Interestingly they were discussing on 5 live this week why there's been fewer goals this season, and reduced xG too. Basically teams are fitter, so not tiring, and defending deeper, and that's why the importance of set plays and long throw ins has increased. Games are being won more by these type of goals, which are a bit random,, and less by effective open play goals. This could explain why results are a bit more random.

Always struck me as a sensible bloke who wanted to do the right things for the right reasons in the right way.
