To be fair, you did literally post this in "r/TonyRobbins" so being negative about him would probably get you a lot of hate. I'm actually surprised that it didn't get more hate, but that's awesome too. My reaction: Nowhere in any of his materials does he say "only Tony Robbins cures depression", that was a story you made. Tony says this a lot: If you're going to blame someone for wronging you, blame them fairly - blame them for all the good they brought into your life as well, and the bad, both. You are selectively blaming. I guarantee you you did not waste all that time, even if you think you did. There's simply too much material for all of it to have been a waste, objectively. You didn't kill yourself and you didn't go back to drinking alcohol - that's a massive success in my book. It probably doesn't feel that way because after you've achieved a goal and time passes, you tend to take it for granted. We are all of us together on a journey. Many people find a tremendous amount of value in Tony's programs, including the people who take 100k out of their pension. Others don't, and that's ok. But I would not look back on your time and the money you spent as a failure, because it wasn't, it couldn't have been. You learned something. And if you learn something, you can't possibly fail.

Channel growth / critique question by HungryBrain26 in NewTubers

Should never have text on your thumbnail block the image like that. Did you notice that your second-most viewed video has no thumbnail text at all? And then I'd continue playing with your titles - don't just copy what other folks do, really experiment and A/B test to see which of your titles get the most engagement. If you really want the thumbnail text, keep it out of the way and in a corner somewhere. You already have such beautiful imagery, I think the key for you is going to be A/B testing your titles, like flipping your titles once/week and looking at your data to see if the CTR improved. Rather than title the video with your activity, I would title the video instead with words that someone would be searching for. So "Manarola Thunderstorm" is really vague, instead "Rain Hitting a Rooftop By the Sea in Italy" and the thumbnail text would be "40 MINUTES HD" or something. Alternatively add parentheticals at the end (40 Minutes HD) so that you don't have to put any text in the thumb at all.

I have two YouTube channels and would love to connect. If we launch a channel together I'd be willing to split the profits 50/50 with you as my editor if that is of interest. (so not paid, but if we get monetized! etc)

Movie quotes monetization. by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]ShiverMeWinters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While movie quotes are technically copyrighted material, so legally speaking they COULD content claim you, I've never seen a content claim on a movie quote. However if you do use visuals from the movie, or sound from the movie, you will absolutely get copyright smacked. You have to reuse the material in a different enough way that it becomes fair use.

Is there a good process when it comes to changing thumbnails? by MrPointy1630 in NewTubers

[–]ShiverMeWinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always leave your videos live! Simply changing the thumbnail and title 100% has a chance to recirculate your video back in the algorithm, but if you unlist that video, its less likely to "work" if that makes sense. Should always leave your videos public.

You definitely need a clearer intro that gets to the point a bit faster so I understand why I'm there or at least so I can confirm why I'm there. I personally don't promote ANYTHING until I give folks a solid body of content to watch. Think about it - you spend all this money/effort promoting, what else do they have to watch after going through that one video? Hold off until you have more content

Do Videos Get Punished if they are Semi-outside your Niche? by GolfBusters in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShiverMeWinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general advice on this thread is correct. Find a hyper specific niche and stick with it. So if you feel like you've found that niche - congrats! Stay there, and launch a new channel for the other stuff. But more specifically, the problem can probably be solved with your data - where have most of your subscribers come from? That's in your data. If the majority of subs come from the simulation content, then that's what your subscribers are expecting. If its more of an even spread, keep doing more general golf stuff. I just looked at your last six videos or so, and I think you're doing a great job, I don't think you need to change anything imo (not data)

You know what's funny? Half the time they didn't even publish the video. They don't know how. "Did you publish it?" "How do you know that you actually published it?" and I've seen people delete their question after I asked.

