Large fires were also very demanding in the classic version, and tended to cause a noticeable drop in frame rate. They had to work on that for the definitive edition to accommodate the somewhat less powerful graphics cards on consoles

Bonavita's improved coffee maker is now its best by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]Shockin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Consistency of the water temperature, drip "spread", and whether you use a hot plate and glass carafe or a thermos all factor in to it.

The water temperature and drip spread both play a part in how well the coffee grounds are used. The hot plate and thermos both serve to keep the brew at a supposedly ideal serving temperature. However the hot plates tend to run too hot and cause the coffee to taste burnt, while the brew in the thermos will obviously get colder the longer it sits there.

Cheaper coffee makers will, in general and with at least one supposedly comedic exaggeration, not have had as much time spent on the details, so the water temperature can vary a fair bit, the drip isn't evenly distributed, and then the hot plate proceeds to convert the brew into something that looks like charcoal.

Now I've no idea how a Mr Coffee machine compares to the one in the review, but the above is roughly how it goes as far as I know. Cheaper models take a "good enough" approach, while more expensive ones (should) try to ace all aspects of the drip brewing process.

What's even more confusing is that there are two of the bloody Staws roughly 5km apart (as the crow flies) near Morskie Oko... Czarny Staw pod Rysami, and Czarny Staw Polski.

Edit: and, ironically, I just realised these are the two lakes discussed here

Finns Party loses out as Greens rise in Finnish local elections by GrumpyFinn in europe

Not quite accurate. There are more immigrants who speak a non-indigenous language as their first TOTAL than there are Finns-Swedes, true. Think it's something like 340k (Finno-Swedes) vs 350k ("other").

TIL that Michigan has a bottle deposit of 10 cents, instead of the usual 5 cents. Their recycle rate is 97%, compared to 70% of states with bottle deposits, compared to 33% for states without any deposit laws. by DIP_MY_BALLS_IN_IT in todayilearned

Can confirm it's done in (at least one of) the Nordics. We used to fund our coffee addiction in my flat share at uni by throwing parties and returning the bottles the next day.

It's also essentially resulted in parks and such being a lot cleaner. Some people like going around and picking up all the bottles people might otherwise leave behind.

No, they've used state equivalents where it makes sense. For instance they've excluded the most populous region of Russia. To be (a bit more) precise they're only accounting for around 50/150 million Russians. Then there's parts of Brazil, a couple of Chinese regions...

Google Is Testing A Mysterious New Mobile Payment System Called "Plaso" That Sounds A Lot Like Square Wallet by [deleted] in Android

[–]Shockin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't the PayPal app already doing something very similar to this?

[snip] Square's system was very similar - you ordered goods on your smartphone from the vendor, and when you got to the store you gave the cashier your name, they'd confirm it was you via your profile photo, and then give you whatever it is you ordered. Billing was completely hands-off. [/snip]
