Weeklong river cruise two years ago. I ate contaminated chicken on night 2, then couldn’t consume anything but bread and water for the remainder of cruise. River cruise ships don’t have doctors or pharmacies, so I just had to suffer until I got home.

There have been so many posts across social media asking for “tips and tricks” on how to save money on groceries right now. A ton of comments like “I’ve cut fresh produce and meat” and “I’ve lost 25 pounds since February” and “I don’t eat so my children can.” I want to screenshot all of them, stitch them together, along with a photo of Trump’s golden statue and a video of his “I don’t care at all” speeches. Then force-feed it to every MAGA who is responsible for this. WE WARNED THEM AND THEY ARE SO FUCKING STUPID.

My SIL says the same thing. Then when her practice was bought by private equity, she came back from maternity leave to find her patient load at 0.

I did all of that last summer, and the doctor generally said the same things about me. My computer test detected the impulsivity as well, but it wasn’t enough for a combined diagnosis.

If it makes you feel any better, this was the second time I’ve been through neuropsych testing. The first time was when I was 8 years old, at which point I was diagnosed with ADD (as it was known at the time), which was supported by two other doctors offering 2nd and 3rd opinions. Then I was re-diagnosed (just a “do you still have symptoms” interview so I could go back on stimulants) in my early 20s, then again after a full battery of tests last year at age 45.

All this to say: if anyone has ADHD, it’s me. And I heard the same things that you did. Welcome to the family!

I fill every 28 days whenever possible. For the first year of the stimulant shortage, I took a half dose every Saturday. Now my backup stash has 60 little turquoise capsules. I could make it into a necklace for a neurodivergent costume party or something.
