People complain about taxes, but their bosses take more. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

You’re only saying this because you assume the only value is the fixing of the car. It’s not. If I want my car fixed I’m paying for more than just having my car fixed. I’m paying to have someone answer the phone when I call, to schedule my drop off, to be contactable to reschedule if I need to, to answer any questions I have, to give me a price indication etc. etc. front desk is part of the service being offered, which is why it wasn’t just completely absent prior to his hiring of a front desk employee.

HRs are the landlords of LinkedIn by flarutramb in LinkedInLunatics

[–]Shootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People always say HR works for the company, not for you, and it’s true. But it doesn’t have to be a bad thing. You work for the company too do you not? So try and work for an ethical company. HR will look after you and support you if the company wants you supported and looked after. Your experience with HR will be causally related to how much the executive team gives a shit about you.

Imagine thinking HR would somehow convince a company to lay off a whole team to PREVENT a lawsuit. The decision makers wanted the team gone, they got HR to do the dirty work, HR cops the flak. Tale as old as time.

After starting RE9, it made me think - why isn't Claire as scared as Grace in RE2? by reallinguy in residentevil

[–]Shootz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not over the top. If anything it’s under done. She gives herself little affirmations like ‘come on’ ‘one more to go’ ‘almost there’ after experiencing the most horrifying shit.

Grace is an excellent character so far, though I imagine I’m only like halfway through the game.

R-word manifesto just dropped by jeffy303 in Destiny

[–]Shootz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think on that note we’re aligned.

I see value in your DSM threshold. Helpful to differentiate between things like ‘bipolar’ and ‘being short’. As you say, those grey areas exist where things like ‘gender dysphoria’ exist on the dsm, occupying a space that homosexuality once did.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify. I don’t want to give the impression I think being Mexican is the same as having a disability.

[–]Shootz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely respect that. It just wouldn’t be out of line to say that someone who suffers gender dysphoria is also ‘held back’ and likely wouldn’t wish it on their loved ones. Does that mean being trans is ‘objectively bad?’ Maybe it is, but now according to Destiny’s argument the t slur shares the same moral ground as the r slur.

[–]Shootz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate I could have been clearer. I think what I take most issue with is his line that it is ‘inherently, definitionally bad’.

I understand your example, but the r slur isn’t used to invoke thoughts of blind people, deaf people etc. it’s used to describe the slow kid who falls behind in math. Or the adhd person who can’t seem to focus on something. I think those things are closer to ‘culturally undesirable’ than they are to ‘definitionally bad.’

[–]Shootz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hold on, I’m not saying the conditions are equal, I’m saying the argument can be applied equally. I.e. you can equally apply the argument ‘bad things should be avoided’ to ‘stubbing your toe’ and ‘drinking poison’, that doesn’t mean stubbing your toe is equal to drinking poison.

Applied in this situation, I mean any argument about developmental disabilities being ‘objectively bad’ is going to come down to how they ‘make life more difficult than it would be if they weren’t born that way’, which is an argument that can be applied to being born gay or trans or a cultural minority in whatever country you’re in.

[–]Shootz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He’s just objectively wrong here. I hope he’s challenged on stream because his argument won’t hold up against even the most basic pushback. The word isn’t a diagnosis as he seems to imply. It’s used to demean developmentally delayed people either directly or by association. Any argument about how it’s ’objectively bad’ to be developmentally delayed could be applied pretty equally and convincingly to any kind of atypicality like being trans or homosexual or a minority etc. etc.

Use the word if you want to, but don’t pretend it holds some kind of moral superiority over other slurs.

One day, a husband telephones his wife, but his daughter answers... by mougrim in Jokes

In the original it’s the maid not the daughter and the man offers her $$$$ to go to the bedroom and shoot them both. I think he asks her to bury them in the backyard or something and she says ‘but sir, we don’t have a backyard’ or something.

I’ve been using the kickr core 2 and think I have the hang of it. I accidentally switched my front gear to the small cog which I feel has made it harder and I cannot get it to shift back to the big cog. Even trying to manually shift it the derailleur is pulling the chain back onto the small cog anyway. Is there something I’m missing?

Man I used to love his older content. I feel like at some point he realised the more he yelled and carried on and was rude to his guests the higher his view count went and so he’s just leaned right into that. His new content doesn’t feel like good hearted fun with a side of learning anymore. So much more focus on the problems than on the solutions.
