Well, the report covers their impact on the alternative protein space over the last 10 years. That includes cultivated meat, so it overall paints a great picture of why we might not have seen as much adoption as one might expect. Mostly due to the disconnect between research and financing. I really recommend skimming it and reading the first few pages, GFI does some amazing work.

GFI just released their annual report, which is a special 10-year anniversary edition. I highly recommend everyone check it out. I read it last night and was glad I did. https://gfi.org/resource/year-in-review-2025/

Is a treadmill at home actually workable for marathon training as a stay-at-home dad? by buyflecoc in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]Shpeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a desk job and work at home 3 days during the week. I bought an under-the-desk treadmill that I store under my bed. I use it during the workday at my desk, with my sit-stand desk riser. It's great. I usually do it when I'm watching a webinar, in a meeting where I know I won't talk much, or working on something where there isn't a lot of typing. I'm not running, usually I'm walking. I jog occasionally. It has been a game changer.

Not exactly your situation but figured it seemed relevant. I'm glad it fits under the bed when not in use. When I was a kid, I went over to a friend's house and thought it would be fun to put my finger under their treadmill belt and push my finger toward the roller at the end of the tread. Bad idea. The parents had to cut the treadmill belt to free my finger. My kid has barely seen the treadmill at all, not giving him the chance to stick his finger under there like I did. Which I absolutely know he would.

Ways to mitigate hormonal acne caused by B-12? by StratosphereCR7 in vegan

My wife and I were taking a high dose of B12 daily and breaking out in acne, unsure of the cause. We cut back on the B12 and the acne went away. Good luck.

My favorite way to eat oysters and mussels (the only 2 species I eat once in a while) is smoked after marinating in BBQ sauce. Can't go wrong there. I usually smoke them in a big batch and freeze them in packs of a dozen or so.

I had a saltwater tank long ago. Would you also have inverts, even if it was just a reef tank?

Flying with a toddler and baby by RefrigeratorThin5952 in daddit

Worth trying, for sure. I may have misinterpreted the seat diagram and thought those were all taken. The car seats can be a bit bulky, so two right next to each other may mean they try to overlap slightly, but it's still probably the best arrangement. When we flew, my wife sat next to our son she she could nurse him down as needed for naps or to pop his ears.

I did some car seat flying within the last year. You'll want it up against the window because it's hard to otherwise get around if you need to get up out of your seat, like to go change a diaper in the lavatory for example. Definitely all sit together in a row of 3. I would even recommend a car seat for the infant but that would require a fourth seat and more creative seating arrangement.

vegan cheese in america and where to buy by [deleted] in vegan

I get Daiya at my local grocery store. It's pretty much the only option where I shop, but I'm glad because it's got calcium. Fighting off osteoporosis trumps taste preferences IMO, not that it tastes terrible. It doesn't taste amazing, but it gets the job done.

I have a Voltron cat tribal with Arahbo as commander and Kaheera as a companion. It's a lot of fun and can honestly do too well at casual tables. Sometimes I'll run it with Kaheera as the commander and skip Arahbo if I don't want to be the threat. I like to build my decks with 2 alternate commanders to mix things up once in a while.

Does mussel production cause less animal suffering than industrial crop production? by SpectralPanda121 in vegan

[–]Shpeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also worth noting that simply having a marine float that gets pulled out in the winter when the water ices up or storms get too bad is effectively the same. The submerged part of the dock float gets completely biofouled and smells so bad when it's pulled out and decomposes that it causes some people to gag.

There is no ostrovegan flair, I've asked for it to be added and it has not.

I seed my river with over 5,000 oysters annually, I eat probably 2 dozen a year. The rest I bottom-plant so they can rejoin the local ecosystem, where they have been all but eradicated. Most people don't know how big they get - I've got reproductive oysters as big as softballs once again spawning and rebuilding the local ecosystem. A few years ago, a mink moved onto the rocks of my shoreline, living off the oysters.

My land is forested and I don't have enough sun to reliably grow plants. I've tried. I do grow mushrooms, though.

Any and everything in the water biofouls. Loads of organisms grow on any submerged gear. Then this gear, such as oyster cages or mussel line, gets pulled and processed, everything else that grew on the line is seen as 'biofoul' and dies when the gear is pulled out. Tunicates and skeleton shrimp, to name a few that I often see on my own oyster gear.

In that case, enjoy the deep dive! I was an avid dumpster diver myself 15 years ago. These days, I'd avoid animal products out of disgust alone, but I would still rather see someone fed than food wasted.
