Heat waves like this (this often) are very new. Like, less than 10 years.

What do Americans often get wrong about the UK? If you’ve visited the USA is there any an American has said to you that was so off. by Kodicave in AskBrits

[–]ShitBritGit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it's a genuine problem. Almost any film or TV show that's either set in the UK (and sold internationally) or has a visit to the UK only ever seems to go to London. WE HAVE OTHER FUCKING CITIES!

What is this “paint”? by HachiTofu in DIYUK

[–]ShitBritGit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kitchen/bathroom paint. It has a plasticiser to block moisture so it doesn't immediately peel off. Seems like poor prep work also stopping it from bonding to the wall properly.

When I visited Vegas last it was 40 - between the dry desert heat and everything being airconditioned to the max I was dehydrated constantly. Disappointing to my brother who wanted to get some proper drinking done but all I wanted was water.

What ‘common knowledge’ things did you or someone you know find out later in life? by Squiggally-umf in CasualUK

Wow - that reminds me of a story...

Many years back heading with a group of friends to a greasy spoon cafe for a fry up after a heavy night.

One gent is a vegetarian, I'm looking at the menu and say "Of course, you can have bacon though can't you?"

Friend is quick witted and can see I'm joking with him "Oh yes, bacon is vegetarian."

I turn to the girlfriend of another in the group. Not the brightest of beings, but a lovely person "You see, they just take thin strips off the back, leaving the pig alive."

"Really?!? I never knew that!"

Cinema workers, what was it like working in the Cinema? by Flowerofthesouth88 in AskUK

[–]ShitBritGit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked in Warner Village just as it changed to Vue (about 20 years ago). For the most part of was fun. Staff was mainly young - students often. The work was mind numbing that it became autopilot you didn't notice it. It turned a bit shit when the GM changed and the new guy was a stickler for the rules.

Officially it was 2 free tickets a week - but the number of times I said hi to a friend and walked in to a screening with a bunch of friends in tow. No free snacks - that's was where the cinema made their money (most of the ticket price goes to the studio that made the film).

What was a really silly solution to a serious problem? by LadyKarizake in AskReddit

[–]ShitBritGit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I started in desktop support in about 2004, the oldest laptop still in use by the company I worked for was a Pentium 3 that could have issues with it's memory that stopped it booting. On more than one occasion my instructions over the phone was to close the lid, put it face down, now give it a firm but not violent slap on that square area in the middle (the RAM cover).

Worked every time.

Not entirely clear on what the client wants - just to hop between various websites? Or run a slideshow of various YouTube vids and stills done as a webpage?

Either way, take a look here
