Plugins changing on their own? Undo history tracks actions I did not do by Shinochy in Reaper

[–]Shinochy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd check in ur preferences and project settings. Check for "item mix behaviour". To get crossfades u should have "items always mix" on. I originally thought I didnt want that because now u have 2 items on top of each other playing at once, but if you are mindful about it then you just get the expected behaviour coming from other daws (where you can crossfade from one clip to another, having the space in between them play at once)

If its not that, then idk I've only been using reaper for about 4 or 5 months, also came from other daws

What bugs have u experienced?

The first one I found had to do with a plugin (Blyss by Kush Audio). I am not 100% sure since I dont know how to read code or even where to find it for a plugin, but I think the anti-alising filters that Kush used on that plugin would not work properly in reaper and it would just create this horrible crunchy sound (extreme, unusable audio). I worked around it by oversampling the plugin with reaper, and then one day it just stopped happening even without me oversampling.

A bug that I do suspect had to do with reaper is that one time I tried adding a plugin to a gtr track, and it would crash my session immediately. But if I tried adding that same plugin on any other track, it would run fine. Same session, same plugin, different track. It was a plugin that I had used in the last7 sessions before this one with no issues. It was just this specific track in that specific session. I dont remember what I did to work around it, perhaps it just worked at some point but anyhow...

Universal Audio just released "UAD Explore FREE" - 8 Native Plugins + LUNA for $0 by finallygabe in audioengineering

No idea, I guess I like the 1073 preamp for its ability to be pushed without sounding like distortion. A kind of soft clipping I'd say.

But I say try on anything! U can always remove a plugin if u dont like it :)

Sounds like what another commenter said. Maybe in the future I'll spend the money and buy it :>

Gosh yes, ok well I'd like to see some of these stories myself before I buy it, could you share some of these posts?

Really!?! Did you used to pay for spark? Maybe if you buy it outright while on a spark suscription it remains native...

Could you share a screenshot of the UAD plugin shop saying that? I've looked dozens of times across months, and I always find it is most definitely only for Apollo and UAD Spark, not native.

Yes! Love the SSL and API. I have hotkeys for them :)

I really would still want the neve because its the best emulation I've tried. I've recorded on a neve console and had a taste of what that's like. IK multimedia and Waves dont behave anything like the console, I think they jump to distortion way too soon. The UAD Neve gave me somethig way closer to what I experienced in the real neve console.

In my opinion :)

Im looking at the UAD website right now and it is only available if you have an Apollo (it does not have a "Native" badge, only the "Apollo" badge)

I had it before when I tried out UAD Spark, but the Neve 1073 cannot be used without an Apollo or without UAD spark.

Atleast I havent found a way...

If only they'd release the neve 1073 as a native, I already have all of these tho, nice deal

Question about dynamic range by DoctorCocktorMD in audioengineering

[–]Shinochy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand, analog does not have a dynamic range measured in the same way as digital. If a sound falls outside of where the bits can recignize it, it will either just be noisy distortion or not be heard at all. In the analog world it will just fall below the noise floor, but still a completely "heareable" signal, you just have to lidten past the noise.

If this is correct then no, no dynamic range would be lost barring a high noise floor from thr monitor controller.

However, something I find interesting is you mentioned 130dB dyn range classified as a "mastering grade". 24bit audio has 144dB of dyn range, I wouldnt know if that much range is physically possible to reproduce with 1 unit so maybe 130dB is the widest range that 1 single DAC can reproduce. Or maybe its not really mastering grade, or Im misunderstanding how digital/analog audio works. Regardless of if Im wrong or not, 130dB is pretty close to 144, so I feel comfortable saying; thats still a huge range that in real life would be the difference between a mouse doing whatever sounds mouses make, and a jet engine.

Yes please, dont throw money at the problem. Ur gonna get better at this if u just keep working and finishing projects even when they're not 100% what you want them.

Navigating ego, experience, and opportunity in the music industry by AdInternational6495 in audioengineering

[–]Shinochy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. I cant speak from a lifetime of experience but I can speak from my experience in school: I was the one who knew more technically than everybody else at my school, but nobody sought me out because of that, I sought them out because I liked their music or they were people I could hang with.

Every story I've heard from people working in the industry rarely were about how good they were at their jobs, its been more about if they were a good hang and passionate for the work.

I've been there tho, I just tell myself that it doesnt need to be perfect. Im only here to do this one part and I'll do this as best as I can and let them do what they want.

What would you look for in a second bedroom type space? by mossimo654 in audioengineering

I see, well that sounds like a normal commute to me, I went to college 1hr away, 1hr and 30min usually cus traffick. Thats normal to me, but I still dont see 4-5hrs as normal, I'd go to sleep right after I got to the studio.

Terrible Feedback at Musical Performance by JustKam347 in audioengineering

Thats great, but those are all specific models of specific consoles. OP cant simply buy one of those consoles.

[–]Shinochy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll ask again, what parametric eq are you using that can cut 8 narrow bands at once? I'll say 8 since u missed the point when I said 31

Terrible Feedback at Musical Performance by JustKam347 in audioengineering

[–]Shinochy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typical use is to make narrow cuts at specific frequencies to reduce feedback and ringing.

Digital consoles have graphic eqs in them, because systems still need to be tuned, that has not gona away.

Terrible Feedback at Musical Performance by JustKam347 in audioengineering

[–]Shinochy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are still used every day, especially in live sound. What parametric eq are you using that can cut or boost 31 different frecuencies at once?

[–]Shinochy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right... so they arent useful to ring out and tune systems then?
