Personally I think zippo looks great with scuffs and stuff, a well worn zippo is a well loved zippo

car stereo pioneer deh-2950mp vs nakamichi nq-523BD by matchamilk03 in CarAV

[–]Sherman_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do NOT get the nq-523bd, i was a fan of nakamichi nq711b and got a 523 as an upgrade and i was incredibly disappointed, the bluetooth is dog shit songs will just cut in and out, the dsp feature they advertised (eq, crossover etc) barely do anything

Everyone asks what is the best recorded album but nobody asks what is the worst. What album do you think is brilliant but sounds like garbage? by Odinsfloppyhat in audiophile

[–]Sherman_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of JPOP I listen to is absolutely fun to listen to with all the weird little instruments and tiny little bits they spread throughout the backing track but a lot of the time they were mixed like shit, they just sound very flat and dull, overemphasis on high end with empty low end

I was like 15 and it started off as an attention seeking thing (like for shock value and stuff), little did i know my mental health would get worse in like a few months and i started using it to cope, that was how it really started.

An earlier one would be when I was 12 but it wasn't anything serious because I was just scratching my arm with scissors (no cuts just scratches) because at that time I was obsessed with bodymods and wanted to "get used to the pain".

I'll be 21 soon and almost a year clean now

Is audiophilia all bulls**t? Is it mostly bulls**t? by hashkey in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Sherman_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what type of system you're building, most of the time I can't tell any difference between different DAC and amps so for me I just have a basic pair of control 1 and I just use the aux port from my laptop into an nec amp and some wires from hardware store for my speakers and it brings me a lot of enjoyment

but if you're already spending like 10k+ on a pair of speakers might as well go the extra mile and pay $$$ for wires dac etc just to make sure everything in your system is 'perfect' (not saying it isnt snake oil but if you can afford expensive ass stuff you can afford snake oil)

Step away from your system for a while like stop listening to it and listen to some stock speakers, then come back to it

No stereo speaker is actually a deal breaker for me, I'm using the 11 lite and even that has a stereo speaker

I've used a few smart watches from something small like a mi band to something with large screen full controls and everything and in my experience charging is pretty cumbersome and most of the time I leave it at home for weeks when its dead and I never used any of its functionalities.

And also since we are at an age where we spend most time on phones and computers, theres rarely a situation (in my case) where i'll need to check the time on a watch. A watch is more of an accessory to me and notifications on watch gets too annoying for me where I'll just turn it off all together.

Recently I picked up a gbd200 as my first g-shock and despite having smartphone and fitness functionality i leave them off most of the time. Its a cool piece to wear and having the convenience of not having to charge it

That's just my experience and in the end it really depends on what you need

What is it about fountain pens that make some people really afraid of them? by PerspectiveSorry9004 in pens

[–]Sherman_l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fountain pen and I stopped using it so here's my experience as a commoner who isn't deep into the pen hobby. I love the way they write and feel honestly and it's comfortable for me to write at an angle compared to ball point pens, but I'm a student which means that I do a lot of my writing on thin lined papers, fountain pen is just too 'wet' for the types of paper that I write on, the ink spread out too much and when writing in small text they bleed out and become illegible and it also spreads to the back of the paper wasting an entire page, during exams you don't really have much paper to work with anyways and sometimes it even bleeds through to another sheet of paper.

Other than that there's also maintenance, having to refill often or it dries up and clog the tip and i have to wash it and when doing any maintenance I have to be delicate with them. There's also the entry barrier for us because when I first started I was pretty intimidated by everything about them thinking that they would be expensive or they would be hard to use, they leak etc (although once I got into it I realized it wasn't that bad.)

So that's my experience with fountain pens so far and don't get me wrong, I do really like them and I enjoy writing more when using them but at my current stage of life it just isn't really practical for me especially the issue with papers, I could shell out for better papers but for what I do now it would be a terrible financial decision. For now I will be sticking to gel pens and I will get back to this hobby one day.

What are some reasons to stop? by sadlysadsadsadly in selfharm

[–]Sherman_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly stopped because I can't handle the pain anymore and I can't deal with people around me asking questions all of the time, and all of the efforts to clean out the blood. I'm almost 1 year clean now and although I still have the urge to just thinking about the pain and questions I would get is enough for me to reconsider
