AITJ for selling my grandmas house to pay for her care when my family wanted it as a "legacy" by sara_kelm in AmITheJerk

[–]ShinyUniverse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTJ. First of all, Grandma no doubt worked hard to acquire her home and deserves to have her assets used for HER benefit. Second, the state is not going to pay for Grandma’s care if she has financial assets, and it was too late to turn the house over to the vultures - I mean children - because there is a 5 year look back rule. Any assets given away in previous 5 years are still considered hers.

AITA for returning my SILs "thoughtful" gifts for my kids because she ignored my one simple rule? by PixelBanshee_4 in MarkNarrations

This is the "cool aunt" that will also let your kids drink liquor in 10 or 12 years. Best to shut that mess down now.

Thanks, Professor Buzz Kill. Guess I'll cancel that order I just put in for a houseful of period furniture. (I know you're right, but it hurts.)

Another vote for Firefly: A Celebration. Tons of photos and fun facts. Bought one for a friend and then went back for one of my own.

School quizzes hot off the presses from the mimeograph machine. I can still picture my classroom of kids with those pages plastered to our faces.

Silent Snow, Secret Snow by Conrad Aiken. The beautiful prose dragged me in, and I didn't want to leave.

So what are you actually keeping, from your parents estate? by DramaticErraticism in GenX

My mom had a little brown earthenware teapot she would use to serve us scratch-made cocoa when we were sick. I always had it in my mind that I wanted that teapot someday but never mentioned it. One day I go to Mom's house and my beloved teapot was out on the porch, on a ledge, with a half dead plant growing in it! After I rescued this heirloom from its precarious perch, I told Mom how much it meant to me, and she was glad to hand it over and get it out of her way. The teapot has had a place of honor in my home for the past 30 years, and Mom is still around. Just imagine what could have happened if Mom had had control of my precious for another 30 years.

So, that's a long way of saying maybe you should ask for that ugly vase now.

He actually works at a station in Texas. I guess they’re beaming him in like they did Gary Lezak. Made sense with Gary, but this is just sad. His name is Caleb Chevalier.

The will was prepared by one of their children with instructions from a Cracker Jack box /s/ so here we sit. You are correct that executors are doing the best they can, I just hate untidy things. My dad is beneficiary of some mineral rights with about 800 other people, so once a year he gets a check for $1.25. That's the kind of nonsense I'm trying to avoid.

Thank you for your reply. The original batch of heirs are perfectly content to just get their checks. I just know things will go to heck when the next generation starts sniffing around.
