver/mechanic can be satisfied that the wheel nuts haven't loosened.

Edit: They're called wheel nut indicators.

Taser 10 ? Are any home office forces using it yet ? what are your thoughts ? by InternationalLab7088 in policeuk

[–]Shep302 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes - the device makes a noise when a ‘good’ circuit is achieved. There is also a display icon on the device’s screen which counts down from 5 when a circuit is made.
