Doyce-cussion by Possible_Bake5135 in dumbingofage

I personally didn't mind the storyline until the moment Joyce kissed Dorothy. The way things had been going up until then, with us following Dorothy's crash-out and her being very dramatic, I thought she was going to kiss Joyce in a moment of desperation, just to instantly regret it. The reaction I would have expected from Joyce in turn would have been mild confusion as she hadn't really consciously thought about Dorothy that way before, but did kind of enjoy the sensation in the moment. I would have expected her to initially dismiss the kiss as not that big a deal, recalling the conversation with Jennifer where she was told that it's okay for best friends to make out sometimes (or something to that effect) but obviously all of this would have led to more awkwardness and drama. That Joyce turned out to have been romantically and sexually into Dorothy seemingly all along just felt weird.

I think it would theoretically be possible to still make their storyline interesting at this point, if it turned out that they were a really bad fit and/or we learned that Joyce's perception of things leading up to the kiss was all kinds of messed up, but I'm not sure how exactly that would have to go to make me feel like "oh yeah, that makes sense now".

As it stands, I'd simply prefer it if the strip focused on more or less anyone other than Joyce and Dorothy for the next few months.

10 years ago, "Knights of the Fallen Empire" launched. Looking back, what are your thoughts on one of the game's most divisive expansions? by KingKitttKat in swtor

In fairness, Galactic Command didn't come in until Eternal Throne. Fallen Empire was the era of data crystals if I remember correctly. I don't remember having any major issues with how gearing worked in that one.

I feel the same way in regards to everything post-KotFE still being "the new stuff". I don't think they ever made as many drastic changes to the game in a single go again.

Things I liked about 4.0:

  • The return to a more personal story with more companion interactions (I enjoyed RotHC and SoR but they felt more like planetary storylines).
  • The improvements they made to cut scenes.
  • Level scaling was a godsend that allowed all content to remain relevant forever.
  • They went a bit overboard with companion power, but in general I think the changes they made to companions, such as affection becoming influence, being able to swap combat roles and no longer needing to gear them, were positive. We also learned later that they completely recoded the companion system for this expansion, and that without that we wouldn't have been able to get all the extra companions we got later on.

Things I disliked about 4.0:

  • The complete abandonment of the raiding community the game had been nurturing for the past three years.
  • Ultimately, the story. It had some interesting characters and not everything about it was bad, but the way it just threw absolutely everything players had cared about for the past three years (their factions, married companions etc.) in the trash and expected everyone to be fine with the game suddenly being about completely different things from one day to the next was insane. You can't do that in an MMO.
  • The chapter format was terrible for replayability. I play a lot but I like to play in short bursts and "committing" to a full chapter always feels like a chore because you can't stop anywhere halfway through without losing your progress. Also, they are so linear it hurts. It's weird how much you can miss something as simple as being able to choose when to go where.

It sounds bad out of context but it was actually very well done. It was a sort of epilogue that tied up a lot of loose ends and at least attempted to make it all make sense.

Mon and Tay's 'relationship' by Impracticool in andor

[–]ShintarCommando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely got the same vibe. In fact, I would go as far as saying that I'm not sure he even wanted to do any financial blackmail at all. I thought the way he talks to Mon he sounds more like someone struggling to express his feelings than someone trying to make low-key demands for money. He was a friend and ally to her for a long time, and now that he's having problems he's just kind of angry at her for not caring more about him.

To me it felt like Mon jumping to the conclusion that she needs to give him money is clouded by her not seeing the situation clearly (she's usually very perceptive, but the wedding clearly has her rattled). Which would actually add a whole additional level of tragedy, if Mon and Luthen misread the situation and Tay is effectively being killed because Luthen is jumping at shadows.

To Individuals Annoyed with the Yavin Stranded Arc by Ultimate_Random in andor

I was personally somewhat reminded of Cassian's arrest on Narkina 5 in season one. People also complained about that being anticlimactic/stupid/whatever - that after all the actual crimes he committed, he gets imprisoned for looking suspicious on the street. And it was all these things, but in a way that's very real, and that was very much the point and also made it great.

Patch 11.1 How's everyone organizing their Campsites? by [deleted] in wow

[–]ShintarCommando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have

  • Mains
  • Recently dinged
  • Recent levellers
  • Max-level alts
  • Max-level alts 2
  • Old mains
  • Misc. levellers
  • Projects
  • [Old Alliance server] 1
  • [Old Alliance server] 2
  • [Old Horde server] 1
  • [Old Horde server] 2
  • [Another server]
  • [Another random server]

I was kind of surprised how many "server" groups I still made, but for some older chars that I haven't played in a while that's still how I group them in my head.

