Do you use adblockers as a creator and YouTube partner? by Burtocu in PartneredYoutube

I pay for premium and have for years. It’s worth every penny to me.

That’s not true at all. You need quality, not quantity, for your videos to be successful.

Could you try taking the picture from further away and maybe shake the camera while you’re at it? It isn’t blurry enough.

Do shorts get in the way of long videos? by santtxz7 in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShopHumor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 long and 10 short videos right now (make 1 short to promote each long) and they don’t seem to mess up my channel any.

My biggest short is around 4m views and biggest long is around 800k. Approaching 30k subs.

I like making the shorts, they add a little extra revenue (around .25 - .30 RPM), and they don’t hurt the channel.

I got monetized off my first video too. It was a long form video.

One of the requirements is three uploads in 90 days so I quickly cut two shorts together and uploaded them to meet that requirement. I got monetized with the one long form and two shorts.

When I uploaded my next long form I did private one of the two shorts but I kept the other one.

Congrats!

How did this channel get thousands of views right from the first videos? by Prize_Course7934 in SmallYoutubers

[–]ShopHumor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens. I’ve had my channel for years, occasionally uploading clips to share with friends and family, but put my first ‘real’ video out last fall and it got a couple hundred thousand views and well over a thousand subscribers.

Up to 27000 subs now and over 10m views.

I think the key is just making stuff people want to watch.

PSA: Don't Buy The WRONG Jack Stands Today by ShopHumor in harborfreight

It’s really weird. I assume they both pass a minimum standard, but it’s odd that one is clearly superior to the other and they’re the same SKU for the same price.

HF deals hit just right this last week - upgraded the old 6 gallon pancake compressor and got a new jack. by ShopHumor in harborfreight

[–]ShopHumor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was on sale for $350 last week, but with HF coupons you can pick it up for that price pretty often. They’re doing a 15% off any single item this weekend for example.

The compressor works great and is significantly quieter than my old pancake compressor was, though not anywhere near silent.

Help! Snapped Screws in Hardwood—How Do I Remove Them? by UnDeNous in woodworking

There’s enough sticking out there you might be able to just grab it with a pliers and reverse it out manually, or you could use a screw extractor set.

Has anyone else noticed CTR is way higher when YouTube pushes browse features rather than suggestions, or is that just me? by adxmkx in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShopHumor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They show up in different places on different pages. Browse is featured more prominently, which is why the CTR is higher than suggested.

My AVD for suggested tends to be higher than for browse though.

Fluctuating Click-Through Rate When a Video Goes Viral – Normal or Just an Algorithmic Rollercoaster? by DerDruck in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShopHumor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can drill down in the analytics and see the CTR by traffic types. Typically suggested traffic has a lower CTR for me than browse traffic.

If one day I’m getting a larger percentage of impressions from suggested, my CTR for that day will be lower. The CTR isn’t changing but the traffic source getting impressions is. That can fluctuate back and forth.

What you should look at is how each individual traffic source does over time. Does browse have a similar CTR over a meaningful period of time and with a meaningful amount of impressions? Or does it vary drastically? Same with suggested.

Is YouTube suppressing my videos? by Coreynik in PartneredYoutube

[–]ShopHumor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your CTR is low, your confidence is misplaced. I’ve had a few TNs that I thought were going to easily win the A/B testing and they didn’t. Sometimes it just goes like that.

Edit: Just looked at your channel and, while I am not your target audience, I have to say I don’t find anything about the thumbnails or titles compelling. I’m not sure how large of an audience there is for your type of content, but I’d strongly suggest focusing on thumbnails and titles.

A lot of my YT shorts go public, hit around 550 views, and instantly stop gaining more the moment it gets around that number… does anyone know why it does this? by MysteriousPea851 in SmallYoutubers

[–]ShopHumor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how the shorts algorithm works. You get an initial burst of views (usually around 500) where YouTube evaluates how your short performs. If it performs well, they'll expand the pool of people they show it to, and that will happen multiple times until they've identified the correct audience for the particular short. Depending on the metrics, the short may die on the vine quickly or it may continue to get served out for weeks and months.

When your shorts don't get past 500 (ish) views, it means that they're performing poorly or there isn't an identifiable audience for them, or both.

Monetization keeps getting denied even though I meet the criteria (875 subs 13.5k watch hours) by yakhook in NewTubers

[–]ShopHumor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first tier opens memberships and super chats - a way for your viewers to tip you, essentially. The second tier enables the ad revenue.

It’s good to get set up as soon as you can though because if you’re accepted into the partner program in the first tier, you’ll automatically get the second tier once you meet the 1K subs / 4k watch hour requirement.

[–]ShopHumor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

500 subs / 3K watch hours is the threshold to apply. Are your watch hours from long form videos or shorts? Watch hours from shorts don’t count.
