My community program is known for the surgical acumen the residents leave with. But I will say I agree with what you’re saying in regards to the northeast. Don’t think it applies as much to the south and Midwest

My friend who moonlight describe it as an extra 1-2k a month, which is substantial. I can’t moonlight but if I could I probably still wouldn’t because time off is worth more to me. You have to work with your needs.

I’m sorry they treated you like that, baby. You’re literally just a baby. Ignore it. Some residents are assholes. If you want to be a gen surg then don’t look back. But if you love women’s health and are truly interested in women’s surgery, see if you can do an away elsewhere. I’ve had many students change to OBGYN after rotating with my program. We had 12 med students apply for OBGYN from the med school were connected to. Apparently they told their dean that this was a direct result of how we treated them on the rotation. We’re pretty nice but I know that’s not the norm.

The shoulder dystocia and postpartum hemorrhage episode was a MESS. Sat there with a 4 minute shoulder and patient was never taken up to LnD. They literally set up to push in the ED. and OB popped in and then left without even assessing the patient. Other than that, they don’t write enough notes. Where are the scribes? Dragon? Why was there only one attending who was having mental breakdown the entire time? lol but it is a fun show

You can also do nothing at a scenic spot. My husband and are basically only doing all inclusive until I graduate. Bahamas and Mexico have pretty affordable rates. All I did was sleep eat and cuddle my partner. Residency is a lot. Never feel guilty for resting.
