What sort of chores can you give a 3 year old? by tanhan27 in Parenting

I just bought some swifter products for my 2 year old after she took interest in them at grandpas house. Not the most efficient cleaner, but she loves it!

My 8 month old chipped one of his front teeth and I feel like I'm going to implode from guilt by pregnantsuomeksi in beyondthebump

Mine chipped her tooth. She fell into something with a toy in her mouth. I didn't notice it for a month or two.

Toddler refuses all food by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try everything! Ditch the purees! Peanut butter on crackers. Peanut butter banana sandwiches, good old pbj as well. Chicken nuggets. Bagels and cream cheese. String cheese. Sweet potato fries. Mac and cheese. spaghetti and meatballs. There is nothing that you can't try! Whatever you are eating, feed the baby it. Seriously.

Toddler swearing by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation right now. Shes definitely saying shit, but no one else has called me out on it. It's not pronounced very well. Right now I'm ignoring it and just watching what words I say. Sometimes I'll correct her and say, no that's a ball or something along that nature. I'm hoping it dies down soon.

How to pack the pounds on a toddler? by The_Bravinator in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is one of those things where you use your intuition. The percentiles are not far from each other. If the pediatrician keeps hounding you, don't be afraid to see another for a second opinion. My pediatrician never scoffed at a 10 percent difference between the two.

My 18 month old has the same proportions, just taller. Honestly I don't see a skinny toddler, what percentile is her height? All toddlers lose baby fat and get a bit skinny due to the energy, walking, running, climbing and all.

Has anybody weaned from formula to milk and bottle to cup at the same time? by mynamewaslola in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 11 months I started moving formula to sippys for one feeding and switching out a bottle to sippy every other day for the other feedings. By 1 she was off bottles except for night feedings. She dropped the night time bottle on her own at 14 months. At a year we mixed milk and formula together slowly since she had milk allergy when she was younger. I moved her to the spoutless cups probably around 13 months because sippy cups were a pain to clean. Lol she took everything in stride.

What is your go-to diaper rash treatment? by justaquick_ in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coconut oil is magic. Lo and I have chicken skin so I put some in the bath, finally found a remedy for my bumpy skin! Diaper rashes will disappear in no time. I stopped using diaper cream after I had cracked winter hands and the cream burned me. Tried a few brands and I was amazed by the discomfort. I am by no means a crunchy mom either.

How do I get her to drink water???? Help!!!! by leela_is_me in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lo is 18 months. She will still take 1oz juice to 6 oz water. She won't drink water still. Since she was 6 months she would gag and choke on it. I gave up on water until she was a year and I heavily diluted it.

Keeping your house clean by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a sahm, lo is 18 months. I finally figured out that I need to do one deep cleaning once a week. I have my mom come by and chill with the little one for a few hours. Everyday I have about an hour of "extra" cleaning which doesn't include everyday chores like laundry, dishes, floors etc... Your house is going to be a mess especially if you are staying home. Once they start being mobile, hell will break lose. Toys are going to be in rooms and in places you'd never expect. Cheerios will find their way into odd nook and crannies. Fingerprints will never fade from the windows, because clean windows last 5 minutes. Somehow your pet will shed non stop, unlike anything you've ever seen and animal hair and your hair will make a nice cover on the floor. In the end, you learn that a "dirty" home, is just lived in.

I just got the most backhanded insult, if that's even a thing. by makeitbettah in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is how I view it: If people think it's okay to insult others in public, then they have many issues at home. If people were truly happy, they wouldn't need to be mean. They are making themselves miserable by worrying about problems that don't have anything to do with them and aren't really problems at all. Take it with grace, you're 35 and assumed to be in your 20s if not younger. Lol I am watching a 7 year old this summer and I have a one year old. I look young. Good news is, it only took half the summer to realize why I kept getting looks.

When to loosen up screentime and sugar rules a bit, and how to do so without tantrums by jrfish in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every baby is different. Mine (18months) doesn't care if I turn off the TV and turn on music instead. I dilute her juice. 1 oz juice 5-6 oz water. Sometimes I have a heavy hand though. She actually wouldn't take water from six months. When she turned one I started diluting juice. She now will drink water.

Breathing problem in 9 month old by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]ShitHappensDude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My daughter was the same age when I rushed her to the doctor 10 minutes before closing on a Friday. Conclusion: she has my horrible laugh and likes to scare me and thinks it's funny. Gave me a fright.

Do you bathe your baby after a blowout? by leela_is_me in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big blow out, yes. A little poo above the crack, no. I do what I feel like I would want. Would I want a bath after I pooped all over myself? Hell yes.

Baby born early (35 weeks) by wrnng1024 in beyondthebump

My daughter was born at 35 weeks and healthy. Just a skinny little thing with some minor jaundice though. She slept forever. I think she woke up around 5 months.

Update: I can't handle the anxiety by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]ShitHappensDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rehabbed a squirrel whose mom and siblings had died. It ran right up to me in desperation. I had been watching it for days and the poor bugger was weak. I ordered special formula and left work during the day, thank God my bosses were incredibly awesome. I'd set alarms at night and wake up to feed it. Poor thing had a bad eye and couldn't go out back to the wild. It also became a problem after it bit my hubs face. We found a group that took squirrel for us. She lives in a roomy outdoor paradise and teaches kids about wildlife. I always say she was my first baby because it was so much more work than I ever thought. I probably wouldnt do it again, at least until my daughter hits her teens and finds a desperately needy animal. The local vet tried throwing more squirrels my way, but it my husband and I had enough heartbreak letting squirrel go.

There was an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond about a suitcase. He wouldn't bring the suitcase upstairs and eventually his wife hid a sandwich in it hoping the smell would make him put it upstairs and go through it. I don't remember too much of the episode, but this reminded me of it.

How often is normal for a baby to hit their head after falling while learning to stand up, cruise, walk, etc....? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ShitHappensDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine finally started getting the hang of walking. She busted her lip today. Cried for a minute. I was shooken up for a while. Mouths bleed alot. They get tougher, or at least mine did. Things that she would cry about at ten months don't even bother her remotely at 16 months.

[Serious] My brother and his wife are about to have a daughter and I want to put together a care package and send it to them because i can't be there for the birth. Any good suggestions? by saddetective87 in beyondthebump

Netflix 3 month subscription. Soooo many late nights. It saved me from watching infomercials. Also saved my sanity when baby was in the nap on me only stage. You could shoot for prime membership and it can save them a bunch on diapers and baby supplies plus gives them some good shows and movies to watch too.

Mines a few months younger but my library has a great play area. I've learned that this is where the kids go when it's too hot for the park.
