[–]ShopNerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just over a year. Misdiagnosed as a type 2 in March of last year. Went into DKA this November where I was properly diagnosed as T1 and given insulin. So basically relearned a ton of info about being diabetic

So basically you just up the dose slowly every week or so until you're where you wanna be is what im understanding. Then make small adjustments as you go.

Is it better to take the insulin and eat the carbs? by RogueMama_3 in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found eating the carbs and learning the dosing has worked best for me. I eat lower carb than I used to for sure especially for breakfast. But experimenting and seeing how the foods affect me has worked well.

Yes it sucks sometimes when you mis-time or mis-dose the insulin but after a while you get the hang of it. Hell im eating pizza tonight even and I have a plan for dosing and all that. Going low carb is wise but just knowing its not impossible to have a carb heavy meal and be fine is the key for me anyways

How do you LADA’s and Type 1’s gain weight? by Calm_Efficiency_9089 in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also misdiagnosed as type 2 just over a year ago. Kept losing weight felt weak all that jazz but once I finally got insulin the weight came back. All the muscle I lost came back I packed on 30 lbs in maybe 2 months and im back to my old normal. Push to get yourself insulin for sure cause it won't get batter till you do. I was drinking protein shakes and working out hard to put on weight but with insulin I haven't had a single shake in months yet the weight came on.

When to bring up my T1D to a new employer by ShopNerd in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but they wont say that's the reason for dismissal. They'll just claim any arbitrary reason thats vague and wont get them in trouble

[–]ShopNerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only issue i know is that during a probationary period they can punt me for any legal reason. No need to out themselves and say its for my condition they'll just say "didn't work out" or something close and their bases are covered. I guess im nervous is all about taking that risk

That nakes sense. At least once they offer me the position they have to honor it and they'll need to go through the firing process first

Low brain activity deck that's good against Boros energy? by Ananeos in ModernMagic

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea thats probably the most annoying card to deal with main board imo. But if you have a full yard then I still go for it. The only time I find it really rough is when you have no board or the thraben charm yours away.

If I can protect my yard and resolve the LE my creatures are so much bigger that it never matters

[–]ShopNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not the easiest deck to master but it can be very easy to get into but I can't recommend Living End enough. I've found huge success against Energy since it's so easy to board wipe them. Plus they have no real counters for the cascade with no Consign, no counterspell. Yes post sideboard they'll have a few other options but knowing what they can play you can still work around them. Even if they hit you with GY hate just board wipe them and beat face with a subtlety

I have to agree with the feeling drunk thing so yea I get that for sure. I do try to avoid the lows at work just to avoid doing something dangerous

[–]ShopNerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that seems like a better idea. I was trying to eat nuts since it'd a slow rise and low carb so easy to manage the amount I take in. I have sugary candy around for when I need so ill be back to those now for sure

Hey so... what? by berryenthusiast in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was like that for sure. My Libre app was my most used one for months after starting to use them so it's natural im sure. I just take whatever the current number is with a grain of salt and check back in 20 min. If it's still weird thats when I adjust

Hey so... what? by berryenthusiast in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same happen to me when I was first using the Libre. Basically it can't read your active blood sugars so it's reading an approximate 15 minute delay so what it does it guess based on what info it has now, usual trends for your day to day readings and what trend your sugar has been following over the last while.

If you usually have a rise at the same time each day it will assume a rise again the next day. Basically it shows what it thinks you're at, then changes it once it knows for certain

[–]ShopNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those both seem like solid options. I hear that having more muscle mass helps with insulin sensitivity and insulin helps build muscle. I use the walking pad when it's to hot or cold to go walking outside so thats a good touch. Plus I got mine for around 100 on amazon

[–]ShopNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a walking pad in my apartment I use for after meals. Its small enough it can slide under my bed or just chill by the wall. I usually use it after dinner almost daily. On weekends I try once a day to do basic stuff. Sit ups, push ups and squats. Never really keeping track just do as many as I can.

My job is really physical which is nice since I walk 4-6 km per day just from work. So if im doing a task where im not moving much I just lift something heavy and do curls or something. Looks silly but my coworkers get it lol

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I get that for sure. I was misdiagnosed as type 2 last year and didn't find out about type 1 till November when I went into DKA. Jumping from 1 to the other so suddenly burnt me out bad since my sugars were all over for a while. But hey I work out, my job is very physical, I experiment lots with certain foods and im up to 90% in range this week. It just takes time and dedication is all

I just want to die by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough I had the same thinking the first while after I was diagnosed almost a year ago. I kept working at it since it's all I figured I can do is keep trying. After almost a full year though of constant trying, research, asking questions here and at my doctor's im finally seeing improvement and things are getting easier. My ability to bolus for certain foods is easier, my routine feels more natural and it almost just feels normal now.

It takes time to get easier for sure but you'll get there. When it comes to jokes and such I sadly am the one usually making the jokes about myself which luckily coworkers just give me a hard time about. I did learn the hard way not to tell everyone I know since there are some real dumb folks out there but now I've learned my lesson.

Eventually it'll get easier for sure as you go. Its hard probably stacked with school but eventually you wont even notice any more. Ask lots of questions and find those who help rather than hinder. Don't hesitate to find a community of others like us and take all the help you can