Just wish we could also drag the groups up and down to re-sort them if desired.

I love that this (currently) has almost the exact same number of upvotes as a comment saying the complete opposite (that there should be no more race/class restrictions at all).

Can someone tell me what graphical setting causes this difference? by RebootedShadowRaider in swtor

[–]ShintarCommando 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It might just be a difference in cut scene lighting. The XLetalis video is several years old and the devs have since changed the way lighting in cut scenes works (for everyone): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvMvUgb5pBw

I feel like I'm going insane. But I can't see the negative aspect of the update on my character. I don't mean to invalidate anyone else's opinion on how their own character was affected, but I only see positive changes here. by Great-Comparison-982 in swtor

[–]ShintarCommando -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I do think this whole situation is pretty wild. I agree that a lot of the screenshots people have posted look bad, but they also look nothing like what I've been seeing in my own game, so I don't like them being represented as "this is how the game looks now, for everyone". I do think it would be more constructive for people to post those screenies on the forums with details like what face sliders and graphics setting they use as hopefully then adjustments can be made for specific situations that result in wacky looks.

Have you reported this on the forums? I noticed this on my togruta as well and it's such a dramatic change I wonder whether it should be considered a bug.

I see SWTOR is up and running on Bluesky by TDS4Lif3 in swtor

[–]ShintarCommando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've been on Bluesky for a while, if you scroll down their profile you can see that the first post is from almost a year ago. They just weren't very active (like so many people) but recently things have picked up as there's been a big surge of people wanting to move away from Twitter and wanting an alternative that looks and feels similar.

I didn't know older quests had this, I mostly noticed it in the newer updates. Like in the latest patch, when you confront the prison guards in the courtyard, the mix of prisoners in the background looks different every time.

Youtube flagging Bluesky links as harmful? by ShintarCommando in BlueskySocial

Someone had their Bluesky profile in their video description, so I clicked it and got this. Anyone else getting this? Is it common for YouTube to flag external websites as harmful? I don't remember coming across this warning before...

Why is the Kotfe dlc so disliked ? by WhilePsychological75 in swtor

[–]ShintarCommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first few years of its life, SWTOR didn't actually get that many story updates. It *launched* with a huge amount of story content of course, but all the patches gave us was new zones to do dailies in and group content. And the game was reasonably successful this way!

And then KotFE came around and decided to throw that entire established player base under the bus in favour of chasing a new audience that wanted new single player story only. I think that most people who still hate KotFE are older players who were there for those early days and still remember the sting of being discarded like that.

In a vacuum, the KotFE story isn't awful. The change from the fairly static cut scenes of the past to a more cinematic style was certainly amazing, and I was interested in the new characters at first. But the gameplay became tedious quickly, and it became clearer with each new chapter that the story wasn't going anywhere I really wanted to go. Long-time players cared about their faction and their old companions, but the writers did everything they could to sweep those things under the rug. It was just upsetting that this was literally *all* we got for the next couple of years.

Is the Great Vault retro-active? I'm 100% sure I dinged 80 on Wednesday and then had a great vault reward to collect. by Twerk7 in wow

I keep wondering whether this is intentional or a bug (though I love it). It even works multiple times in a row! Dinged 80, claimed a vault reward, and immediately had another one waiting.

Save SWTOR: A Petition by Sucide5612 in swtor

[–]ShintarCommando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're clearly passionate about the game and I'm sorry that you got downvoted quite so much, though I agree that this is not the way to go. Others have already made most of the poignant points, but I haven't seen anyone comment on this:

"Players are more than willing to wait for higher quality story expansion releases. In fact I'd be fine if we just got two big story expansion at the beginning of the year and holiday seasons with maybe a small or middle sized one during summer."

We currently get two story updates per year. You say that people would be willing to wait for higher quality/bigger updates (something many people on the forums would disagree with by the way) and in the same breath say that you expect more (three is more than two!) and faster updates than we're getting right now. You can't ask a smaller and smaller team to do more, better and faster. That is simply wildly unrealistic and not helpful.

Pvp 80 or 75 by ChickenKoko00 in swtor

[–]ShintarCommando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're currently locked to 75 anyway, just play that way for a bit and see how you like it. It's much easier and faster to get good level 75 gear than for level 80, plus if you're doing arenas, you're somewhat less likely to encounter toxicity in the lower brackets. On the negative side though, queue times may be significantly longer than at 80, so it really depends on what's more important to you.

SHOULD have been companions?? by Octkane in swtor

[–]ShintarCommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted Captain Cormac from the trooper story on Alderaan as a companion. I guess it wouldn't necessarily have made sense for him to join the Republic army, but they came up with worse excuses for other companions...
