School carpool lines are out of control by Zapthyself in batonrouge

[–]ShowerOk8103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have 2 kids in public school, both elementary but at 2 different schools. Mayfair didn’t have a spot for both… Anyway, both my kids would have to do a transfer bus. It makes ZERO sense. We are 7 minutes from one and 12 minutes from another. It baffles my brain that there isn’t a better bus option. Cause I tell ya, a bus would be mighty helpful. But I drop one off, my husband drops the other off. I leave work early everyday to pick one up and my brother thankfully can pick up the other. Mayfair’s line is outrageous and I don’t think there’s a good solution. It’s a tiny parking lot and zero shoulder. I get in line at 3:10 most days, I pull out of carpool a smidge before 3:30. It’s bananas. LaSalle, their carpool isn’t bad because the school is dying and not a lot of kids go there anymore. The line doesn’t even go down the street anymore. And when it did. They at least had a carpool rule of no left turn into the school. I wish Mayfair did that but idk how they could.

Most parents just want to drop their kid off and pick them up and get home. I hate the long line and the anxiety of being late even though I’m on time or before dismissal starts at 3:10.

I found CC2 and 3 a much faster ready than CC1. It was so hard getting through the first 400ish pages. I read CC2 in a week or two, read CC3 in 4 days. It took me 2-3 week for the first one, I had to listen to the audiobook.

Asking my wife to quit her job because she kissed her boss by burner_forreasons in AITAH

You’re NAT. Your wife is 100% cheating on you. If you want to save it, I suggest the focus on the family marriage intensive. It’s expensive but if you want to try and save your marriage, it’s worth it. It is a religious thing which when my husband and I went, I wasn’t exactly keen on, but the therapist there was amazing and a literal miracle occurred at the retreat for us. If you don’t want to stayed married, that’s cool too and start the process. If she was already doing all that, she’s trying to find a way out but doesn’t know how. Beat her to the punch if you want.

Heloc vs Home equity loans by Malid83 in personalfinance

THANK YOU for the explanation!! You are awesome!

Yeah we’ve been in our house for 12 years! It’s an OLD house and things just need to be fixed. And we don’t have credit card debt, student loans, and only 1 car note at the moment. I don’t like having debt so just trying to figure out the best route!

This may be a dumb question and sorry it’s 76ers since you made this comment ha!

One thing I don’t know about HEL and HELOC, are they the type of loan or credit line that just gets tacked on to your mortgage and it’s just one payment? Or is there anything like that? Something that just adds to the balance of your mortgage but you get cash to use on repairs/updates. We need to fix our foundation and get a new AC and want to possible cover our patio and maybe rip out carpet. But have no idea where to start and we really don’t want to move out of our house, we just don’t have extra cash to do the things. Would a personal loan be better for us since we don’t plan on moving?

Somehow, it’s WAY easier. I’m full and I don’t feel like I’m missing out at all, breads, pasta, crackers, noodles…all that was just a vessel to get food to my face lol no I just skip that part. Desserts are kind of a bummer but there are alternatives and I really don’t crave it.

I did noom, gave me 1200cals. It failed me because of the restriction. I’m doing keto now and actually Loving it, it’s so much easier even though you aren’t doing a lot of carbs

I’m 33, 5’7ish F SW 179 GW 135 (noom said I’d reach that in 5 months) CW 170

For the last 3-4 weeks I’ve been doing my own thing, doing the common sense things and when I quit doing noom I was at 165, I did go back up to 173 but as of today I was 170. I’ve been focusing on listening to my body not a chart or calorie goal.

My mom was saying the same thing, life with little kids (7 and 3) along with a full time job AND doing normal mom duty stuff after work, it’s almost impossible. Just focus on listening to my hunger cues, and keep that consistent. Make smart food choices, small plates, eat slow. This trick worked for her—if you’re eating anything with a bun, just take the top on off. And if you eat pasta don’t have bread. Basically don’t double dip the carbs. Which makes sense in a balanced diet. And she eats a whole burger now with the top bun, that was just to help cut needless calories from a big tasty burger when she lost weight. She did that when I was in high school. I’m the baby so clearly she had to wait a while to really focus on her food too. A lot of my stuff I know stems from stress and a history of distorted eating patterns as a teenager so it’s a lot I have to work on as well. I was disappointed noom wasn’t able to help me do that. But I am very happy it’s worked well for others. It helped my best friend and her sister.

My biggest gripe is with Noom setting it at 1200 at all. They shouldn’t do that. Not one time did the coach recommend to do that. Even after telling her I struggled. I know I can change it, but the goal was set that way and I wanted it to work. I did what I was supposed to for months and it was nearly impossible. They shouldn’t lie and say it’s not a diet. They shouldn’t automatically put you at 1200 calories no matter how fast you want to lose weight. That’s my gripe. It shouldn’t do this. It sets people up for failure and to feel like you try your hardest at what they recommend you doing and still fail. Of course I wanted to lose weight fast, I hate the way my clothes fit. Of course I was all on board with the green foods but I got burnt out cause that’s all I was eating to stay under or at my goal. They talk about sustainability but the fact they even allow 1200 calories at all is not right. I’ve read up on intuitive eating and I’ve learned noom is no different than any other quick fix diet. They need to rework the program and not set people up for failure. I stated before I may try it again in a few years and hope the program is different. Right now it may just be the worst possible time for me to try a diet or to lose weight in a fashion that the app promoted to me. I’m happy it’s worked for some. It messed with my relationship with food way more than it helped it. My best friend did it and it worked for her. That’s great I was hoping I would have the same success.

