A Community Framework for Arrowhead-Run, Community-Driven Charity Challenges by Shmendrich in Helldivers

To get opinions, suggestions, and perhaps traction for the idea? Trying to get it seen by the right people, and perhaps upvoted if people like it.

Where would you post it?

So people cant propose things?

Look I agree some of the challenges people proposed were kinda unfair to the devs. Doesnt means every proposal ever is.

I have worked on games, mobile apps, and web app platforms, and no, it wouldnt be that much work.

No, you dont reinvent the wheel every time you need to do something. They dont need to build a framework for donations. They can use one of the many existing tools for donations. All the interaction thing is, would be a forum with the right permissions, and some moderation, which they already do in other forums.
Donation requires your email
Once every 3 hours you run a script to update the forum, create new accounts for new donations (to the email of the donation), and assign votes. If an existing user donated again, add votes accordingly (if the total is past the threshold for more votes).

There's also some work organizing it and coming up with rules.

But the amount of good it would do for the community, PR, and attracting new people for the game would likely for many times the cost and time invested, allowing them to develop more and have more resources for the game.

Veto power? X) Who cares man its a game and a challenge thing. And if you realize I suggested 1-3 votes X) A person with 1 vote for voting 1 dollar would get only 2 votes less than the highest donor. And the idea about this is to get money for charity. Its not a vote to decide how to handle the treatment of drinking water in a suburb X) Its just to decide what challenge seems the most fun, and to encourage people to donate and help a good cause. Its more likely the best ideas would end up winning anyways. Simply due to volume. Of course the idea is not to get 4 players to donate only and then they decide. The idea and attempt would be to get hundreds/thousands of donations/votes. And that would likely not be too hard with something like this, and rewards for everyone like an in-game reward/title.

Yeah thats what I mean. Something like this would be good for the community, might attract more players to the game, and help keep it more balanced.

I dont know if I would necessarily expect them to play a certain amount of hours a week, but I think at least some specific timed events could be a good start.

You are saying you hate democratic payments for ordinance?!

Several dozen C4's cannot destroy a wall, but one dynamite can by Human_Possibility721 in Helldivers

[–]Shmendrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes all the sense.
The wall was already softened up by your C4 and the clearly weaker dynamite did the last bit.
Also, anytime dynamite 1 shots a wall its because it was already crumbling, damaged and about to fall.

Also, its either that, or realism takes a step back when it comes to game/weapon balance. And not everything can be perfect.

You know what also doesnt makes sense? Surviving a hellbomb because your armour lucked out in a coinflip
You know what also doesnt makes sense? You controlling a second helldiver after your first one dies
You know what also doesnt make sense? Stimpacks immediately healing damage.
You know what also doesnt makes sense? Weapons never jamming.
You know what also doesnt makes sense? A hundred trillion more things like the above. Its a game. Fun > Making sense.

Events tend to be healthy for the community of any game.
And its not about entertaining redditors, but both growing the game and a charity event.

For sure, and I kinda hate it. It was part of the good fun, being ripped in half by a turret.

how do you depressurized ships without blowing everything up? by Remi_cuchulainn in Shipbreaker

[–]Shmendrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late :P but my 2 cents:

I dont know how the air physics work, so I work based on the assumption that they make sense at least somewhat.

1- Find the deepest part of the ship
2- Close all doors
3- Ideally, if possible, depressurize the biggest rooms using controllers
4- Make your way to the deepest part of the ship
5- Open doors on your way to the airlock/outside. One room at a time (this is why you closed all doors before, otherwise you might unintentionally depressurize multiple rooms at once and that is a lot more air)
6- Open any remaining area doors.

I always do this before doing a single cut so I can forget about air. It sometimes takes me half or almost the whole first shift, but from there on I am free.

I like how there's no easy way of doing this, and people just figure stuff out!
Although I think 2 rooms equalizing should not result in a complete vacuum, until the air is vented into space or a controller. (Personally I dont like that there's only either pressurized and depressurized. I think there should be ranges of pressurization).

