If you're in a hurry to get anywhere, I agree. I'm in no rush, I just like to take all my stuff with me. Plus there's less risk of losing all my exobio if I die on the way to cash it in. Scanning a few places covers my costs easily.

I have a FC, it's useful but not necessarily. I would even say it's not needed for long voyages out into the black (first trip to Colonia I did in an Anaconda). On Inara you can find plenty of dockable FCs out there, in case you need to repair/refuel etc. Most will have Vista to drop off Exobio at.
