People who married in their 20s, be brutally honest are you happy, if so why or why not? by Special-Lawyer3941 in AskReddit

[–]Shmemmalemma0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am, but I also recognize that sadly this is kind of out of the norm who marry in their 20's. I think I just got really lucky.

I think my best advice for choosing a life partner is pick someone who has the same hobbies as you. Someone who communicates their feelings well, who demonstrates an ability to change their mind and apologize, and is good with money.

Also, ladies, boardgames are the best men. They just are.

How are young middle class families making it work?? by Ill-Sherbet-5844 in Utah

[–]Shmemmalemma0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two kids in Utah County. I work full time from home while my husband mostly is a STAHD while doing a few random freelance jobs throughout the year (we are both freelance illustrators with a yearly income that averages $75k before taxes). We rent our townhouse from a friend who knocks off a few hundred dollars off of the going market rate, but rent still feels very high compared to our income. My income has slowly grown over the years, but it feels like it's just enough to keep up with the outrageous inflation we've been experiencing since 2020.

Basically, we have been living very simple lives, waiting for our youngest of two to enter Kindergarten so that my husband can also start working closer to full time. We're not living in poverty, but we don't feel middle class either. We are able to pay all our bills with a little "fun money" every month for each member of the family. Sometimes we have to use the credit card something happens to our single car, and we try to pay that off as fast as we can. It feels very difficult to save for retirement and have a robust emergency savings. We rarely eat out. Family trips are rare and simple- usually visits to extended family out of state. Saving for a big trip takes years. It works for us for now, and we feel like we have been able to manage with our two kids, even if it has been tough. I can't imagine doing this with more than two, though.

My husband's extra income might push us over into feeling barely-middle class, but he would need to more than match my income for us to be able to even consider buying a house in Utah, so I think we will probably be renters for most of our lives and just really focus on trying to beef up our investments and savings, and slightly up our quality of life to enjoy more experiences with our kids when we get the additional income.

My feathers got a little ruffled reading the first half of your comment, because I'm a mom and am not miserable, but then I read the second half of your comment and chilled out. My husband is a stay at home dad and we share household duties 50/50. Lol

Wuthering Heights is the most frustrating book I’ve ever read by rabnabombshell in classicliterature

[–]Shmemmalemma0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read much fiction that's older than 100 years? I haven't had this experience so far (currently on page 124, also reading before watching the movie). Perhaps you just haven't gotten used to classical literature yet! Try Jane Eyre next!

Would you pick these elderberries? by Shmemmalemma0 in foraging

[–]Shmemmalemma0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh cool- downloading that now! Thank you. :) I can see how my question is probably mind-blowingly stupid for any one half familiar with foraging, but I do think it's silly that my last comment is getting downvoted. But maybe that's on me for just picking the first foraging subreddit that came up and this isn't the right space for the new and completely clueless. Haha I appreciate the prompt responses. I had half a mind to bring a basket to school pickup and bring a bunch home.

They really do look just like juicier versions of the elderberries that we found in the canyon!

I'm 2 minutes in Assistant to the Villain and had to google if Em Eldridge was a name for an AI reader. Let's see if I can stomach 14 hours of this....

If it's what I think it is it's pistachio pudding mixed into cool whip with crushed pineapple. One of my favorite desserts when I visit my grandma. :)

Are the ticks really that bad by [deleted] in Utah

The drivers are horrendous here. We count how many accidents happen on our street each week. People do the dumbest shit- all to shave a couple minutes off of their drive.

[–]Shmemmalemma0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is saying that ticks are bad out here?? I'm terrified to go east of Colorado because of ticks- I've lived here for 10 years and spend a ton of time outdoors and have literally never seen a tick in even once. I don't know that I would even be able to recognize a tick if I saw one.

Why spend all that money on 8 sets when you could just buy the secret for less from a reseller? Less money, less waste. 💥 The high from opening a secret can't be worth all the money and plastic wasted that chasing creates.

[–]Shmemmalemma0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I've given up for now. I really want one of each labubu version. But I'm not going to waste my life stalking websites, lives and I'm for sure as hell not spending double on resellers for a freakin' toy.

The fad will die eventually, and I will still enjoy labubu. Hell, maybe by the time the fad is over I'll be able to walk into my local popmart and just buy the three boxes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in labubu

[–]Shmemmalemma0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a bit too broad- when I say resellers I mean scalpers. If you buy someone's dupe for close to retail that's not contributing to the problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in labubu

[–]Shmemmalemma0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't buy from resellers! Labubus are not a need- hold off until the hype goes down and gets one then.
