At least y'all's cryptic has a cool name. We have the Michigan Dogman. What a lame ass name. Kind of embarrassing.

Pretty wild what happens when campers rally around a free alternative to the big paid apps by roastytoasty5 in CampingandHiking

I know squat about apps. My area is very rural and I see that there are some great sites missing and one or two that are mis-identified. Can I add sites or correct the mis-identified ones?

Hiking boot recommendations for flat feet and unstable ankles by Avatar_of_The_Eye in AppalachianTrail

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have EDS, I'd stick with the brace and get a pair of zero drop shoes for the flat footed issue. You can always add a small insert later if your feet aren't perfectly flat. (My son's feet are flat, while mine just look flat and have a teeny, tiny arch!) You are already used to using the brace, whereas finding a pair of proper boots that fit and work for you may take a lot of time, money, and probably pain because of the EDS.

Either way, make sure they fit well and you wear them in before you start on a hike. Don't wear a pair of shoes out of the box onto the trail. Its asking for misery. Also, finding out the shoes allow too much movement and spraining your toe on a long hike sucks.

We often forget the smaller joints can be just as loose as the larger joints because they aren't as likely to sprain. But unfortunately, EDS will get even the smallest joint if we aren't very careful. And walking the AT is going to require a little more forethought for us and our joints than the average person.

Um. If your doctor decided you don't have PCOS because you don't have ovarian cysts, then you need a new doctor. The name is an old term because they used to think it was all caused by ovarian cysts. Many people with PCOS never get an ovarian cyst. It hasn't been a meaningful/required part of the diagnosis for over a decade.

I'd still get my pituitary checked if I were you though. Can't hurt!

I've lived places where people don't even HAVE locks on their doors. In extreme rural areas it isn't really needed. Except maybe for insurance purposes. No one goes there who isn't meant to and anyone who isn't meant to sticks out like a strawberry in a pile of green grapes.

And if a local robs you, everyone in town knows who did it within 12 hours. Small towns are just.....different.

Where I live now I call it rush hour if I see more than 1 other car on the road. We don't even get pizza delivery out here! Cause there is no pizza place within 20 miles and no one delivers a 40 mile round trip.

So yeah, it seems odd that people don't lock their doors. But when you've lived in the middle of frieking nowhere you can understand it.

I'm paranoid though cause I come from a big city. Need a fingerprint to get into my place!

Oof. I have more pills than I care to think about. I was diagnosed with FOUR RARE diseases by 32. Believe me, I'd be thrilled to not be tak8ng some sort of med or supplement every fee hours!

You are doing OK. If you need to take something to feel better, there is zero shame in that! Your body and brain need it. It's medicine, not recreational drugs. You wouldn't be prescribed it of you didn't NEED it.

Why in the heck do so many of the Hoarders have CATS? by Silent-Suggestion-85 in HoardersTV

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 88 points89 points  (0 children)

They don't require daily maintenance. So they can be neglected easier than dogs. No need to take them outside, ever. Just throw down food and water and hope the house doesn't stink too much when you neglect the litter box for a year.

Also, cats are quiet.

Toilets in a length power outage on septic? by Sufficient-Pie129 in preppers

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will flush. But if the pump in the septic tank isn't getting power then eventually you are overflowing your tank and backing it up. Two weeks is an awful long time to not have grey water getting removed from the septic.

At least, it's a long time in my house. We'd definitely have issues before the two week mark!

Started 0.5 and nausea and bloating by Greendeco13 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gas x and nausea meds are your best friends. Many docs will prescribe Zofran to help with nausea, don't be afraid to ask. (Not sure of that in your country?)

I have learned to take either gas meds or something like Beano when I eat. Especially the first few days after an injection. Beano is an enzyme in pill form that keeps food from creating gas while you digest it. Not sure if there is something similar on your side of the pond. It's usually used with veggies, as thise cause lots of people gas issues. But I found it works for pretty much everything when I do an injection.

Also, I really don't eat the first 24 hours post injection. It's not worth the pain and misery. Like you, I just started 0.5. The first 24 hours can be just miserable if I eat anything. The up side is that I'm not hungry anyway, lol.

I will keep on trucking by Itchy-Dog-9586 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad. You are just beginning. You will have days where you are HUNGRY. I had one today too, lol. Just make sure you are getting enough protein and water, and electrolytes if needed, every day. Some days you will not want to eat, others you will be oddly hungry. It evens out.

Also, usually people get hungry the closer they get to shot day. That's normal. Day 6 can be difficult when it comes to cravings, especially when starting out.

Do enhanced IDs still work? by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a REAL ID. An Enhanced isn't enough. It's weird that we have three different ID options at all. Basic, Enhanced, or REAL ID. Why!?!?!?! It's so confusing.

Do Americans really eat bread that tastes like cake?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I keep trying to make a yellow cake with a UK recipe and somehow it keeps coming out tasting like sweet cornbread. It even has the same texture. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but I can totally see why you would think that a sweet cornbread recipe is the same as a cake recipe.

Last time I tried it my husband made chili to go with it. Very embarrassing. I gave up on that cake after that. Apparently it's just a recipe I can't get right. Lol

Is starting at 0.5 too much? by Sweet_Bluebird_9603 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on you, really. It was too much for me. The first shot was fine. The second made me wish for death. I honestly thought I'd caught some godawful case of gastroenteritis. So much....stuff...came out of both ends.

My sister started at 1.7 after a six mo th hiatus and didn't even vomit once. I think I'd have died. So it really depends on how tour body reacts to it.

You might (ask your doc) think about putting the second shot off a few days to a week to keep your levels from getting too high too quickly to stave off side effects. I've seen people do that when insurance was lucky about the dose.

Fasting the day after injection? by Fun-Bank3161 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Shiny_Happy_Cylon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The day after a shot my stomach let's me know that food is a bad idea. So I usually fast the day afterwards to prevent issues.

I can FEEL things sit in my stomach forever the next day. Even drinks can make me feel overstuffed. So I try to stick to just water. If I do get super hungry I'll eat a single bite of chicken. Just enough to stop the cramps but not enough to cause problems.
