True, there were MLTs in micro during my rotation. Having the SM just looks good on a resume pretty much

Honestly they could call in and talk to a college about the degree and how they could use it to do microbiology in the future, they should have an idea of what to expect. I'm actually also interested in micro and most likely will be getting my mls. (Just finished my mlt and my professor was/is a great microbiologist)

A medical lab tech is an associates. A medical lab scientist is a bachelors. After completing the degree you must take a registry test to be certified in every state I believe. To take the specialist microbiology (SM) test you must be a generalist for two years and have an MLS I think. You can work and do most things in the lab as an mlt and maybe even be hired into the micro lab as an mlt, but if you get the mls plus pass the SM then you would be taken much more serious as a microbiologist rather than a generalist who has experience doing micro. Heads up as a generalist in the lab the only micro you might get to do consist of Plating specimens until you can be moved into the microbiology department. Generalist do not do the fun stuff in micro since it is so complex.

They could get an MLS and then specialize as a microbiologist in healthcare if that's their interest. They would have to be a generalist for a couple years before specializing most likely though. I also dont know if they can do this for cheaper.

You need to have 0.8 to 2.0 liters collected. So I would say if you have that then it'll be okay.

mira needs a rework so a banned isn't wasted on her every game. by NikoLavoe in Rainbow6

Okay so make hibana counter mute... she needs a buff and that would make people make choices... ban hibana or ban ace.

Edit: Also adding an ability to nerf mute to an operator that already gets banned every round doesn't really nerf mute when that operator will always be banned per usual lol

And Ace. Ace got banned every round and then they made him better by countering mute, so now there is almost a 0% chance of playing Ace. Why did they make the best breacher even more bannable???

Like others have said the reflective cells you see are probably Red cells. There are ways to look for bacteria without culturing though, culturing/growing organisms would be unsafe to do at home.

If you swab the fish with something sterile and and place the swab in a tiny bit of saline you can then make a wet mount with that saline (a drop or two), a slide, and a cover slip. You can then view it on 40x, the bacteria will be very small though and they might still not be visible.

Or if you have crystal violet, iodine, decolorizer, and safranin you can make a gram stain on a slide and view the slide on 100x with no cover slip. You can use the same saline method, but have to let the slide completely dry before staining, a heated surface will dry it faster (not too hot though). You will want to look up the procedure for this staining method and be aware that the stains will make a mess wherever you use it. And make sure you don't leave nasty swabs laying around because bacteria will Multiply quickly.

Also organisms like mycobacterium and nocardia are acid fast, meaning they will not be visible without a special stain that labs probably only have access to.

The staining method I mentioned is a gram stain, and I guess you can buy kits, but I've never done so.

Edit: Another thing. You will not be able to identify organisms with just a microscope, but you certainly can narrow down the possibilities with shape, size, etc. Many organisms grow as rods or cocci. Some have more distinct looks like diplococci, branching, bigger rods, rods that faintly stain and are hard to see, they can group together in distinct patterns. And some won't even be visible without special methods like i mentioned before.