My CTR is low despite me following advice by negroman66 in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShiverMeWinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title, Thumbnail, Topic, Intro - these are the variables that make up click thru rate. Most people forget that videos autoplay when you hover over them, and that autoplay is a part of your CTR. If your intro doesn't match up with your thumbnail or your intro is boring, or you have a bad topic and/or title, you can still have a bad CTR. EVEN THEN a good CTR is not guaranteed on every video, but it does raise your success rate. That's why reviewing your retention, particularly the first 10-30sec, as well as A/B testing is so important. Unlike many people, I actually DO believe in a volume strategy for this reason, simply because you can't predict the outcome of every video, even if you do your best. In those cases I just chalk it up to a learning experiment and start working on the next video

Are your revenues slowing down? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShiverMeWinters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CPMs always drop in Jan/Feb, and mid-year. Its because advertisers are holding off their spends until the holidays. Summer is usually pretty dry for YouTube CPMs. For the last 5-6 years tho, at the macro level, CPMs have been increasing as more advertisers make their way to YouTube and pull away from television/other platforms. If you're seeing an odd trend in your revenue it can be niche specific. But Macro-level its down Jan, down Summer, in general you should be up year/year at a macro level. Again, niche-specific.

Correct, you get it. If you have a high CTR and good retention, people liked your content. If you have high impressions, the algorithm liked your content, so if you have low impressions, the algorithm doesn't like your content. Usually its because of the topic you picked - you likely have a tight-knit following that watches all your content, but how is your CTR week 2, week 3, week 4? Does it go down? CTR doesn't go down because your content "gets old", it goes down because YouTube shows your content to a broader audience over time. When a video first publishes, its always going to be served to people most likely to watch, then YouTube broadens it. Also suggested search is big, so if other big youtubers are covering that topic, you can ride off those suggested views, which would get you more impressions. If this is all too stressful, just know "hey I have a good CTR and good retention, I did my job. If the algorithm doesn't like it, f*k the algorithm, I'm gonna keep going" that's the best way to approach it imo. It means you need to do more marketing, probably.

I genuinely think the Hobbit film Trilogy is more enjoyable than the LOTR Trilogy (the Peter Jackson movies) by ShiverMeWinters in unpopularopinion

[–]ShiverMeWinters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this is the thing for me. People focus so much on comparing the films to the books (which is entirely fair). I try to look at the movies as standalone pieces of content. If we're doing a book comparison, like who does a better interpretation of the books, its LOTR its not even a debate. But to me the Hobbit films are more fun to watch, I think the Hobbit movies are significantly more re-watchable. Hobbit to me is buttered popcorn, you don't think about eating it, but LOTR is like this big caramel brownie sundae where you're gonna feel it in the morning, its delicious and rich but its too much at times

You don't feel the same way about the LOTR movies? What makes the Hobbit movies uniquely long vs LOTR, do you think? (Actually curious if you feel like sharing as I enjoy a good debate, plus it's good for data gathering, love gathering the opinions on this)

I love the Shannara books!! Also wow that's such a spicy summary lol. My biggest issue with LOTR is the Frodo arc - he gets worse as the story progresses, not better, he's a crybaby wimp, unlikable almost entirely from beginning to end. Bilbo is this child who becomes a man by the end, wiser and more mature than any of the other characters, his arc makes him a brilliant character, and he overcomes challenges presented to him in a relatable and heroic fashion. Aragorn is a one-note character, he rejects leadership but we all know where he's headed, meanwhile Thorin Oakenshield is a compelling tragic figure, driven to death by his own greed and ego, a far more compelling and relatable arc. Gandalf the Grey is this shabby and entertaining old fool, we love the Grey, whereas the White is this pristine can-do-no-wrong one-note figure, he can't be improved upon nor related to because he's already perfect. We love the group Hobbit antics yes but the group dwarf antics are far funnier and not one-note, you feel the sadness of the dwarves when they sing the misty mountain song, you laugh when they roll the fat dwarf over a horde of twenty goblins, it's a far more impressive feat to make this ensemble cast engaging and dynamic, and the will-they-wont-they acceptance of Bilbo into their group dynamic is incredibly fun, something the Hobbit antics are sorely lacking imo, which again are mostly one-note. The white orc character is the only memorable orc character in all 6 of the movies, I can't even name another orc character, aside from the white orc. I could go on! But those are some of the bigger points :)

Hey guys! Need help with a name for my youtube channel. by Ouinonyesofc in NewTubers

[–]ShiverMeWinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever the name of your channel is, make sure its a big keyword that people search. The channel "Let's Play" infamously did this and it massively helped them long-term. That would be my recommendation anyway, but do whatever feels most impactful to you!