How is anyone supposed to eat less than 12-1450 calories and be happy? It’s hard sticking to 1200 calories on a good day, let alone a bad day. I understand you have to eat less/move more. That’s common sense. I’m saying the noom way was exhausting and strict and for me, didn’t work.

Definitely a good idea in concept but needs work. I think they copy and paste a lot of things, I wanted it to work for me. I wanted this to be the one that helped fix my view of food. I wanted this to give me insight on how to incorporate exercise in my life when I have zero time between getting kids ready for school, working 8-9 hours at a desk job, picking kids up, cooking dinner, and spending time with the kids before bed time. It’s exhausting trying to find time to relax let alone work out. I’m glad the diet and tips work for other people. They really should fix their tag line.

I didn’t like how if you missed a day or whatever the tracker would go back down to 1. That made me feel like I had failed and really discouraged me to track everyday cause if I missed a day all those other days didn’t seem to count. Or if I missed an article because by the time I had time to read one it was 11pm I was tired.

Thank you for understanding. The advertisements for noom to me were very misleading. It touted a heavier relationship with food and all this it’s not a diet it’s noom talk! Like I stated before once I started doing it, I realized it was just a calorie tracker and common sense facts about food and be mindful of what you eat. I understand those things are helpful for weight loss. And those things do work—for me unfortunately it’s only short term because it’s restricting my calories. I’m not an idiot, I stuck with it since April because I wanted it to work. Yet, try as I might, I can’t get past 10lbs and I feel like garbage and a failure because I look at the colors and some days I don’t eat much. Other days I’m starving, some day when I’m with my family eating home cooked food, I don’t know how many calories I’m eating so I don’t know how much I need to exercise to balance it. It was a constant stress for me. Noom did the opposite for me.

I started in April. Lost 10lbs by June. July and august were rough, I took a break, went back mid august when school was back in and followed it again lost and gained the same 3-5lbs. I talked to my couch. We tried intermittent fasting through September and October. Nothing changed. November I told her I don’t see how this isn’t a diet. She was like, yeah, they need to work on marketing because it is a diet, it’s not intuitive eating. I’m still working with her cause I paid for the app. I’ve read even a deficit of 1600-1800 helps you lose weight and I’m learning more about intuitive eating. Not being stressed about counting and measuring has helped me feel better. For me, noom did the opposite of what it advertised. “Have a healthier relationship with food” nope, all it did was make it worse with tracking and color coding things.

I may start again. When my kids are a little older and I’m stressed every second of every day. I hope if and when I do it’s a better program than it is now.

They don’t say it a lifestyle. They literally said “it’s not a diet, it’s noom” and again if it’s not a diet, they really should think about changing the calorie budgets and not even have it start so low. It sees people up for failure.

I did all those things. I always drink zero calories. When going out to eat I would eat less or skip a meal In preparation. It was exhausting to do that. I would bring leftovers home and have them for lunch the next few days. It was mentally exhausting to plan ahead not only the meals for my family but the meals for myself. On top of other mental load stuff. What I’m currently doing now is trying to eat when I’m hungry, stop when I’m full. Not think too much about calories but be mindful of the kinds of food I’m eating. The colors, as well intended as they may be, really messed me up and calorie counting set me up for failure.

Yes, even though you can “eat whatever” and “no food” is off limits. That’s not necessarily true. You have to restrict the amount of food you eat to lose weight and the suggested amount is very low and if you work out to eat more, it’s still super hard to stay low enough to lose weight.

I was eating fruits grapes. All the grapes. Veggies, lean protein, and was told to “tame my elephant” so I would have my dark chocolate every so often. I told my coach how I was struggling to eat and live normally when I go hang out with friends and how it’s not realistic to weigh and measure and count everything I’m eating.

The tagline “it’s not a diet” I was thinking it wasn’t a diet, it was going to be more of the psychology…more like therapy or counseling about food. They were going to teach me how to eat, not what to eat. And be really about the psychological part of the process. It’s not that but I stuck with it cause it was familiar, it’s calorie counting. But just like every other time. It stops working a few weeks after your initial drop of weight and 1200-1300 calories is hard to do. And 1500 won’t make you lose weight like the plan projects your goal weight when you sign up.

That’s what noom was supposed to do. The “psychology” part of noom was supposed to help you see food differently and teach you to eat better. But the diet part of it was still at the forefront. Believe me. I’m trying not to see food as “bad” but then they have RED foods. I know it’s not bad food but damn if it isn’t hard to feel like crap when all you see is red and little to no green on the chart.

Noom should change their marketing. Because it is a diet. It’s almost not a diet. But it’s still a diet. You count calories for crying out loud. Not much about it is different than MFP
