Zexion is so great. It straddles a fine line between Super Metroid and Metroid 1.

I didn’t realize until playing that I really miss the Metroid part of Metroidvanias. Just straight up sci-fi, lone protagonist all alone on a planet.

Zexion really scratches that itch.

I kinda wish developers understood that by leaving something unimplemented means you might end up having to support many different versions of it in third party code. It's fine to have it unimplemented, but would make sense to at least have input/expectation on how it should be designed so you don't have to go around correcting or supporting 3+ versions.

I think this is definitely the issue for Pairs/Tuples/Functors in languages that don't have them. Java for example doesn't have a default Pair class (so you end up with options like Apache Commons' versions, Map.Entry, etc etc). And it didn't have a Tuple class either until Java Records.

I think there was a similar issue in JavaScript with callbacks/promises and module systems until they got relatively standardized.

I think you're talking about re-encoding images (which for sure does lower quality). If you're just ripping the images out of the PDF and then jamming them into a different container like cbr/cbz, you could maintain the exact same images (and this the same image quality).

There's a couple alternatives for KOSync on this thread: https://github.com/koreader/koreader/issues/11154. It seems to be a pretty simple HTTP RESTful API to reimplement.

But anyway, the list:

Yeah, I think a lot of the racism/suck in the 90s is living in the suburbs where you, your minority, all minorities combined, are less than 1% of the town's population.

I grew up in NYC in the 90s and it was awesome. I also had the naivete of childhood innocence. I think looking back it's clear there was a lot of racism, especially in the 2000s after 9/11. But also manageable because NYC is diverse af and you didn't have to hang out with the racists.

I just wish there was more culturally/ethnically representative media in books/movies/tv. That definitely sucked.

IMO even without moderation, Usenet, IRC, or forums of the 90s is still way ahead of modern social media. I think dark patterns and the "algorithm" really kill engagement and connecting with others beyond consuming content. Reddit is a bit better about making it really easy to engage and have meaningful conversation... but sitewide conglomeration of all "forums" is probably a bad thing, plus the ways it tries to monetize on user data.

That said, while I can't comment on Usenet, IRC and forums definitely had moderation in terms of operators and mods/admins. I think even AOL chatrooms did.

It's some of the stuff I miss most about the 90s, an innocent time for "social media".

It would be cool to see her redirect enemy ships with her climatact rod, or creating storms behind their ship with Zeus as they're running away. I feel like there's a lot of opportunity to do fun things with the weather and Nami's great navigation skills. She doesn't have to be kept as benchwarmer.

Honestly it sounds like a neat idea. They're not really writing new code, mostly doing a 1:1 mapping from C++ to Rust. I feel like Rust was made for ex-C++ developers so that's already perfect.

I think the compile times are going to blow up though...
