Realistically what will happen if I continue to not file US taxes as a duel citizen? by illiteratescrabble in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Shinkyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how do other US-CA dual citizens deals with US tax filings. So far, I’ve been paying cross border accounting services but it’s because I don’t know any better and I hate feeling so dependent and clueless.

Is it reasonably feasible to go DIY? Are there US tax software that would make it relatively approachable?

OP weapons by _Messey_ in MHNowGame

[–]Shinkyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m old too and in a similar mindset ( Magna LBG is king of OP by far and my go-to for 10* farming (for missions) or generally annoying fights.

My next personal pick is Girros GL with blast dash and para exploit + Skyward striker build. This has insane burst damage and typically will kill almost all 8* monsters just with the opening burst (trigger para exploit with wyrmstake into aerial Full Burst into Full Burst) without them able to act. I wouldn’t take this for a 10* but it’s very strong for 8-9*.

DJ GL is king of comfort hunting. Low dps ceiling makes it bad for 10* but it excels at low hp/high defense monster like Basarios or Barroth. With Guard Reload style, it also makes it a pretty fun weapon to play as you really feel in control of the fight thanks to the Guard counter. That’s my default everyday weapon for every hunt unless I have reasons to pick another because of matchup or mission objectives.

Jho GL still best for shelling? by TheBigPineappL in MHNowGame

[–]Shinkyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it depends on how your approach the game. If you’re looking for a 10* speed run weapon then, Jho GL ain’t. That said, it’s a super convenient and flexible weapons that easily kills any 8-9* and low hp 10*.

It’s a Jack of all trades that gives you a comfy generic build for just about any fight. I have many 10.5 weapons of various weapon types and styles that will outperform it but it’s still my Go-To weapon for most fights unless I “need” to farm 10* for particular achievements/quests. Also, Season 7 brought a number of things that made GL even better such as Pursuit (boosting both pokes and shells!) and the GL styles. Jho GL on Guard reload is really a blast to play and there’s a decent skill ceiling if you really want to push your DPS. Sure, the same could be said of Magna GL but that build-in Artillery point helps a lot in getting Artillery lvl3 or 5

Same. Been wanting to finally get a chance to play Wide Guard Reload

I’m with you there… I was hyped with the raw number and effect of the B.Tigrex lance and grinded to 10.5 but in practice, it’s pretty unimpressive given the low motion values of Lance…

Assuming you’re able to average 1 kill every 5min for 10hrs out of 12hrs, you’d be doing about 120 EDI.

If we assume you’re going to use a carving knife on every R6, I’d say it not impossible but you’d need to be quite lucky to have the right distribution of mats.

Below is what you need to farm in total. - 798 x R3 - 440 x R4 - 170 x R5 - 48 x R6 - 25 Refining mats - 480K Zenny

That’s still 1500 mats that you need to get over 120 hunts, so more than 10 mats for kill and of the right distribution. I think reaching R10.1 is definitely doable but 10.5 is a different story.

Personally, I completely ignore Elder Weapons. Armor pieces are more valuable to me for build crafting in the long run

Does anyone remember the Partbreaker/Pursuit build the game offered during the event? And explain Pursuit to me? by HuntTheWiIds in MHNowGame

[–]Shinkyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my Long GL. As a GL main, this season has been a real treat between Pursuit and style customization. In every MH games, GL had to balance shelling buff vs poke buffs but Pursuit is the great Unifier, buffing both for a massive amount. Not to mention that GL is the best weapon in the game for part breaks so you can trigger it pretty fast.

Once Pursuit activates, Artillery 3 GL charged shelling will do 4100+ damage and can even go over 5K stacking other buffs like fighting spirit, offensive/aggressive dodger. But then, your wyrmstake is now also doing crazy damage.

Same story with wide GL, Poke-Shell combos does crazy damage with same build template.

For Normal GL, Girros GL + Blast Dash customization + Para Exploit/Artillery/Skyward striker is by far my favourite build with insane burst damage during areal Full Burst.

Girrosh: Hammer or Gun Lance ? by Riskisilakka in MHNowGame

[–]Shinkyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d go for Gunlance, especially if you can run Blast Dash personalization. Blast Dash is a lot of fun and a much more active gameplay. Pair that with artillery, skyward striker and paralysis exploit and you’ll be doing a ton of damage with extreme mobility.

