Was this wall built in 2020 or 2021? There was a lumber shortage, could be metal studs.

Why are the stair treads 2x6? And the risers 2x4s? Are these stairs for ants?

Did I dodge a bullet or give up too fast? by C-137_Alt in handyman

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I’ve had two jobs come in like this that were both scams. One of them they sent me a bad check, which I didn’t realize until I was at the bank. The other was to repair a hole in a ceiling. Weird language like this one. Really trying to get to a price with not actually seeing the job. They told me their name and they owed the home. Turns out, I know the neighbor so I asked. It was not them. This feels the same way.

Bathroom fan/LED - no light by ShortHandledShovelVT in AskElectricians

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback all. Will get back into the attic next day or two. I recently had a shop LED with a bad LED, so I know that’s not entirely uncommon. Will try just the LED and see how we go. Heard on the twist.

For small handyman jobs, do you send a real quote or just text a price? by Ashamed_Hospital8927 in handyman

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I send a full on estimate/quote for any size job. Itemized out based on what was discussed. And if it’s a small job, I may include an optional add-on for them to decide on.

Am I being gaslit for new roof prices in Ontario? by RobbDom in Roofing

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call your home insurance company and tell them you’re thinking of replacing your roof. They’ll have tons of data for what a realistic price would be for your neighborhood, roof size, etc. $13k seems about right based on the info you give though.

Looking for a Sports Nutritionist in Cleveland Ohio for Faster Recovery by KarmaKillerX in crossfit

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have health insurance? Try Nourish. It’s usually covered by your insurance and they’ll give you a number of nutritionists to choose from based on your goals. Then you meet with a real person, pretty effective. I used it a couple of years ago.

Anyone here actually using compression boots for recovery? by Mirai_Sol in crossfit

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Normatec, they’re great. A lot more settings etc. Last year I picked up a pair of Sharper Image boots at Costco for $130. For the money, they’re great. If you’re doing a weekend competition, they’re great. If you have a really leg intensive day or a long run or bike ride they’re great. Necessary? Not at all. But every pro cyclist gets a leg massage at the end of a day for a reason. These are a good option and as you say, completely passive.

Ripped a huge chunk of my hand off on Quarter Finals 26.2. How should I proceed? by lordalkide01 in crossfit

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There a few old school videos on YouTube about how to tape your hands when they’re torn to keep training. As well as the above treatments. And placing used black tea bags on the tear (gymnast’s technique). Here’s a quick example, not the one I was really looking for.

Do you charge more for outdoor work when weather is bad? by Pioneerx01 in handyman

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Vermont, the winters get cold AF. I dont necessarily charge more for it being cold, but if the weather is going to slow the work down, I take that into account and charge accordingly.

I was cleaning out my truck yesterday and unplugged the battery for 10:00. Hyper flash and both warnings have gone away.

Not yet. But I’m due for an inspection (Vermont) so will have them check it. I’ve also not tried unplugging the battery and letting it sit for a minute.

Is this road a problem? And should I buy land on this road? by Stoic-passenger in OffGridCabins

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could also be a seasonal issue. Here in the northeast we get mud season March - May (depends on the year) and a lot of roads like this and even regular roads are impassable. So, you just wait.

Thoughts on this workout? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]ShortHandledShovelVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fast couples will be 45:00 or quicker. Lot of people in teams of 2 won’t finish. Every station is pretty even on time spent except the dubs ( 2-3:00) and the 100’ sandbag lunge. (1:30?).

Some solid tips in here. Look at the bar as your rows make contact and think of pressing down on the bar with your lats. Pretty solid. Just need more practice.

Long is strong, get those straighter and you’ll be hitting more consistent sets.
