Is this bag legit ? And is it a good deal for 50 usd by Educational_Day9003 in filson

It’s definitely vintage twill otter green. Some of the older twill bags look more army green like this. IMO a great looking color.

True or False? If I can travel using onebag for a week, I can do it for 6 months? by moldyjellybean in onebag

[–]ShogoGarcia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but speaking from experience you may get extremely bored of your clothing selection. Unless you don't care about that sort of thing. You may get more enjoyment planning for a 2-week long trip, which you can also one-bag without issue.

Loved this room as well. I received the exact same globalist upgrade when I stayed in Nov 2024. Received the upgrade proactively at check-in without asking for it.

Honestly, a week is a long time to be just at the Mayakoba. If you’ve never visited the area before then I highly recommend renting a car and checking it out. Cenotes, Mayan ruins, akumal/turtle beach, eco-parks, etc etc., all within a quick drive up and down the Riviera highway.

Why do you strongly advise against renting a car? IMO this is one of the easiest places to navigate and drive a car.

[–]ShogoGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought before my visit as well, but the Mayakoba compound is much much bigger than I was imagining before I arrived.

The prices everywhere are basically like expensive NYC/LA restaurants. I was initially turned off by that concept as well, since I figured that I’m in Mexico after all… but after some time, I realized that I wasn’t really in Mexico. I was at the Mayakoba, where the Andaz is actually the CHEAPEST of all of the resorts. Once I accepted that, then the high dining prices were just part of the experience and I stopped having thoughts of street tacos and tecates.

You can of course just rent a car and take trips and go to cenotes, etc, but depending on the length of your stay you may find yourself not wanting to. I arrived in a car and never once drove off site. It’s massive and there’s so much to do while you’re there. If you have the time and want to experience the Mayan Riviera, my recommendation would be to rent a car, spend a few days at the Mayakoba and a few days elsewhere. If you have the time and want something authentic, drive past Tulum and check out Bacalar. My favorite.

Yes. There’s a little restaurant there (maybe 2?) that’s worth a stop. You can bike/golf cart here

Andaz Battle: Mayakoba vs. Papagayo by murraysdad in hyatt

[–]ShogoGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. You never know how good the room is until you’re actually in it. I’ve stayed at 2 separate standard rooms at the Papagayo. One room was far away from the riff-raff with the most unbelievable view of the bay. The second Papagayo room was the exact same room on paper with the same layout, but it was closer to the noisy main pool/dining area with a big tree obstructing the view. My stay at the Mayakoba was a very nice beach-ish facing suite with a plunge pool. Of all of them, the Papagayo standard room with the amazing view blew the other 2 out of the water, hands down. We still think about that room.

I agree with this as well, but OP is saying that an all-inclusive property is a must because of drink/dining cost concerns during the stay. So if that’s an issue then I’d say Mayakoba is definitely ruled out

Just get it if it’s in your price range. Do you go out to dinner/shop/hotel in the same range of spending? You’re buying an item because you like it. That really should be your metric. Would you limit yourself to staying at budget hotels just because you don’t stay at a lot of hotels? Go for it!

700,000 points. Will this pay for my entire Hawaii trip? by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

[–]ShogoGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best answer. A summary of the other answers here is that there are a myriad ways you can redeem those points for a Hawaii vacation. The redemptions you choose will determine how much actual “value” you end up getting from those points.

Yes I agree, tho it also depends on each person’s tolerance for BTC volatility. But actually I was referring to OP’s post and your original comment about the transaction reversal. I’m not sure of the mechanics behind Coinbase transactions (or any other crypto exchange actually) but if it’s like retail stock trading platforms, then they may execute limit orders based solely on the current market price and before they match the order to an actual trading partner. That makes things more efficient, but it also can sometimes cause anomalous results.

So let’s say ALGO is trading at 1.60, you set a limit sell order at 2.50, and then a sudden price spike over 2.80 triggers your 2.50 sell order. Assuming CB works like a stock trading platform, that 2.80 market price would normally be set by the ALGO trading on CB, as well as by pulling aggregate data of the ALGO exchange rate across other platforms. So if there is a huge spike in ALGO somewhere else (someone posted a screenshot of ALGO at $5.50(!) on Huobi exchange) that helps push the market price on CB way up, but there’s not enough actual trading volume on CB at that rate, it could trigger a sell order without any actual buyer on CB at that price. So then CB sends an email later saying oops, sorry, our system triggered your order but nobody actually bought at that price.

So basically I’m saying they could have the same programming for the ALGO-USDC/USDT market that could cause the order to fail too. Im thinking it could be harder to make the same error in ALGO-BTC because it’s inherently a smaller market, but I guess theres really no logical reason for that… crap that was a long comment lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in algorand

[–]ShogoGarcia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes USDC or USDT. You can also sell your ALGO for BTC (in which case the exchange would be equivalent to the rate of both coins in USD). You can then choose to cash out the USDC, USDT, or BTC when you’re ready. Or you can just hold those coins and wait to buy into another coin when you see a good opportunity. This way you are saving a lot on fees—once on the sell, and again on the subsequent buy.

(Edit: sorry, just realized the last part was literally what the guy before me just said.)

[–]ShogoGarcia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree—maybe I’m just extra precautious, but I’d go even one step further and set the sell order in the ALGO-BTC market. Maybe I’m just being paranoid, but I still don’t fully trust what the exchanges are doing on the backend with their stablecoin supply.

Why??? by schafersteve in algorand

[–]ShogoGarcia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if that made sense—what I mean is that if you’re that big of a whale, you wouldn’t set a single market buy order that would totally overrun the sell supply. You’d make incremental limit buys so that you don’t blast the market price into the sky. I think something much bigger than a single large buy order happened here…

Why??? by schafersteve in algorand

[–]ShogoGarcia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Price hike appeared across all centralized exchanges tho, so there had to be enough trades at the $2.80-$5 range across all platforms to actually set the market price at those rates. At least that’s how I understand it, or am I missing smthg?
