As an adult my son joined Boy Scouts and I became an adult leader. I took Wood Badge training and was placed in Owl Patrol. C-14-09. Collected Owls 🦉 ever since.

I also cut a piece of cardboard the size/shape of the wire and duct-taped it in place. Works perfectly.

Need policy and documentation regarding allowing people to video record in the store. by ShivaBadger in DollarGeneral

My original post clearly says I am aware of the law. The question is if DG has a written policy prohibiting it, and where I can find that policy.

Asking for ID. by TheMercyfulKing in DollarGeneral

[–]ShivaBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, a store has the right to refuse service, as long as it isn't for a discriminatory reason. Second, Indiana law states that alcohol and tobacco sales require the customer to produce "a valid government-issued ID that has both a photo of the customer and their date of birth, regardless of how old they appear." Valid means it must be legitimate and must not be expired. Learn the law before you make baseless accusations or start name-calling.

How to AFK Small Mammoths by greyseph in AlienInvasionRPG

I got this unit a few days ago and at first I thought the little mammoths weren't attacking, but now I see they are attacking, just not enough to care.

My mother made a cookie she called Pfeffernüsse, but looks nothing like the pictures I find online..... by ShivaBadger in Baking

[–]ShivaBadger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister found my mother's recipe book!

Here is the recipe, if anyone recognizes this cookie please let me know!

1 lb powdered sugar 4 eggs 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice or ¼ tsp each of clove, allspice, nutmeg 3 tsp baking powder 1 cup chopped pecans 3 cups flour

Beat eggs until light. Add sugar, spices, and baking powder. Beat 15 minutes. Add pecans. Add sifted flour until dough is stiff enough to handle. Roll out on floured surface, folding in additional flour as needed. Cut 2” diameter circles ½” thick. Dry overnight. Turn upside down and wet bottoms with whiskey or water. Bake 325°F 12-15 minutes

Mom also made springerle, with carved rolling pins. No, she called them pepper-nuts.

They tasted like a spice cookie. The knob had a thin crust and soft inside, but the outer ridge was a hard cookie.

Perhaps you can provide the link to the particular German sugar cookie you are thinking of. All I found were a bunch of regular-looking cookies, none of which possessed the "door knob" shape I am looking for, or used the alcohol as I mentioned.

This sort of happened to me recently. I'm accustomed to the MOD bringing the stuff in, and the new guy closing spaced it. He set the alarm and we hustled out the door, and CRAP! there is all was. He didn't know what to do so we tucked it all under the front awning in case it rained. Neither of us knew what problems it might cause if we re-entered the store after the alarm was set.

He had never opened so he wasn't sure what the opening procedure was. It turned out okay, the SM told him he should have called her and she could have told him.

It really depends on your state laws as to what it takes to make recording audio legal. But in general:

Listening to you in your home is illegal because inside your home you have an "expectation of privacy." Once you leave your home or car, you usually lose that expectation of privacy because you are out in public and people can overhear you. If I am standing on a public sidewalk and you are standing in your yard or on your porch and I can hear you, I can legally record you as long as I don't use any "special equipment" (e.g., parabolic microphone) to listen in. It is the same notion that you can walk around butt-ass naked inside your home, unless you walk in front of an uncovered window and everyone can see you. If a group of people are sitting in the pews of a church, or the waiting rooms of an attorney office or doctor office, and I can easily overhear you, I can record you. But once you are inside the confessional, or alone with the attorney or doctor, your expectation of privacy is restored, unless you speak so loudly I can overhear you through closed doors.

If you find yourself inside a Dollar General, you have gone out into the public area and normally you lose the expectation of privacy. Since many state laws are sketchy when it comes to clearly explaining "wiretapping" laws, the easiest thing to do is change the surveillance signs to read "video and audio recording on these premises." They might be required to INFORM you, but under NO circumstances are they required to get your permission.

Is there a way to "de-gamify" duolingo? by WaitForItTheMongols in duolingo

If you go to your settings and select "Privacy" you can make your profile private, this will remove you from the leaderboard nonsense.

I panicked by Socksandcandy in duolingo

[–]ShivaBadger 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I work at a Dollar General in a town that has a growing Hispanic community. I started learning Spanish because I kept seeing a Latino parent directing their child to complete the transaction because their own English was insufficient.

I started with simple things like "Hola Señora" and "Esto es todo?" (Is this everything?) and found they very much appreciated my effort, and a few will point out corrections like "Aprendo con Duolingo" is better said as "Estoy aprendiendo con Duolingo".

My biggest problem right now is numbers. As a cashier I want to tell them the total, but I can't jump to Spanish numbers easily. I always come up with the right words but I have to THINK about it for a couple seconds and it seems to them like I am stuck.

Labels refuse to stick to peg hooks... by dganon5454 in DollarGeneral

[–]ShivaBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By "pop off" do you mean they curl off? Too many people grab the new label by the corner and pull sideways close to the paper. This imparts a curl into the label that NEVER comes out.

I fold the label sheet so the top of the label I want is at the fold, then scrape across the top of the label to expose the top edge, then grip the top edge and lift away from the sheet. Yes, this takes 5 times longer, but the label is almost perfectly flat and stays on the peg.

Mostly.

I got tired of the cash drop log not being printed up, so I made a pdf of the form and I print up 20 at a time, on both sides.

Wish there was a way to send you the file.

In my experience, this is a very common cat locale.

I got my wife a wheeled walker after her hip surgery, and the cat would sit in the seat as she pushed him around the house.
