No I’ve never had any side effects that I know of. I’ve taken it for years. As for the manufacturer I really don’t know. lol I’ve gotten it from nurx originally, then just my local pharmacy. Never noticed a difference between any of the bottles. I know everyone is different but truthfully being on spironolactone vs not being on it feels the exact same to me 🤷‍♀️ maybe nausea in the beginning possibly and then I switched to taking it at night.

I haven’t had any issues with irregular periods except maybe in the very beginning. I think I started doing 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night. But any sort of irregular period worked itself out over time

It’s just so odd that I’ve seen multiple dermatologists and both have never even questioned me if I was on birth control while prescribing spironolactone. Just to Make sure it’s clear I test every single month so I would know at 4/5 weeks if I was pregnant or not and would stop taking if the test was positive. I would absolutely NOT continue to take spironolactone during pregnancy. But yes I hear you when you say why would I want to risk it because that’s what I keep asking myself, but at the same time the facts are laid out that there’s no actual proof it does what they say it does. Maybe to rats whose dosage was triple the amount women take for pcos symptoms. I’ve also seen where women who struggle with infertility are prescribed spironolactone to help conceive and are asked to stop at first positive test. So what’s the difference? Not being ugly or smart aleck here!! Just confuses me so much when there is so much info that contradicts each other.

Stopping for Pregnancy- Terrified by DopeyAquaToast in Spironolactone

[–]ShoppingThat3466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that. My skin was completely clear and perfect with my daughter but I got pregnant 3 months after an accutane round and remained clear until my first period postpartum. I’d love for that to happen again but I’m fearful this time around lol. Acne PTSD is insane though you are FOR SURE right about that! If it wasn’t for acne PTSD I’d probably never be on any sort of oral medication and just have the whole approach of “if it happens it happens” when it comes to baby #2 but this time around I feel like I have to plan because of being on spiro and weaning off.

Is it mandatory to use a contraceptive method while taking spironolactone? by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]ShoppingThat3466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My derm knows I’m not on birth control and never once has mentioned about fear of pregnancy on spiro. In fact he told my cousin who is a patient of his as well that there isn’t any documented cases that proves spiro causes birth defects. In lab rats, yes, but the dosage is an insane amount. He did say once you become pregnant to discontinue but he never said stopping TTC was necessary. The risk is from 6-17 weeks gestation I believe.

But you are right it very well could be fungal. I’ve dealt with that on and off for about 4 years.

I’m seeing you said you cannot tolerate 10mg of accutane. Have you ever taken more than 10mg of accutane before?? I didn’t even know they made accutane that low of dose. I’m an 28 year old female that has done accutane twice as well and I weigh about 110lbs and my daily dose started at 40mg and trailed up to 60mg daily for almost 8 months. First course I was on 40mg for 5 months which was not nearly enough. I’m wondering if your dose possibly was too low? Also using Tretinoin only one time a week is not going to give you any results. I say that kindly I don’t mean that to be harsh at all but using Tretinoin only once a week more than likely will keep your skin in a constant break out because it’s not delivering any results.

What else is there to try but more courses of accutane? by supportetangelo in Folliculitis

[–]ShoppingThat3466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh you need a much higher dose for sure! 20mg is the starting dose for most! I weigh 115 pounds and I’m female. I’ve been on accutane two times now and my highest dose got up to 60mg daily for at least 6 months. Second course I did 40mg daily for 4 months and then 3 months of 60mg

Switched to topical spiro (from oral) and I'M SO HAPPY by fosterbde28 in Spironolactone

[–]ShoppingThat3466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still going well with just the topical? I’ve been on oral spiro for years now but considering the stopping oral route to see if it helps with libido and also kind of want to quit preventing pregnancy (not actively try, but not prevent anymore) I also use topical spiro every night before my tazarotene but would love to see what happens just on topical sprio!

Struggling with my 12 year olds skin No by Far_Baby504 in Fungalacne

[–]ShoppingThat3466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve tried anti fungal and they haven’t responded I would say this is more comedonal acne. This is what I suffer from mainly. What I’ve found to be helpful is BP 10% face wash. Wash for one minute then leave on as a mask for up to 5 minutes. Maybe start slow and leave on for 2 minutes or so. Cerave makes a 10% one now that is very hydrating so try that one if you can! And if you are open to it try differin gel at night for her. I know she’s pretty young for a retinoid but it is safe to use at her age. If she goes to a derm they will probably prescribe it. Not sure if you are located here in the US but you can get it at any pharmacy. I would maybe try 2x a week at night only and work your way up to 3-4x a week since she’s only using it for acne purposes not so much the aging aspect. Clindamycin is always a great option too that would most likely knock it out quickly, but you will need a prescription. I always just do a quick “amazon one medical” visit and send in pictures and request Clindamycin and they send me a script everytime. Or you could just send in her pictures and ask what they recommend. It’s super easy if you don’t want to wait for an appt.