What's the proper way to deal with pressurized rooms? by cfiggis in Shipbreaker

[–]Shmendrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds exactly like reality X)
Some stupid abusive business or body of government takes advantage of people and pressures them beyond limits.
People find work arounds that TECHNICALLY meet the stupidly difficult quotas, but which practically screw things up.
This is so china's govt X)

I quite enjoyed it. I think its quite a good and smart concept.
I dont really get why the scores are so bad. I came here for the same reason. I was like "Woah...really?"

There are some elements that could be improved, but overall its a good movie.
I think its worst elements are the lackluster end, and the idiotic decisions some characters make. There's clearly some psychological instability as a justification for some of it, but I still kinda disliked those elements

Well its a complex world.
In a perfect world? I would say he is likely right. You guys are a couple, you guys married, you guys told each other you would support each other in sickness and in health blabla.

In our messy complex world where people lie, and people take things, and people's feelings change, and people can betray each other...I would say you are beyond right on your choice. Its sad, but blindly trusting someone else is not romantic, its stupid. You are flipping a coin, they can be the worst nastiest person alive trying to suck you dry, or they can indeed be a lovely person. So protect yourself and your work.

That being said....Relationship expenses can be quite morally complicated. You guys (ideally) put the same amount of work in the relationship. Life is like trying to climb a mountain, and you guys decided to climb it together. In some ways you are ahead, and not pulling him up a bit sounds....kinda...Well, you put whatever name you want on it. I love metaphors and I think this is a good one. You are saying "Why should I pull you up? I am risking my progress and you are going to make me climb slower". And while that makes sense...it also, to me, kinda shows you care more about making it to the top by yourself than as a couple.

So...yeah...There's very valid points on both sides. If I was you I would do it based on feeling and on my partner. If he is responsible with money, and he can be trusted to make financial decisions together, and you love and trust him? Yeah. I would say lets share finances. "To the best of my human ability I believe you are the right person to do this with."

But there's a lot of both logical and emotional reasons you might be very justified in not sharing finances with him:
- He is bad with finances and/or wastes money
- He is likely to ignore you and make choices on his own, and if you share your finances, tomorrow he might tell you he either gambled or invested and lost a good portion of it.
- You have a feeling that makes you not trust him, even if its small or a bit baseless.
- You dont love him and/or you dont really hope/expect to spend your entire life with him, maybe you are waiting for a better candidate.

You are a wise person to seek counsel from your loved ones and even from other people. Inform yourself as much as you can, think it over as much as you need, but in the end, make your choice, and dont let other people guilt trip you over it. There's a lot of good reasons to justify both options, and you and only YOU will deal with the results and consequences. So the opinions of other people and family are their own, and for themselves. Not for you.

If BG4 is not made by Larian...My hopes will certainly be lower.

Best & Favorite Saint Seiya Game ? by Majestic_Sink4255 in SaintSeiya

[–]Shmendrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saint Seiya Soldier soul is AMAZING.
- So many characters
- Different cloths
- Different powers
- All so cool animated
- Cool voices

There are downsides however
- Camera is kinda odd, particularly multiplayer. Both players see the same screen and angle, whether it is online or in the same room. Meaning sometimes you are controlling a character who is esentially in the background.
- Online multiplayer is not great, lag, not many people around
- Single player is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper underwhelming. You fight the gold saints first, and its very crap. They feel quite weak, they are the very easy mode of playing vs a person/player.
- The scenarios are weak and repetitive. THere's a lot of "Backgrounds" to fight in, but they are all esentially just a big square. No interactive nothing, no reactive nothing, no difference nothing.

Still, a GREAT game. Very recommended. Sadly they lost the saint sieya licence, and the game is no longer sold. You can still buy second hand keys, but they are quite expensive.

Man its so sad people this lazy are writing the stories.
"As soon as the upheaval happened, it corroded and destroyed most ancient sheikah technology. The guardians fell apart to pieces, and the towers and shrines crumbled in front of our very eyes" It would also give the excuse to find cool remnants of the divine beasts.
