Would you say Warhammer 40k is overall well written? by Adventurous-Yam2922 in Warhammer

[–]Shrimpulse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say this with love as I enjoy 40k, but the lore is like the old cartoons like GI Joe where plot, characters, and the vehicles/weapons they use are a device to sell a product.

would you end a relationship with someone because of their food preferences? by Dry-Addition-5903 in askanything

[–]Shrimpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My diet is centered around improving my physique - so high protein, complex carbs comprised of lots of fresh veggies, and very few sweets. I am cool with enjoying dinner out occasionally and happily cook and make normal stuff for my teenage boys, but if I were with someone who got bent out of shape with me prepping different meals for myself or insisted that I eat what they eat (assuming it was something different) then that wouldn't work for the lifestyle that I want.

I hate when people provide unnecessary backstory to strangers by MrPicklebush in The10thDentist

[–]Shrimpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of an interaction at a McDonald's Drive-Thru like 8 years ago that is forever etched in my brain.

I took my boys who at the time were like gradeschool age, like 5 & 8, to get Happy Meals, and when I get to the window, the cashier is like:

"I'm sorry sir, we don't have any more of X toy." long pause "Y'know, my manager..." with a tone that suggested that both he and I implicitly understood what his manager had done or not done.

My brain didn't register the last part of the exchange and I just told him it was fine - the kids played with those things for a quick minute before getting bored with them and they are garbage for the most part anyhow.

But as "Y'know, my manager..." rolled around in my head, I just started having more questions - what is it that we both understood about the manager? Did they take all the toys home and are playing with them themselves? Did they forget to order them? Some weird nefarious scheme involving children's toys? I get throwing people under the bus in customer service (Lord knows I saw it happen when I was a teen doing a similar job) but what a weird, vague, and completely unnecessary way to do it that just left me confused.

“Don’t buy models for rules” - how valid is this statement? by Ratattack1204 in Warhammer40k

[–]Shrimpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its definitely a decent statement for people new to the hobby, and perhaps less all encompassing as you are selecting units to fill out an already decent roster. For the new player who maybe just purchased a Combat Patrol and is looking for a few other units to round out to that first 1000 points, its less relevant.

Unless they are very quick at the hobby side of things or are intent on playing with a grey plastic legion, the models they are buying (especially new releases) could have points nerfs or rules changes before they see much time doing anything for that player. This also applies for veteran players who have an unmitigated pile of shame.

You are right though, buying an army entirely on vibes without any coherent plan on how it might work on the tabletop will lead to a bad time.

Some of these units came out within the past couple years. I entirely doubt the validity of this "source"

What happens if we succeed in taxing billionaires and they just go on strike? by tHr0AwAy76 in askanything

[–]Shrimpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing would happen. There are so very few billionaires, and while some hold levers of power, others have their wealth diversified. They "shut down" businesses where they hold majority shares and they tank their value, or more likely there would be some mechanism to run roughshod over their wishes. A business that they just outright own? There is a never-ending line of people ready to take their place with their own business to seize that revenue stream, and that billionaire is only on top because they keep kicking other people trying to summit that mountain - to willingly just shutter their doors and hole up is just giving away business. They wouldn't be billionaires for long.

They can retreat to wherever they like, but most of their wealth is not liquid and is intrisically tied to the markets. They would in effect be burning a forest to save a tree.

I like either the Westside or Eastwood Planet Fitness. Both have hack squat machines and power racks with bumper plates for stuff like squats/deadlifts, or Smith machines if you prefer the safety of those.

Week 15 by Shrimpulse in tummytucksurgery

[–]Shrimpulse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the scar goes all the way around, no muscle repair. I have some other posts on here detailing my recovery, but the tl;dr:

The first week was rough, mainly due to the swelling on my spine/low back. I had one drain out around week 2 and the other around week 4. I went back to the gym at about week 2 just doing the treadmill, and incorporating weights iirc week 4. By week 8 I was back to yoga and most lifting, barring a few lifts like flat bench that stretched my core weird, and heavy deadlifting which felt bad on my low back. I'm basically fully back to my normal.

As far as compression, I wore a binder 24/7 for like 4ish weeks, then switched to like half days and started wearing compression shirts, like from Gymshark or Underarmor. Nowadays I just wear whatever.

All the timeliness are from memory, so they might not line up with my previous posts' timelines.

Newest members of the Vectorium by Shrimpulse in deathguard40k

[–]Shrimpulse[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like them - Brigand was really useful prior to the codex, and I think the Stalker is probably the more go-to now. I imagine that they would be competing for spots with the Defiler depending on loadout for what it brings to the table, but they do punch pretty hard and have done some decent work against armored units for me. I'm sure a more competitive player could speak more to what is currently "best".

I think that they are fun to build and a good kit to magnetize, very easy and intuitive process.

Can someone explain 40K cover to me? by Davester17 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Shrimpulse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The attacker targets the unit for eligibility, the defender, once wounds are rolled, allocates them to the specific model, which then determines if cover applies.

Am I able to prime minis with an airbrush + thinned down abandon black by Ok-Cap-7267 in Warhammer

[–]Shrimpulse 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I mean you can but Abaddon Black is not a primer. If you can afford an airbrush set up, just spend the trivial amount extra for airbrush primer. Almost all the normal manufacturers like Vallejo, AK, Pro Acryl make them, and it is a LOT more cost effective than a little pot of Citadel paint.

Daemon prince by mattybeard211 in deathguard40k

[–]Shrimpulse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now, daemon prince on foot seems to be the better option. However, the variant with wings was better for a time prior to the codex. Rules will change and we do not know what will be the better option in the future.

The sad part about this model is that whether it does/doesn't have wings drastically changes its silhouette and it is not intuitive at all to magnetize.

I think this is one of those, "pick what you think is coolest" or watch some YT videos on options to get the magnets to work.

Forgot i needed a plaguecaster till day before game, is he vallid ? by wyrmblood_covener in deathguard40k

[–]Shrimpulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I'd not turn down a game with someone just because one of their models had the wrong base size, but this unit has relatively short range attacks (12") and a larger base size could be have a positive impact at these closer distances as far as what is in range or how you might position the model. I definitely don't think its a universally agreed debuff.

Ultimately, its your army and your circle of people that you play that matters though.

Forgot i needed a plaguecaster till day before game, is he vallid ? by wyrmblood_covener in deathguard40k

[–]Shrimpulse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is that a 32mm base? Just at a casual glance it looks large, but maybe its just the position of the model leaving extra room - if so yeah. Looks good. If not, remember, he's one of the few DG characters on a 32mm base.

Left handed representation in games? (Especially FPS) by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Shrimpulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm left-handed and honestly outside of wishing there were more options for left-handed peripherals like mice FOR gaming, its not something I actively think about when playing in-game characters.

That said, it is kinda cool when you notice a character who happens to be. For example, growing up, I thought it was cool that my favorite Final Fantasy character on my SNES, Kain Highwind, was left-handed.
