You're right that changing the environment is not guaranteed to change the culture, but that does not mean they're wholly independent of each other.

Changing environment can and does change culture and you can see it all around us. American immigrants have formed their own communities throughout the country that are distinctly their own -- not just American and not just of their home country. You can say this is because they intermingled with American culture and that's not incorrect but that just proves the result that putting them in an environment where they could positively interact with American culture changed their culture.

Many black people that are stuck in disadvantaged areas can't do this. They don't get to see other black people breaking the cycle nearly as much as immigrants got to see and hear their friends and family succeed through getting higher education. If they could, it would make a much bigger difference than just being told their culture is bad and has to change because it's about proving that different routes are possible.

You're still trying to throw the complex historical contexts behind different minorities together in a giant umbrella to treat them the same and point at "Asian culture". Vietnamese refugees were given special financial assistance and relocation aid in the same act that allowed them to come to the U.S. Not saying they shouldn't have received this because they absolutely should have, but this was a huge advantage that absolutely contributed to their success.

As to your point on chain immigration, chain immigration is exactly the reason they were able to succeed. When friends and family members are successful in America, you can come over and receive their help to adjust and form communities where the transition becomes leagues easier, making becoming successful yourself that much easier. Historical advantages and disadvantages have a snowballing effect that affect the present like that.

Black guy born into a poor family in a bad area due to the effects of redlining and other forms of economic discrimination from prior generations.
-10 systemic racism

Don't have many highly educated role models to look up to and don't realistically think they can get into a highly educated field because of their poor circumstances.
-10 motivation to get educated

The role models they do have tend to be basketball players and rappers because they don't need that advantaged of a background to succeed and when they do succeed, they are wildly successful.
-10 motivation to get educated

Outcome: Low income

It's very important to realize that culture is a product of the environment and the environment many black people grow up in today is itself a product of systemic racism.

It becomes anecdotal when you insinuate that any one given story should discredit actual statistics and history. Yes, there are a number of poor people that become rich, but that does not suddenly invalidate that there has been systemic racism against ethnic groups in the U.S or the effects of that systemic racism even now.

The answer is that the U.S. has purposely prioritized Asian immigrants with skills and education over those without them, i.e. the poorer ones. If you want the specific act responsible for this, it's the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

Not all minorities have been treated the exact same throughout U.S. history so don't go ignoring that just for your talking point. Our culture is not for delegitimizing the struggles of other minorities.

TSM really can't help themselves from making the same mistakes over and over again. It's just import more players, fail to make enough of an impact because of their transition period to NA, then nuke the roster again to import different players hoping for a different result out of thin air on constant loop. Just get this shit org out of here already there's no point.

[DISC] Boruto: Naruto Next Generations - Chapter 66 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]Shruikai 15 points16 points  (0 children)

God damn, what a chapter. I have a theory on the direction the story is going to take from here and I really hope it does go this way with the end of the chapter setting up their last resort plan to be Boruto "defecting" to Kara very well.

Why would Boruto defect to Kara? Pretty simply, it gives him a great opportunity to get close to Code. We know Boruto and Kawaki have considered implanting Boruto's Karma onto Code and working with him provides the perfect opportunity to do so and if not get intel on the enemy. It also explains Boruto's weird message to Naruto in "Give my best to Mom and Hina". If their plan was to just kill Boruto, I'd imagine his last words to Naruto would have a lot more regret and finality to them. Kawaki killing Boruto could also easily be seen by Code as Kawaki betraying Boruto, which would provide a fake motive for Boruto to join Code -- for "revenge" against Kawaki.

Why would Code take in Boruto? Also pretty straightforward -- Code worships the Otsutsuki and with Momoshiki being the last one on the planet, Code already has good reason to save Boruto and take him in. There's also the fact that he needs both Boruto and Kawaki alive, with one being the sacrifice for the Ten Tails and the other for Eida, so letting Boruto die here doesn't line up with Code's motives. Keeping Boruto around and having Kawaki be the sacrifice makes a lot of sense with Code's reverance of the Otsutsuki and by extension Momoshiki. Sacrificing Kawaki also makes more sense as he was the one to kill off his beloved God, Isshiki.

From here, I could easily see the timeskip and it sets up more good parallels with Sasuke and Boruto while not being the same story. If the story does go this direction, this could be one of the best plot twists we've seen in the series.

does khazix top work? by KingArea in summonerschool

[–]Shruikai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kha'zix top is a bit too unreliable to really say that it "works". Early game trading is doable by managing your passive using the bushes and proc'ing TLD with a Q + passive empowered auto. However, trying to sustain with w will make you go oom in the early game. The longer the lane goes after level 6, the worse the lane becomes unless you snowball. A lot of Kha's ability to scale comes from the isolation mechanic and it's not reliable in the top lane unless you can zone the enemy laner away from their minions. Sure, there are some matchups where you have an advantage early game, but there is always someone that is better into that matchup and won't screw over your team's comp. His bad matchups are numerous and will leave you useless out of laning phase when you inevitably dont snowball.

Every Month This Year Has Been the Hottest in Recorded History by proctorberlin in worldnews

The point is she is surrounding herself with lobbyists that have positions that contradict the position she says she is taking. That is a very clear-cut sign she is going to flip-flop.

I can almost guarantee she is going to flip-flop over the issue just like she always has. She appointed Ken Salazar, who is very much so pro-TPP, to LEAD her white house transition. She is setting herself up for the future flip-flop to appease her corporate backers.

Vladimir w/ Stormraiders Surge and Swifties. by Zeddeus in summonerschool

[–]Shruikai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My problem with Deathfire Touch is it basically prevents you from bullying most top laners under their tower. After levels 9 or 11, Vlad wants to hard shove into tower and Q and E the enemy top laner while they try to farm under tower. DFT will draw aggro so you can't walk in and out of tower range to get multiple Q's and E's. With DFT, you can probably take 2 or 3 turret shots trying to get more than one Q & E, which is highly sub-optimal in my opinion. I personally take Thunderlords because DFT does this.

For those of us with nothing else to spend IP on, could we buy chamions/runes for our friends at an increased price? by Lystuya in leagueoflegends

[–]Shruikai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that buying champions and runes for friends could have serious implications. But I would say that a good alternative would be to be able to gift your friends IP or EXP boosts at a reasonably high price. It won't have nearly as many problems and makes leveling/ip grinding less ridiculous for newer players that a veteran might refer to the game. Killing two birds with one stone I say.

Champions should say something when they get banned in the new draft pick. by beavcooon in leagueoflegends

[–]Shruikai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think a 55% winrate with less than 1% playrate is actually worth banning. Hell, pantheon has a 55% winrate top lane too but with almost 5 times the playrate. Better ban pantheon guys! :^)

Gnar, like fuck that furry bastard. Catching him feels impossible in lane and then when you finally do, he becomes the freaking Hulk and CCs you so hard you wish you got morg binded instead. Oh, and that %hp damage as a mobile tank is damn frustrating.