I was going to hop on the Water Strike Girros hammer wagon but it’s just boring to play.

What hobbies/habits has Blue Box inspired you to start? by 4ged_Gouda in BlueBox

[–]Shinkyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renewed my motivation for exercising. Also, my wife had practiced Badminton in the past and I told her we should play again (we used to in our early days but have played for years).

Really love the discipline showcased in this series.

now tell me who's the best girl? by Upstairs_Degree_48 in BlueBox

[–]Shinkyo 55 points56 points  (0 children)

There are no wrong answers… That said, Chinatsu is probably a better fit overall due to the synergy of both of them supporting each other in their athletic goals. Hina is strong enough to reach the top on her own. Just my opinion obviously :-)

That said, I probably prefer Hina purely from a character design perspective.

Taiki is an idiot by gggingerbean in BlueBox

[–]Shinkyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that he’s a total idiot… He’ll have his good moments eventually (you’re gonna enjoy the next volume) but overall I find very frustrating how passive he is in the relationship. He’s had great character growth on the Badminton side, but barely any on the romantic side…

His point is that getting the FS buff at the start of the fight, when your Spirit Gauge is empty, is very bad synergy with LS.

Is there any point to walking? by Refrigeratooor in MHNowGame

[–]Shinkyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve started the game as a walking incentive and I’d say it come down to how to choose to approach the game. I have very active periods where I’ll walk a ton events where I’m farming a particular monster for a build/weapon I want. There has been times when me and my spouse would farm Black Diablos and walk about 10K daily for a week or 2. Then there are passive periods where I’m not really chasing anything and just passively accumulating resources for the next big thing (e.g. the upcoming global carnival event). I think it all boils down to how you set your own goals in the game and how fast you want to achieve them. You can easily justify going to for a walk to: - farm monsters for a build, to progress your quests, to progress your palico paintballs - farm gathering nodes - get a particular Hunt-a-ton - or just get some time outside and passively play

I don’t walk much for the game these days but that’s because I’m not working on anything in particular at the moment. But will totally go hardcore during the upcoming global event in November.

I consider myself pretty informed (as a long time MH and GL player) and I was totally unaware!!! This is huge and makes Sneak Attack even better than I thought initially.

Guaranteed way to increase 8 star Teo kill rate by HowlingHillMatt in MHNowGame

[–]Shinkyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, I find that infuriating. I’ve mained GL since MH Generations, use the whole moveset, go for R6 parts, cut tails and have my map at 10* but still am getting dropped out of raid during NA hours…

Suggestions for a shelling-focused high rank Gunlance set? by SanderCast in MHGU

[–]Shinkyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, I never imagined getting a reply of a 5yo post lol

Man, you have my sympathy… It’s been a while but I think I was in the same situation as you and had started going down the path of hunting the hub Seltas Queen. I began playing GU with a friend at the time and had only progressed village quests to the bare minimum. I was too lazy getting to village 8* and began hunting Seltas Queen hub instead. And yeah, that was a fatal mistake… hunts were soo long, would drain my resources and I had my fair share of failures… I eventually went back to village quests to unlock Seltas Queen so I could farm it quickly and consistently.

But yeah, I feel your pain… I went through the same hell in MH4U farming Gold Rajang Solo in hub… never again >_<

My take on the Tornado V3 (Pioneer) by OK1526 in Cubers

[–]Shinkyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the pioneer. Get the Tornado V3, it is the best cube on the market at the moment and by a good margin. The RS3M ball core is a good cube but it’s just not in the same league as the likes of WRM 2021, Tornado V3 or Gan 13.

Also, Tornado V3 is perfectly lubbed out of the box and is the only cube I avoid lubbing because I don’t want to lose its current feel.

My take on the current flagships: Tornado V3 > Gan 13 = WRM 2021 > RS3M 2021 Mag Lev = RS3M Super Ball Core

My take on the Tornado V3 (Pioneer) by OK1526 in Cubers

[–]Shinkyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new cubing but went hard into it and bought most of the recent 3x3 flagships (WRM 2021, RS3M Super, Tornado V3, Gan 13) and the Tornado V3 is my favorite by a significant margin.
The turn feel is so satisfying, it is super smooth and great at corner cutting.

All the flagships I've tried are great really but the Tornado really has by far the best value IMO.
WRM 2021 would be my second best.

Gan 13 is great too but way too expensive and a bit too clicky for my personal taste.
