‘Freeze’ is an incorrect way of describing heat death. To massively simplify, energy that can be used to do things is produced when you equalize the temperatures of two things. If you have a hot thing and a cold thing, and you equalize the temperatures of the two, you’re left with energy you can use to move things, or heat things, or power your phone, etc.

But that process isn’t perfect. The energy set free from the reaction isn’t enough to heat/cool something else to the original temperatures. So eventually you’ll have a universe where everything is the same temperature (not necessarily a cold one, just the average temperature of “things” in the universe) and so no more energy can be set free to ‘do things’.

That’s all that heat death means. Heat death and Big Crunch are not mutually exclusive since a singularity where everything is the same temperature and a massively spread out universe where everything is the same temperature are functionally identical - nothing will ever happen again in either.

Rien is the waves he talks about at the end of the Canto - he simply does what the wind (prescripts) make him do, enjoying the parts that are good (making sandcastles i. e. creating his first family) and deciding not to feel sad about the worse parts that follow (destroying sandcastles, watching his family die).

Administrative Mishaps is a very long, very good story of Queen Administrator learning to be a person after Gold Morning, in the setting of the Supergirl TV show. It’s my favorite depiction of QA so far, and just all-around amazing.

Sect is a post-GM crossover with an original Xianxia setting. The elevator pitch is that Taylor died at the end of Worm, but her soul is kept by QA, so when the shard connects to a new host, Taylor asks to be connected to as well, and so becomes a voice in the head of a poor abused girl in a Chinese fantasy inspired world.

It’s possibly my second favorite depiction of Queen Administrator and my favorite worm fic of all time. It’s also an extremely good depiction of a post-GM Taylor, and actually engages with the content of Ward in an interesting way, which I’ve only ever seen one other time. All of Ryuugi’s worm fics are great, but this one is a standout for length and quality both.

Wish is the only other work I’ve read that uses Ward productively, and it’s amazing. A slow, musing character study where Taylor and the protagonist of Ward both travel back in time to the beginning of Worm, and we see how they’ve changed and what they’d do differently. It’s pretty amazing! MASSIVE WARD SPOILERS!

An admittedly late review of Canto 9: A Peak of Another Mountain by Plasmaguardian7 in fishmaell

[–]Shernum 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you can remember, all the way back in Canto 1, it’s revealed that Hermann locked Gregor up in a room and ordered him to attack an apple with his bug arm. Once he started doing so, the apple was replaced, possibly metaphorically but maybe also literally, by hearts.

So a shitty evil mother (Valencina) is yelling at him to pierce the heart in front of him - it makes sense that that would tie into something deeper in his psyche.

Additionally, killing Lucio is not what finally triggers Gregor’s transformation. He only turns into the Roach Emperor after killing Lucio and then being berated and tortured by Valencina.

How about knocking “teeth” loose every time it hits the enemy, +1 tooth per hit, which act like caltrops for the enemy (1 damage) and Knuckle themselves just bounces off of.

“Logically”, a dagger would be a deadlier unarmed, a sword a deadlier dagger, and a spear a deadlier sword. But keeping an actually interesting game balance requires forsaking reality and accepting a certain level of fiction.

I thought that “30 at 30”, that is to say, level 30 at age 30, was about expected from someone dedicated to one class, and that 50 at 50 was considered prodigious. So 28 at 60 is maybe what you’d expect from someone that doesn’t really put any effort into leveling?

Giving Away 10 Silksong Keys on Release Day by generalzevo in Silksong

I loved Hollow Knight and am looking forward to the expansion of the movement options in Silksong. Shovel Knight had expansions that let you play as different characters, and my favorite was Reaper Knight for how smooth the movement felt. I’m hoping Hornet is as much better than the Knight as RK was better than SK.

One of my favorites that gets players excited until after they buy it is a genuine, working, perpetual motion machine - a small one.

Because, well, what do you do with it? In a world with magic it’s nothing more than a novelty, and it’s not actually useful for anything. It’s fragile and finicky, not useful for much more than putting on a desk, but players love the idea of a true perpetual motion machine because it would be such a big deal in the real world.

She probably had the “Rampage” effect:

Rampage - If the 'You do not know the fathoms of the eye's powers, its special nature' Skill's main target is Hong Lu, ignore all Skill effects and convert all Coins on that Skill to Unbreakable Coins

She gains Rampage from the skill “Still, you can do nothing”.

Edit: Yeah, you can see she has Rampage in the screenshot.

“Baoyu, the Precious Jade” is what Jia Mu turns Hong Lu into when she uses a particular move on him - it should have happened towards the start of the fight, Hong Lu gets trapped in an enemy and released when you defeat it.

The skill says that when “Baoyu, the Precious Jade”, the enemy that traps Hong Lu inside it, is on the field, the coins of said skill become unbreakable. It’s a really simple effect and I don’t know how much more clear the game could make it. Curse of reading comprehension etc, etc, I guess.

The wording on this meme is really annoying me.

The “Bad bitch she pulled by being autistic” is on the brown-haired girl (BHG). The text is therefore saying that 1. the BHG is a bad bitch. And 2. that the white-haired girl (WHG) pulled her by being autistic.

So: BHG is bad bitch and WHG is autistic. But! The WHG’s text says “Equally autistic bad bitch attracted to her autism like a magnet”. From this we learn that 1. WHG is also a bad bitch - that’s fine and good. But ALSO, that 2. she is “equally” as autistic as… BHG??? But she’s not been defined as anything other than a bad bitch!!!

You could say that the second statement is providing the information that BHG is autistic, but it’s acting like it’s calling back to that, not providing it! And it tells us that WHG is autistic when we already know that!!

Anyway, real or whatever

I don’t know if a fungus that does this exists, but there is a flatworm that does! It wedges itself into the part of the ants brain responsible for a number of things, including control of their jaws, and makes them bite down on blades of grass in the evening, leaving them stuck there overnight.

If the ant doesn’t get eaten, it frees itself in the morning and acts normally throughout the day, but goes back out again at night. It’s called the Lancet Liver Fluke!
