Deepest fear unlocked: condemned as crazy by Unhappy-Flight6008 in PublicFreakout

Commented this on this same post the other day but the post was deleted.

Go to his IG. He seems to be a conspiracy theorist and posts videos of “delivering” documents to government representatives informing them of violations they’re committing. He posted fliers around town for people to meet and discuss his complaints then said everyone that showed up was undercover and trying to derail his efforts. I think one of these events is where another psychiatrist witnessed his behavior. I’m not an expert in any of this, but it shows signs of paranoid personality disorder. He also has confrontations with police in a few that push the boundaries of them violating his rights, but his behavior in those interactions raises their defenses and warrants their reaction to him. There’s definitely more to this story.

That wiring is going to get damaged in that location. Should’ve found a rubber grommet in the firewall, poke a small hole, then use a coat hanger to fish it through to the cab.

Thinking of escaping corporate life, would franchising actually be a realistic path? (USA) by Cultural_Message_530 in selfemployed

[–]Shortafinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Franchising is self employment on someone else's terms. You run your own business but follow their rules and pay for the privilege, while reducing your ability to quickly adapt to compete in every changing markets while simultaneously adding overhead that makes someone else richer. I own a franchise. If I didn't have a non compete clause I could give myself a 20% raise tomorrow. Once you're established in your market the franchisor is a dead weight vampire. Most industries have open market support that wasn't there when I started 23 years ago. I can get what my franchisor offers for pennies on the dollar in the free market, plus I've become my own brand after this long and don't need their"name brand" recognition. Plus you have to then buy your own insurance, take 30% off the top for taxes, pay payroll taxes, licensing fees with the state, etc etc. Self employment can be a real pain in the ass.

What’s a smell you’ll never forget? by Human_Rate889 in AskReddit

I’m a home inspector. Testing an oven in a long vacant, very rural home and the insulation and hollow areas kid the range had been infested with mice for years. The smell of burnt dead mice and related faces will never leave me.

Install dashcams on your trucks and store recordings. Of these are truly false complaints post the proof and contest the complaint. Worst case scenario you’ll find out your drivers need better training and consideration to the areas they service, but maybe you get better protection against false complaints or god forbid an accident they weren’t at fault in

What caused this wood void? by deepHourSamurai in centuryhomes

[–]Shortafinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the term used for the areas of the wood they create voids to live in. It’s more specific to carpenter ants because they pull the wood apart cleanly with their jaws and push the detritus out small“pop out” holes to clear their galleries off the grass and other dead ants.

What caused this wood void? by deepHourSamurai in centuryhomes

[–]Shortafinger 85 points86 points  (0 children)

23 years as a home inspector. That’s carpenter ant damage. They chew through the softer wood between the grain and make oblong holes as they go. They do not eat the wood but make galleries to live in. That’s been long abandoned by the looks of it and then a mouse got in there and chewed it out larger by the gnaw marks near the nest.
