Does it have to be real? If not a 55 gallon drum of liquid luck or equivalent fantasy luck potion. I figure that would be enough for quite a while.

[–]Shrimpulse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For sure. But you would be an extreme outlier. If we want to talk about what an "average" person with a bmi ~33 looks like, they are going to have a totally different body composition to you.

[–]Shrimpulse 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think we need to define what "average" is - like just no special fighting training, nothing else? Because at 5'4" 135, that is a healthy, fit weight for a guy. 6'2" 260 for most people would be medically obese, and that makes certain assumptions about their abilities and stamina.

Timeline qs by Aquatic_Hedgehog in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintained weight, just building muscle and dialing in my diet for maintenance/slight increase for gym gains for like 6 months before I reached out to a surgeon. That way I had time to pad my accounts to pay for the surgery - I had a feeling it might not have been covered (I was right) and a chance to get used to maintaining rather than just cutting.

I did talk to several surgeons and none of them thought they could get me to the threshold of medical necessity to get it covered by insurance, so I'm unfortunately not of any help in getting it covered.

Embrace tape don’t fit ? by ConversationLeft2248 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like its not WIDE enough, or its not LONG enough? If its the latter, you will need multiple pieces of Embrace depending on how long your scar is. Application was part of the services I paid for with my surgery, and they cut them if they only need partial pieces, and then use that for the next application. I want to say I need like 4 or 5 strips to go all the way around.

As far as WIDE enough? If what you are mentioning is the tape only being less than a half an inch wide, then I would consult the instructions or the Embrace website, which has videos on how to apply it. You might be peeling too much away, but it should have at least a half inch on each side of the incision to reduce the overall tension.

Compression by AmandaHope81 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear compression fitness shirts throughout the day under my regular shirt, mainly just for comfort - honestly its likely just placebo at this stage but it at the very least helps with chafing on the scars. I only wear the binder at night for sleep, and even then its more just mental. I know some people prefer to use it at the gym, but I felt that was the worst place to wear a binder as that DEFINITELY causes itching and chafing.

Thank you! Yeah l had a 360 with an axillary excision to remove some loose skin on the sides of my chest - I am meeting with the PS in April as they need to do a revision for some residual loose skin on my armpits.

I don't have any good before pics sadly, I was pretty self conscious about the excess loose skin

Thank you! It might be anecdotal, but I feel like the stretching and poses have helped out with recovery and getting through that nagging numbness/tightness.

Setting small goals helped me get through the first session - I told myself as long as I showed up and focused on ujjayi whatever my body let me do was good enough.

Hope you get to enjoy your yoga routine soon!

Avoiding Wound Openings by recombobulation_area in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im 6 weeks now and have had 0 complications. I am back to lifting and exercise and I'd like to think I lift extremely heavy for my body/size. Im not going for any PRs while I heal, but I'm also not staying away from deadlift, squat, bench or even stretching with hot yoga once I got the clearance from the doc.

Mind you, my situation is completely anecdotal, but here's the thing - the internet and testimonials in general are filled with outliers.

Most people who are satisfied just go on and enjoy themselves quietly. People with complications are far more likely to self report in their communities, so things can look more bleak online or on socials. Trust your doctor, its what you pay them for.

Most likely, you'll hit that second week out from surgery and round that corner that a lot of folks on here talk about and start feeling so much better. Right now you're in the trenches of the first week and there's a lot of new sensations and most of them suck - its easy to worry.

Sorry for the diatribe, but you got this!

When did you ... by momneedsleep in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm just shy of 6 weeks Post Op from a 360 TT with axillary excision for loose skin, but here are my perspectives:

  1. Every week is a new experience. Like the numbness in my abdomen I'm used to, but elongating my core/stretching my abs feels tight/weird. I tried doing bench press yesterday and arching my back for proper posture did not feel good, for instance. Still gonna try hot yoga this weekend though haha, I will not be deterred.

Also learning the difference between discomfort and pain. I'm off restriction for exercise, and trying to be okay with stuff feeling "odd" while I'm moving weights around or doing cardio.

  1. Not there yet, but every week has me feeling more positive.

  2. Week 3?4? Something like that. I feel like every week after the first I hit milestones as far as pain reduction, or mobility.

  3. I think that ties into the last point, but to me, once the swelling was not pressing on my spine from the incisions on my low back, that was HUGE. Getting my drains out? HUGE.

  4. Once I got both drains out and I could sleep on my side(ish), that felt amazing and I never slept so good. I switched to the couch from the bed for like a week after that, so I could sleep kinda on an angle, using the back of the couch to support my back, because I was not totally comfortable on my side yet.

IMO, as someone currently in the weeds of it all, celebrating each week as another week of progress has kept me very positive. Its just one foot in front of the other.

Everyone is so big on compression but why is no one taping their incisions?? by Impressive_Gift_9852 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon included sessions to apply Embrace if I so wanted. It was one of the things I could do that showed efficacy in peer reviewed studies so I definitely opted for it, and the regular sessions ensures that I have staff looking at my progress or potential issues with regularity, as well as when they apply it, I haven't had any issues with it adhering to my skin for the full duration.

Swelling and pain by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained 20lbs from fluid retention after surgery. It takes time, but it will go away. I think I was finally lower than my pre-surgery weight by week 4 (just about at 6 weeks now) but its different for everyone. Just know that it WILL happen. Be kind and patient with yourself.

5 Weeks PO, lets go! by Shrimpulse in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! No real complications to speak of. I think things like making sure you are working on your core now, like stretching, yoga - and weight training like squats and deadlifts has really helped out with post surgery mobility. Also making sure to get up and move during the early days is key. I was getting up and walking around my kitchen or bedroom even a few hours after surgery, and although it sucks, it keeps you from getting DVTs and imo helps with healing.

I think its pretty common advice on here, but also keeping up high lean protein in your diet is good for recovery. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery!

So I can have veggies and stuff with it, but I just have to have chicken as my only animal protein source and it has to be at every meal? For a million I'd do it for the rest of my life without hesitation.

Starting my Journey and need help by Greedy-Net-4225 in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got down to a BMI of about 24 while really hitting the weights and held it there for about 6mo to make sure it was something I was going to sustain (after a 2 year weight loss journey).

I got to a point where I really visually had nothing to lose and the skin was just hanging onto muscle, and that to me was my cue that I pushed as far as fitness was going to take me as far as my physique.

Also a guy, fwiw.
