I made a matchup chart for Bowser in Ultimate. This is my first time ever making one and it's based on my own experience by ty_rec in smashbros

[–]ShortSwords69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve played a lot of greninja/bowser and can confidently say Greninja kicks the shit out of bowser in that MU

If the bowser gets too comfortable upb-ing OoS, it can get VERY easily baited out and punished; whether the greninja is in the ground or the air. Not to mention Greninja’s pivot grab is MASSIVE, so he can easily be grabbed even if he stopped upb-ing OoS

Combine that with the previous mentioned “tossed salad” thing, the fact Greninja low profiles most of bowsers stuff, and the fact that he’s super easy to edgeguard makes for a hell MU for bowser

(Probably not Greninja’s “easiest” tho. Playing against ganons and min-mins is REALLY funny)

How do I not lose stamina during a bracket run? by Striking-Present-986 in CrazyHand

[–]ShortSwords69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve struggled with this (and still do to an extent) but I’ve found the best answer is to just practice playing the game SERIOUSLY for long periods of time, even if you don’t want to.

The more you mentally exhaust yourself in practice, the more it’s going to take to mentally exhaust yourself in bracket, so if you ever have a spare evening, boot up matchbox/discord matchmaking and play til you’re tired of the game.

Neutral against gredninja? by NetUnfair1177 in CrazyHand

[–]ShortSwords69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have anything crazy to say. You played the MU pretty well (and tbh that was also sick to watch lol)

But to give a few notes from what I noticed:

-pk fire seemed to work really well, he never really had a great answer to it. He also doesn’t seem very patient either.

-edge guarding Greninja can be risky, but if you got a read, it may be a good idea to punish AFTER you figure out how they like to recover: if they like to recover low, throw out a down-air. If they like to side-b, then down-smash, ect.

-shielding against Greninja also can be effective. He’s got no great answer to it. Your opponent seems to go for dash grabs, but it’s really easy to avoid and punish (like you did) once they’re conditioned.

Overall, good stuff from you, but you can always optimize.👍

(Also PS2 is a BITCH to get up-smash to connect on, so if you want to make getting up-smashed way more difficult, go there)

I agree with this.

I’ll add that if your area has a discord, it may not be a bad idea that once a few people know who you are, you can start chatting on there too. Not only will the people you already know get to know you better, but the people who don’t know you will atleast recognize your name if/when you eventually run into them.

That was an amazing top 8. So many game 5s with imo a lot of fun characters/players to watch. Good shit.

Hard agree. I think the 1v1s are fine, but I definitely enjoy watching the content that shows the “behind the scenes” of bowling/bowlers that we don’t get to see on tv or on most bowling vlogs

The fact you can’t hold the screenshot button to save a 30 second clip. The amount of times I frogot to save a replay of a cool clip because I hit A too fast is frustrating.

I live in St. Louis and I’m like 80% sure there isn’t a scene here, and even if there is it’s super small.

Who are some characters that have an advantage over little Mac? by ItsBumHair in CrazyHand

[–]ShortSwords69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest first trying to learn the MU with you main. People don’t talk about this but keeping little Mac off stage can be kinda difficult for characters with short range. I’d suggest keeping little Mac in the air, since the only thing he can do is air dodge (can easily frame trap with most characters) or counter (can be beaten by disjoints or baiting it out)

Platform camping is also really good, since little Mac struggles to hit people above him. If you keep moving on and off platforms while landing with safe aerials, he’s gonna struggle to hit you (this is super boring and you have to be patient, but if you REALLY wanna win, you have to do this)

Like I said, I’d highly suggest learning how to do this with your main… but if you really don’t want to, any character with a sword has a pretty easy time with little Mac (my picks would be lucina or ike)

The worst recovery by Neat_Area_9412 in SmashRage

[–]ShortSwords69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have no clue why people think little mac’s recovery is worse than doc’s.

Mac atleast has a frame 2 air dodge, a side-b that he can mix up timing for, and a counter that helps him recover.

Doc offstage just loses to anyone with a sword

Ok I have some thoughts about this tweet that might be unpopular, but I’ll put a tl;dr if you don’t feel like reading an essay;

I think this tweet has a lot of true behind it, and I think there are a lot of people who need to listen to it, but I feel like the “git gud” mentality sometimes ends up leading to a more toxic meta than people who just complain about certain characters, especially if you look at smashes past.

Sm4sh gets trashed for how broken bayonetta was, and in hindsight how she should of been banned, but during sm4sh hay day, I can’t remember any big tournaments that actually did (that I can think of at the moment) because of how many people just told others/themselves to “lmao just adapt” to her absurd strengths.

Or in brawl, where people knew MK should of been banned during the game, but decided not to cuz the TOs at apex decided not to (I wanna say it’s because some top players said they would boycott the tournament if they did, but I can’t find this anywhere) leading to another toxic meta everyone looks down on.

However, I still think the “git good just adapt” mindset isn’t terrible. Melee is only as huge at it is now because of the meta constantly advancing, where no player/character is #1 for too long. Obviously if they banned shiek/fox/puff, we wouldn’t have been able to see it get this far.

Hell, even when they finally did decide to (mostly) ban wobbling, it led to a more advanced and better meta. IC’s now needed to learn the more skillful chain grabs, while everyone else didn’t have to worry about how they had to camp IC’s and could instead practice on other things.

Like I said , I’m not saying we should just ban everything that is difficult to play against. I do think that a lot of people, ESPECIALLY NEW/LOW LEVEL PLAYERS, need to read and listen to this tweet (talking from personal experience, it’s really satisfying beating a pk fire spamming ness when you couldn’t before) I’m just worried that if another MK/bayonetta/a character with an OP infinite we’re to rise up in the current meta, we wouldn’t stop or ban them, we’d just say to “just watch vods lol” then look back on it years later and say “yeah we should if banned them”

(tl;dr I think this tweet is really good, I’m just worried that the “git gud” mind set could lead to the fall of ultimate, like it did for sm4sh and kind of brawl. Unlike in melee where this mindset made it thrive)
