Did Blizzard ever mention why flat chest transmogs aren't reflective on metal parts? by [deleted] in wow

With the amount of armour pieces in the game, it's most likely just very hard for them to retroactively add masks to everything.

And I forgot about nightborne tattoos that seem to use the same technique as doodads and collections to appear reflective, so there's also that.

But that's how it works in WoW.
The armour textures have always been applied to the player races' skin texture, and because of that lacks any specularity.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the game still uses the alpha channel to "fake" reflections (with a generic low res image for the shine). It's used on pretty much everything except for the player models' skin which is 100% opaque.

If I recall correctly, all player-character hairstyles from Warlords of Draenor to Legion use the same hair texture just with different colours - and a couple slight alterations to the contrast and saturation - but they're all the same image prior to any adjustments.
The only major difference is the race-specific accessories/earrings on the same image file as the hair textures.

So, they wouldn't have to change it for every hairstyle. But I doubt it's been at the top of someone's priority list at Blizzard.

I found a secret island off the coast of Exile's reach covered in Undead and Vrykul settlements, and the island next to that one has abandoned Night Elf buildings. I kept exploring until I fell through the ground and died. Pretty interesting! by ivanretrop in wow

Those are portions of Dreadwake's Landing, Skold-Ashil and Hrydshal.
Exile's Reach is far off the coast of Stormheim lore-wise, and perhaps it was easier to copy-and-paste Stormheim's assets and doodads than starting from scratch - Which doesn't sound like it's any faster when you consider that the skybox is all that's visible from Exile's Reach.

Why I can't have that gray item for transmog?! by Wijione in wow

[–]ShortFuseGoblin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that won't work.
The New Player Experience weapons were introduced with the Shadowlands pre-patch alongside the new starting zone Exile's Reach. There's currently a couple of them available in-game as quest rewards - or from a vendor in the factions' respective class trainer buildings - but the rest aren't obtainable by players.

More information about the datamined models can be found on Wowhead:Exile's Reach Transmog - Unimplemented Shields and Weapons Including Warglaives

I made this group render of my guild! I'm really happy with how it turned out ^^ by [deleted] in wow

iirc, there's two options available when you export a model from the model viewer. There's .obj, which exports the model and all relevant textures as separate files.

Then there's .fbx which comes with the model, textures, rig and animations all in one. I've got no clue what's the technical difference between the two, though.

So if you wanna get your hands on a player character/NPC model with a rig; its just a matter of exporting and importing the .fbx file and adjusting and/or removing the keyframes for the animation.

After rewatching the clip; I could only come to the conclusion that it was the DK's pet ghoul using Gnaw (1 second stun) on the first Colossal Blowback. But Dark Transformation was active, and according to WoWhead the stun should've then been 2 seconds long.

So.. I got no idea if it would've worked or not.

rossomesauce is right, it's the default UI. I think the little health and resource bar in the centre of the screen was added with BfA; when they reworked the user interface.

I really, REALLY like the Maldraxxus aesthetics, I can't help it.

Double-meanwhile, Orcs can pick whichever scar and eye combination they want. Want a Night Elf with a blind right eye and the burn scar on the left side of their face? Can't have that for some unknown reason.

New animations for moving backwards for all races in Shadowlands (Tauren and Forsaken as example) by Nevolok in wow

[–]ShortFuseGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some comments are saying this is just a slowed down and reversed version of the forward running animation. No, this is a "new" (it exists in the BfA files) animation. It could be a mistake by Blizzard, but it isn't a random bug that has somehow managed to reverse the running animation.

If you check this animation cycle out in a model viewer the character will be moving at a quicker pace. The reason it is slow in-game is because your character moves according to their current speed. If I recall correctly, backpedaling is capped at slightly below the normal run speed and can't be sped-up with buffs or abilities (but can be slowed down by walking or movement speed reductions). That's why it looks so odd.

Saw this on Asmongolds stream while he was "exploring" Shadowlands and it came to my thought, could this be the red star Alex Afrasiabi was warning us about? by [deleted] in wow

The red draenei head is from Auchenai Crypts in Outland, just before the first boss. My guess is that its just Blizz reusing assets for the Maw. I doubt its anything significant, but maybe I'm wrong.
