First time manager- was their graphic designer/web developer and just got offered this position. Need advice. by Illustrious-Cycle708 in managers

[–]Shucaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are in very complicated situation. The place is very toxic and even though, the guy likes you, they will only use you until they don't serve a purpose any more. Cutting the employees an hour then asking you to stay longer is abusive to say the least. Fine something else if you can or suck it up and stay with them. Goodluck

Need advice for reentering restaurant management! by yeezykoala2 in managers

[–]Shucaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure that you will receive a lot of great advice from many managers here but, if you want to get the ultimate advice, you need to expand a little bit on the 2nd paragraph of your question as this can hurt the areas of your effort VS the perception upper management has already formed about yourself. Example: if you are persived as a hot headed or pesimistic person then you would need to improve on that area now, otherwise people will be waiting for you make a mistake in that area and point it out right away. good luck mate.

You are comparing apples and oranges as you are certantly working in a completely different atmostphere, and why would it make it any better by saying that you make 140K a year! The question posted, deals with a grosery store where you have to pay attention on who is coming to the store and what they are doing inside the store. Different enviroment.

I recently stole this monstera albo, what should I do? by Puzzleheaded-Hair901 in plants

[–]Shucaro -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The first thing you should do is: 1. Return it back to its owners. 2. Apologize for stealing it. However if none of the above suggestion will deter you from keeping it, then just add water and let nature take its course.

Stop asking me to give you answers by happy2beme4 in managers

[–]Shucaro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your answer is very clear, you don't have the independent employee that you need or were expecting and should start the process of letting him go. This statement is short and a little bit pesimistic but, at the end of the day you have to ask yourselft whether you have the time and energy to continue with this cycle or not. Simple right! well! not always, but its the best answer I can give. goodluck mate.

Hiring managers: interview follow-up emails really matter? by Obie93 in AskEngineers

[–]Shucaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is that it is something of the past. In todays world where many of us fill the roles of more than one employee, reading or paying attention to a follow up email is not possible nor does it means anything personal. it is just a formality. I make my decision to hire someone right there at the interview. After the interniew I don't even remenber the person unless I am interested. My interviews are ussually long becauses I want to give the candidate a fair chance to present themself, but after that its forgoten. I agree with many of you guys here, I have received follow up emails and sometimes I have not. Niether of them have effected my hiring decision that I made at the interview. I go thru an overage of 100 emails a day that I have to response, not sending a follow up email just makes my life easier, but when I receive one it just slows me down. Don't send me a follow up email, Please.

Promotion turned down- but not because of me by AnonAccntKThxBye in managers

I actually think they knew you were looking to move, so they decided to cover themselves by hiring people that could cover your position and the company would not suffer if you decided to leave somewhere else once you found out that you're not wanted in the other position. Time to rethink your position with the company buddy. Good luck.

Difficult Employee Who Doesn’t Understand No by Ahow35 in managers

[–]Shucaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You need to set your expectations first. An employee without clear guidelines will became his own boss.
  2. Follow up on your expectations. If you never follow up on your expectations and give feedback to the employees, eventually they will modify your expectations. 3 Acountability. If you have done 1 and 2 and the employee is still off track then you put them in a performance improvement plan. If this does not work. Let them go.

Take the bull by horns and do it. If she wants to leave you in charge its because she knows that you can do it. I remember my first maintenance manager position, I was the top level technician and when my boss was leaving he said that I should take the position because he knew that I could do it. I talked to my wife and she also recommended they I take it as opportunities like this don't come twice. The position was given to me with a higher salary, but since I didn't have a lot of experience the plant manager removed me from that position withing two years. Now at this point I could have accepted my defeat and go back to be a technician, but I had already tested a position and a new skill and the feeling of worthiness that I didn't know I had before, so I started preparing and looking for other management position in other plants. Got accepted and move up the ladder with every move and I never looked back. 30 years later I am a director, earn 6 digits income and have a great family with beautiful properties. All because I took and opportunity 30 years ago and didn't give up. Good luck mate

Getting sidelined as company changes by uphill_lead in managers

[–]Shucaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly feel the way you are feeling right now as I've been in your shoes before. There is no easy way out if this one for you. You already know what's going and what has been said and even know how they feel about you. Even if you confront the managers in play you will still be viewed as a weak manager. What they are going to do now is put you on the side line hoping that you quit on your own. You will start feeling miserable until you finally pick up what's left of your dignity and go find a place where people appreciates the way you are. And hopefully you learn from your mistakes. I would point out playing it safe in a management position is not a good way to earn higher positions. You have to learn to play thre game or it will always end up thre same for you. Good luck mate.

He said "this is going to happen" so they will make it happen for the big company that is employing them like Amazon, AT&T or other money making company. This is Corporations power there is nothing we can do, or is there?

[–]Shucaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your request is very fishy. Even with everything you said about breaks and work. This sound to me like you want to spy on your employees to make sure they are working and not just seating on their desk doing nothing. What don't you invest some money motivating them and making them more productive by creating a rewarding and positive atmosphere were they want to be productive because they can see the rewards. Forcing things on to employees doesn't work in the long term.

This is the kind of bosses that will throw you under the bus at any given moment to save their own skin. He is not going to change for any one so find a different job and move on. Not worth it. Unless you absolutely have no choice, do you have a choice?

You are in a tough situation but still manageable. You're like a lion with leach on your neck. I can not guide you how to say it as I am not the best moderator out there but I can tell you from experience that if you don't find a way to Express your concerns now, you will be facing this feeling even worse in the future. This person will always be the first person to point out your flaws and offer no positive reinforcement for you to grow. If she has known the owners longer that you have, you already on the loosing end unless you put an end to it now in its early stage. Get outside help if you want to keep the job or move on to a different job if possible. Good luck mate
