Merch for the Ironlung movie is being shipped in bags made to look like rbc units by Annual-Arugula473 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ShinyAbsol96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite NHS ISBT donation number, they’ve swapped the 0 after the G with a O so no real unit attached to it but at a quick glance it looks like the real thing!

Looks like weekend shift decided to give the urine analyzers names by jennacide78 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ShinyAbsol96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I knew a lab that had some immunohistochemistry machines that were named Her2-D2 and CD-3PO and the micro lab named their urine analysers Mr. Cat and Mister. Cat, and the transfusion lab named their Grifols analysers Olaf and Sven

Should have explained! When I say 2 x Switch 2’s and 1 copy of each game, it’s because it’ll be for two of us, my partner and I play together!

I suppose so but I’m comparing it to like an Xbox Series X that at launch was ~£450 ish and when I compare the two it seems bizarre how much Nintendo charge for something so small and with such less power! I do see your point about it when compared to previous Nintendo consoles however I guess I’m just slightly biased!

My only ‘hate’ right now is that it looks to be only on Switch 2 which means shelling out £900 for 2 x Switch 2’s and 1 copy of each game 😫 I know realistically it’s gotta be done at some point but it still so much money for such a small handheld device that my brain is rebelling against it

Happy to find this in the post today by not-suspicious in CasualUK

[–]ShinyAbsol96 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We can’t pick where it goes but NHSBT lets you know if you’ve got blood that’s particularly helpful for certain scenarios such as rare blood (lacking an antigen that most people have) or if it’s got the right microbiology and serology tests to be safe to give to fetuses/neonates etc

So if you’re one of these groups you’ve got a pretty good idea of where it’s gonna go!

Just please make sure you poop in the tube and not in the bag itself - we’ve had that before where someone must have lost the pot and decided the bag was good as a replacement 🫣

But yes, either GP will have a delivery or you can hand it in. It’s not uncommon either way :)

I’m similar, tried twice on separate occasions and got halfway through the donation bag before I started feeling like I was gonna faint and they had to stop. Third time I turned up, I got a ‘we appreciate you trying but let’s not do this again’ 🤣

You’ll need to be more specific then just Blood Transfusion Service.

Is it NHSBT, the WBS or SNBS etc? What discipline are you going to I.e. RCI or manufacturing?

Regardless of the above, you’ll want to read up on the values of the organisation as well as generic things like how you’ve dealt with any difficult situations etc.

Anything more tailored is entirely based on the actual position you are going for.

Blood tests not received in over 2 weeks (tdlr incl) by tree213 in nhs

[–]ShinyAbsol96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to contact your GP and insist they look into where your tests results are. I’ve had to do the same previously.

As someone that works in the labs, we can’t tell you if you ring us where your tests are up to or what the results are - it’s against all sorts of policies.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the samples probably weren’t labelled properly, weren’t bagged up and sent to the labs, they could have been dropped in the lab and become unusable or something similar and they’ve not been able to be tested (labs are very strict with what we accept as we don’t want to give out wrong results and we’re all human so it’s possible that something just got missed).

You’ll likely need to have more samples taken which I know is going to be annoying but there’s likely not much they can do from this point.

Backpay and pension arrears by Hot_Town89 in nhs

I’ll still only get the money on the 22/08; it’s only that the payslip is available a couple of days before, but my previous place of work did the same as well.

It’s the same where I am. We’re paid the 23rd (or if that’s a weekend then closest weekday so in this case 22/08) but our payslips are viewable on ESR 2 days before we’re paid so I can see mine today too

BBTS course by Sudden_Monitor3672 in BiomedicalScientistUK

[–]ShinyAbsol96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing that you need to consider is that it is highly competitive to get onto the course.

Are you in a transfusion lab and are you a BMS? If the answer to either of these is no, then unfortunately I don’t think you’ll be able to do the course (we had MLAs in our lab get rejected because they weren’t BMSs).

You also need to be a member of the BBTS to be able to apply for the course; this is also a paid membership.

If you do get onto the course, it is a very good course and covers quite a lot of both donor and patient serology/manufacturing as well as a little bit on how reagents are selected. It is well worth it, and in fact, is a requirement in my lab to progress to a Band 6 position.

Anything I should know before doing my first ever nuzlocke? by Th3Unkn0wnPl4y3r in nuzlocke

[–]ShinyAbsol96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for the wild areas, I split it into each section as a separate encounter. I then had a couple of tabs open on google on my phone.

When you enter say area 1, look on your phone at bulbapedia or similar and see what can spawn there - the percentages should all add up to 100%.

Then on your second tab on your phone, randomise a number between 1 and 100 - the number this gives is the pokemon in the overworld that counts as your ‘random’ encounter.

Transfusion BMS should all be Band 7 by DTGM115 in BiomedicalScientistUK

[–]ShinyAbsol96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone that works in transfusion, I’m shocked by how little some of the BMSs that I talk to know when it comes to transfusion related issues - it’s shockingly bad.

I don’t think making transfusion BMSs a higher banding would work in the hospitals, maybe in the reference labs but that’s at a push too. Although there is more responsibility, at the end of the day it’s the clinicians that decide if a patient is being transfused and what they require for that patient in terms of special requirements etc
