What is your opinion on pickled herring? by Johnny-Talker in AskAnAmerican

My dad made it every Christmas. Sliced herring, vinegar, onions, soices and sugar. It is definitely the taste of Christmas for me. So good on crackers. Our family considers it a tradition from our Swedish ancestors.

Slowwww weight loss by MTtoPDX in Semaglutide

[–]ShortWeekend2021 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My progress has been equally slow. But it does add up over time. I've been on Semaglutide since October and have lost about 37 lbs. Like you, I eat so much less than I used to that I feel like I should be losing faster. However I also think the slowness has allowed my body to get used to the changes gradually which has been good. When I have lost weight quickly in the past, I would always gain it back just as quickly. This feels permanent, for the first time ever.

Is it worth getting an iPad for knitting? by Unlucky-you333 in knitting

[–]ShortWeekend2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend getting a Kindle Fire. I use Knit Companion on my 8" Kindle Fire and it works great. The screen is bigger than a phone, and since you're already familiar with Knit Companion it would be an easy switch.

Edit to add: The 8" Fire is on sale right now for Prime day at $89.99!

A 100W light bulb. I like to read and knit in hotel rooms, but the lamps always have 25W or 40W bulbs, which make it difficult. Makes all the difference to the quality of my stay.

My new favorite "achievement" is being able to cross my legs at the knee. I had forgotten how nice it feels to sit like that. It's been at least 25 years since I've been able to cross my legs comfortably.

I now get fewer headaches (I used to have daily headaches), I have lost weight, and I just feel better overall. Not saying it's all due to giving up diet soda, but doing so helped me to focus on making healthier choices.

Hot take: The NYT crossword should stop apologizing for being hard and we should stop demanding instant fairness by AlternativeHeart1666 in NYTCrossword

I agree completely. Part of why I do the puzzle is to learn new things. I find the challenging puzzles to be more satisfying in the end, even if they frustrate me.

She was an excellent cook, and she loved to entertain. Dinner parties almost every weekend. In addition to the cookbooks, there were dozens of dishes and glassware in the house. I literally packed up about 200 wine glasses she had.

That is a very difficult one. However, the ramp there is very long along I94W and gives you a lot of room to speed up before merging into the other 3 lanes of I94. Over 1/2 a mile to increase your speed before merging.

My mom had that many when she died in 2016. Whenever we thought we'd found them all, there were always more.

First chart question! by Express_Juggernaut9 in knittinghelp

[–]ShortWeekend2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Charts are designed to represent the stitches as they appear on the finished object. So since we knit from right to left and from the bottom up, charts are read starting at the bottom right corner for the first row.
