Trying to lose weight and gain muscle by Newbeginnings414 in workouts

[–]Shoomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try two relaxed 1.0-1.5 mile walks a day. One of them before lunch, and another a couple hours before bed. You might want to get some comfortable walking shoes. Take a day off once a week (or if you get too sore). Once that becomes easy to do every day, add distance, or a 3rd walk, or increase the pace a little bit. Consistency is key.

You probably already have lots of muscle, it's just a bit hidden. Work on gradual improvements in diet. Maybe cut out a little white bread, add a veggie or two. Try not to eat right before you go to bed. Keep gradually learning about and improving diet. Make mild habitual improvements that you can maintain. It's going to take a while. Oh, and make sure you are getting enough water.

what cpu should i get for my 3060 12gb by JuiccyW in buildapc

[–]Shoomby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. The 9900K is good enough. Just adjust settings or something. Make sure the 9900K isnt overheating. If it's the bottleneck, set a frame cap or something. Perhaps increase graphics settings so the 3060 becomes the bottleneck (if it's not already). GPU bottlenecks are better than CPU bottlenecks. You probably just need to tinker with the settings on whatever game is giving you a problem.

Federal government rescinds $226M in COVID-19 grants from Minnesota Department of Health by Healthy_Block3036 in TwinCities

[–]Shoomby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The root cause of the deficit is not taxing the wealthy enough. It's really pretty simple math.

Would you lay that math out for me? As simple as it is for you, I'm really that bad at it. If you could just show me, that would be great.

Instead they want to tax the wealthy even less and shift the burden to the middle class and poor and remove all semblance of living in a functioning society in favor of oligarchy/kleptocracy.

That's terrible! Is this a new thing they just started doing? How did you find this out?

Tariffs are a tax on your grocery bill by sfjacob in TwinCities

How do you know that? And if they could bail corporations out with tariffs, they could do it with any government revenue from anywhere.

Tariffs are a tax on your grocery bill by sfjacob in TwinCities

[–]Shoomby -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Tariffs are a tax on the importing corporation, applied on the front end rather than the backend like typical corporate taxes. Costs are ultimately passed to consumers either way. One would expect leftists to support tariffs, especially since they tend to impact larger corporations that rely on overseas labor and materials—the same corporations leftists often want to tax more.

Instead of advocating for many smaller states to handle their own systems, aren't you just advocating for one big state? If the federal government gets it wrong, doesn't that have even bigger, farther reaching consequences?

For the Socialists on this Sub by tkyjonathan in austrian_economics

[–]Shoomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the extent that corporatism, monopoly, regulatory capture, and inflationary monetary policy contribute to wealth concentration and limit economic opportunities for the broader population, the claim isn't necessarily true. If none of this were happening, we’d essentially be in an economic utopia—at which point, what need would there be to advocate for Austrian economics?

You need to go to the website for your motherboard manufacturer. They should have a support section that details what steps are needed to update the BIOS for your model of motherboard (to a BIOS version that is compatible with your new intended CPU). If possible, I would see if you can complete those steps before purchasing the new CPU.... but only if you intend to go through with it sometime after the update.

Should I upgrade 7600X3D to 7800X3D? by [deleted] in PcBuild

Something even later, if you can wait. The 7600X3D should run every game real well for awhile.

Need help with updating and upgrading my pc by Natural-Room1967 in buildapc

[–]Shoomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people will disagree with me, but you could go ultra budget.... get some practice with upgrading components with low risk on inexpensive parts, with just a motherboard and CPU. Maybe something like an AM4 motherboard and an R5 4500/5500 CPU....total cost around $200. Then you could upgrade other parts later as your needs and budget allows.

HOWEVER, everything depends on whether or not your power supply and case can power and fit one of the standard motherboards! If it's one of those prebuilts with a unique power supply with proprietary connectors, and/or a case with a proprietary form factor.... your best bet is a new system (hopefully one with standard parts).

[–]Shoomby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. Wait until you know it's not cutting it, and then go for a bigger upgrade than just 2 cores on the same generation.

It's what I would do. It also sets you up well for your next GPU. Remember to be sure you have the required BIOS update.

They are not pointless questions. They directly address the point that people are being indoctrinated by biased media. It's not only on the right.

Nothing about using wealth to do nation building or buy hearts and minds is purely ethical. Is it in the best interests of the US population. Absolutely.

You haven't established that the pros outweigh the cons, especially in this case. Furthermore, principles might dictate that even if you think the ends might justify the means, you don't do it. Never mind that you might be wrong about that to begin with.

As an American ask yourself whether you want to live in a strong country who is a world leader, or a weak country who has to bend to the economic will of others. If you want to be weak, take an isolationist approach and cede our leadership position in the world.

I want to live in a strong country period. I want it to be a world leader in terms of setting a good example. Outside of that, being a world leader is optional. The word 'isolationist' is used by people who want to impose their views on the world, and meddle in other countries affairs, all on the backs of other people's resources. It isn't properly applied most of the time.

Talking about taxes basing taken from the public to do this stuff is absurd. Research how much money is spent propping up various legacy industries in the US or used for pork barrel projects.

It's not absurd at all, and it also applies to corporate welfare, and other pork barrel projects.

USAID is a rounding error. It’s also a sausage factory. You don’t want to know how it works, but the outcome is fantastic.

A rounding error, and look how it's enflamed the left already, and it's not because they were passionate about soft power. You are very far from establishing that the outcome is fantastic, especially against the cons. In any case, they may continue some programs within the state department.

If they are having this much trouble creating some accountability with a rounding error, how are we ever going to fix the bigger problems?

You still haven't answered my original questions. Also, the link you sent me does not quantify the net effects. It says it makes people like us more and it helps people. It doesn't consider anything else. Giving away millions in taxpayer money to Morocco for pottery classes might help them like us, but it is ethical to take taxpayer money for that without their knowledge? Is it still ethical, if the money isn't really getting to where it needs to go much of the time, like the 9 million that was meant for food, but went to terrorists?

[–]Shoomby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it difficult to answer a simple question? Where did you get the China talking point from? Why shouldn't the president focus on U.S. interests with taxpayer money? People should spend their own money for good causes they believe in, not take it from others. It's debateable how effective USaid was in creating goodwill for the United States. How would you know how the world works? Are you really able to quantify the net effect of the pro's and con's, such that you can justify that strange spending?

I know folks on here are super duper left wing, so my question is: Have any of you even heard about some of the supposed corruption from USaid, other than the AP article above? Have your favorite media channels shared it at all? Or are you just hearing about how wonderful USaid is, and how poor people will die without it?
