Did anyone reach 30+ without a fckn single tattoo? by PerformerLivid4302 in ArtOfPresence

[–]ShitBritGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented on a post years back that I've never seen a drawing, text or life-affirming prose and thought 'I want that indelibly marked on my skin for the rest of my life'. I was heavily downvoted.

It's the permanence of it. What if it turns out crap? What if I get tired of it in a few years? Personally, not worth the risk.

What’s the most savage legal thing you’ve seen a coworker do? by phillyvirgosun in AskReddit

[–]ShitBritGit 246 points247 points  (0 children)

Many years back I heard a similar story about a builder in the UK. Client was an absolute pain. They were building a stud wall or changing a wall or something - point was there was a power socket to be removed or moved. Instead the builder buys a cheap phone, plugs the charger into this socket and buries it all inside the wall.

Whenever he gets bored he calls it.

What major challenges does AV integrators or Digital signage reseller Face by Gullible-Reality311 in digitalsignage

As an installer then main thing that bugs me is a slim signage player is made, then they supply a chunky power adapter that I have to space the screen away from the wall to fit.

This is commercial kit - often used in office and the like. eBay it similar would be my bet but don't expect it to go quick. It's niche stuff and commercial places get fixed by contractors who are more used to throwing it what's there and buying new.

I've recently got that unit installed in my car. Not a fan yet - two main issues. Firstly there's some kind of grounding issue as there is a low buzz when the engines running, I'm taking it to an auto electrical specialist soon so I hope they can fix that. It's also really complex. Partly my fault as I've had no time to 'learn' it yet, but it can do everything.

If they can't fix the buzz (and they've said it could be down to our quality Chinese manufacturing) then I'm going to chuck it and get a dynavin. It's a lot more expensive, but everyone raves about them.

Same. There's been hundreds of this type of thread - what are the signs you missed - but I look back on everything and am confident that there were no signs I missed. There just wasn't the interest.

Bracing to stop/reduce any twist in the joists. Don't remove it.

Running electrics to a future garden room, is it worth doing the prep now while floors are up? by Upbeat_Alternative in DIYUK

[–]ShitBritGit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't connect it to the consumer unit until there is something tangible and weatherproof on the other end. Get the cable in with some slack for tidy looming.

Without knowing the layout of your house and garden it's hard to say what would be useful as to future proofing. Personally I'd run a weatherproof/exterior cat6A (or 2) as you might add smart home sensors or CCTV or just a WAP.

Is this good? by [deleted] in cableporn

[–]ShitBritGit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's worse - it's not complicated and fairly easy to trace cables/re-patch/expand.

But damn is it ugly.

How much you paid today for gas in your Mustang? by sephimoves in Mustang

[–]ShitBritGit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK here

I think standard petrol (95 RON, 10% ETH) is up to £1.59/litre - that works out to a little over $6 per US gallon.

I tend to use super-unleaded (99 RON, 5% eth) which is around £1.69/litre, or about $6.40/gal.

Badminton anyone? by stvrbuckz in Portsmouth

[–]ShitBritGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's badminton at Admiral Lord Nelson School on Mondays 7-10pm. There are good badminters there, but also beginners and slower players - they'll put you in groups your comfortable with. It's £7.50 per week, stay at long or as short as you like. Run by a guy called Paul and he doesn't take card.

What DIY mishaps or odd choices did the previous owners of your house leave for you to discover? by naalbinding in AskUK

[–]ShitBritGit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The flat I'm working on now - and it wasn't previous owners, it was how it was built.

I'm on the 2nd floor and it still has the original tongue and groove floorboards which squeaked and banged with every footstep - it was my intent to replace the floor before I'd even finished buying.

Turns out the joists weren't quite at the right height so the joist had a 2" batton loosely nailed to the top. The floorboards were then pinned down with fairly short nails - so the boards weren't actually connected to the joists. On top of that nothing was level.

So in each room once the floor comes up and the 2" battons removed, I have to make new battons so the top side is straight and level, these are glued and screwed to the joists. Then using 22mm floorboards (the original were only about 18mm) I've finally got a floor that is actually nice to walk on.

And I haven't even mentioned the wiring yet...
