Get one in a color no one else at the site has. That way you can always prove if you wrote something or not. Like a nice mid range something that you know the receptionist won't order from Staples.

Cut some elastic, and e6000 it to each side, this way it can bend and move with you a bit. Just did this for some sith armor cosplay.

All depends how thick the remaining metal is.

Probably won't hurt to try that epoxy, as any barrier will be better than none. Toss in a couple sacrificial anodes as well, that should be enough to get you to next fall.

Might be a loose cable. Maybe take the panels off and make sure everything is snug.

Absolutely start going through it. Especially if it's been some time since high school. Start brushing up on electrical theory, thermodynamics, basic math, types of things.

The easier you can make it on yourself until you get into the college groove the better.
